vCloud Director 5.5.1 can prepare the host

Hello!
My environment: vCloud Director 5.5.1.1654672

ESXi 5.1.0 1065491

vCenter 5.5.0 1623101

I want to prepare a new host in our vCloud cluster, but I only had errors:

"host cannot be prepaired":

com.vmware.ssdc.util.LMException: com.vmware.ssdc.library.vim.SvcConnectionException:

com.vmware.ssdc.util.LMException: com.vmware.ssdc.library.vim.SvcConnectionException:

com.vmware.ssdc.library.vim.SvcConnectionException:

com.vmware.ssdc.library.vim.SvcConnectionException

all with the error "unable to connect to vcenter Server.

org.apache.http.conn.HttpHostConnectException: connection to https://vcloudserver refused

-Connection to https://vcloudserver refused

-Connection has expired

I checked the dns resolution (all directions, network connectivity (ping, telnet,...), vshield status etc...)

I found the Thread problem preparing hosts , but is not a solution for me.

Anyone have any idea?

THX

I solved my problem - it was a firewall issue.

vCloud Director coud not connect to the esxi host because ports were blocked.

  • Unable to prepare the host to Vcloud Director

    Hi all

Hope you guys can help me. I try to install the track of vcloud Director version, and I got most of this work. The problem I have now is that I cannot prepare a host. I installing the server in a cluster, I have no shared but only storage using local disks (wondering if this isn't the problem). I added my vcenter server, which is a virtual machine on a host, but I'm still unable to activate the host for its use.

I read somewhere on the forums that it must be in maintenance mode, but it does not work. In fact if I do this, the host gets a Red Cross in the available column. On the only host I get an error saying connection refused. The other, they say just can't prepare host.

    Any help would be welcome.

You need to meet the prerequisites first, specifically to have active DRS.  For the active DRS on the Cluster of hosts in vCenter, for the DRS, you need to have more than one ESX host AND the shared storage.

Shared storage is a requirement for vMotion (as the DRS is on your virtual machines for load balancing)

Several hosts is necessary to allow pools of resources (you need a place to load their balance)

Once you meet the requirements, then you should be able to view the ESX host, when you try to prepare them for vCloud Director.

  • vCloud Director 5.1 prepare the hosts with a busy workload

Hi, we have 3 hosts in a cluster of vSphere with vCenter 5.1 4. I'm planing to install the agent on the three hosts vCloud.

My problem is there is now tons of virtual machines running on these 3 guests. If I followed the provider VDC Setup Wizard and simply add the credentials to root for these 3 hosts, it causes any failure to virtual machines running on the host? She will force guests to go into Maintenance Mode and cause the failure? Or vCloud will simply report failure because there are virtual machines running on these hosts?

If vCloud will just report failures, I guess that I will then have the opportunity to prepare each host individually, which allows me to move a load of work to rest 2 hosts?

Here's what I did: I followed the wizard configuration provider VDC and when reach the host preparation stage I put in the wrong password for guests. The preparation of the host has not of course. I then have the options to prepare each host. I think that I was just more careful here. Stage of preparation to host should stop if there is direct VM on the host.

  • Issue of SDRS to vCloud Director after you add the new data store to the Cluster of DTS

    Hi people,

We use vCloud Director 5.5 in a vSphere full 5.5 environment.

We have several DTS Cluster in vSphere and connected to vCloud Director.

    Following problem.

When I add a data store to a Cluster of DTS and connect this to the corresponding storage profile data store, the storage profile is not available to vCloud Director more.

After removing the new store data in the cluster of DTS, the profile becomes available again.

    Any ideas?

    Concerning

    Jean

How did you the storage profile associated with the data store?  via c# client or vSphere web client?

If you did the wrong way (c#) there no storage class label appropriate against it.

A data cluster store has the storage class who would have all preparations of data contained inside.

I think that you should check the service class is associated properly in vSphere web client (before adding to the DS Cluster).  Once it displays correctly, and then add the data store to the cluster.

  • Can't no hierarchy of vCloud Director

    Hi all

I have configure vCenter Chargeback 1.6 (1.6.0.0 - 351155) and vCloud Director 1.01 (1.0.1 - 356485), two of them are the last version that I downloaded from the vmware Web site.

I installed vCloud Director Collector but Chargeback cannot load the vCloud Director organization hierarchies.

Is there anyone, who successfully of Chargeback configuration with vCloud Director?

I have attached the log file of vCloud datacollector.

    Thank you

Can you try a connection in the chargeback database or database vCloud by using a client?

The log shows, connect to the oracle database is not set because of the limited number of connections.

Might help, check out this link--> http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=898395.

    In short:

    Select * from v$ session;
ALTER SYSTEM SET PROCESSES = 500 SCOPE IS SPFILE;.
ALTER SYSTEM SET SESSIONS IS 500 SCOPE = SPFILE;.

This should be, but to be able to connect as sysdba or system, you must restart the listener, only if you are not able to connect.

Make sure you are able to connect to a database using sqlplus or sqldeveloper clients, and then restart the data collector.

  • vCloud Director 5.1 install OS Question

Can I use CentOS instead of Red Hat as the operating system for vCloud Director install?  If yes what the game (if any) would be if I needed VMware support (they even would support me)?

    Thank you for your time.

    Sean

There is nothing prevents you to install it on CentOS.  During the installation you will be told that you are using an unsupported operating system.

All the problems that would arise from the use of CentOS instead of RHEL is not support.  We must do better to ensure that it is not a question of use/code, as well a reasonable given the suspicion that the OS is really at fault.

Strictly speaking, being an employee of VMware, I can't close my eyes go against the recommendations of the platform supported.

However, in more recent versions, I have not personally seen problems directly related to the operating system.  vCloud is a java-based application and is associated with a specific version of Java that is provided by the installer.  If we use even the system version of Java to create the gap.

too long, didn't read = you can, but shouldn't.

    Option 4 there ;-)

    URL for 'VCD Public': https://10.2.10.166/cloud/

    Der VCD-Public-Konsole proxy addresses: 10.2.10.167

Base-URL for VCD Public REST API: https://10.2.10.166/

To explain a little further, the 'HTTP' nic that you have probably configured on eth0 will provide the vCloud Director portal and will also manage the traffic of the API.

The second network adapter will be used for the "Console" Proxy which is the console remotely (VMRC)

    It will be useful.

PS: The other side is a known with each version > 12 Firefox bug it seems. (You need for the moment to open the console full screen so you can see the console.

  • vCloud Director 1.5 device console connection is not displayed

I have deployed vCloud Director 1.5 device in the private network. At is the configuration of the network. I ping the IP of the vCloud Director, I can access the console running on port 5480.

    https://192.168.2.38:5480 / It works.

However, based on the rating guide, I guess to be able to do the initial Setup by access via:

    https://192.168.2.38/

This connection cannot be configured. I have the connection to the device command line console, and run netstat - year, I don't see any process listening on port 443.

    Did I missed?

It's strange, like the vCD device is virtually a plug-and-play operation.  Just deploy it and connect.  A couple of thoughts here...

First, we focus on the IP addresses, you use when you configure the vCD device...  The deployment of the device, it will ask you for two IP addresses for the "network 1" and "network 2". "."  The lesser of these two IP addresses, this is what will be used for your HTTP and the higher numbered IP address will be for the Proxy of the Console.  Your right, however, it will specifically prompt you for one or the other.

Second, if you use the device, you should not run the script configures.  The unit will take care of this for you.  Only, you would run the script configures if you were installing the binary real VCD.

Finally, regarding your inability to you connect...  What it's like, you have the operational services.  You could also check this by using the chkconfig--list command.  From there, I try and divide the question to determine if it is a problem with connectivity, services that run on the device, or maybe even your browser.  To begin with, I would try using a different web browser than what you using your.  Normally, this should not be a problem, but it excludes the case where you have made any browser specific configurations that will be impossible to connect.  Since you know that the process of vCD are rising and running and you can access the host, then I would check to see if maybe that's a problem with just the SSL connectivity.  Once again, it would be strange if you were using the vCD device, but it's just another step to validate, right?  I know how make this the easiest would be to use openssl (which you can get for Windows or Linux).  I would just try a command like:

    #openssl s_client -connect vcd_ip:443

and see if your able to establish an SSL connection with the cell of vCD.  Of course, you can always check the logs too.

Hope some of these ideas help...

  • Map ID between vCloud Director and vCenter Chargeback by API

I currently have a configuration where vCenter Chargeback automatically imports the hierarchies of vCloud Director by a data collector. I find difficulty in mapping a vCloud Director ID entity in a vCenter Chargeback one.

    I'll give a practical example:

I vCloud Director organization ORGNAME and VM VMNAME.

I want to generate a chargeback for the entity VMNAME report. How do I tell me what ID of entity should I spend in the report query if the only information I have comes from the vCloud Director?

    Thank you in advance,

    Marco

    Hi Marco,.

To get the Id of the virtual machine in the entity report request, you have the following option: -.

    • Go step by step to VM, in this approach, you have to call according to API
    1. Get all the hierarchies, GET hierarchies--> this response API, get the id of the hierarchy based on the hierarchy name (name of the hierarchy will be same as the name of the Organization to vCloud Director)
    2. Hierarchy of browse, GET /hierarchy/ {hierarchyId} / browse--> this the API response, you get the id of the entity of the root of the hierarchy
    3. Entity to browse, GET /entity/ /hierarchy/ {hierarchyId} {entityId} / browse--> this response from the API, you will GET the ID of the entity for immediate children of the entity of the root of the hierarchy
    4. Go by calling the entity API browse recursively until you reach your desired VM (or entity).

Please note that travel entity API returns very few details about the entity (name and entity id). If you want to filter your VM (or other entity) based on the name, this might be enough for you.

But if you want to filter your VM (or other entity) on other criteria, you may need to call ' entity Get GET /entity/ /hierarchy/ {hierarchyId} {entityId} "API for more details on the entity.

If you to filter the VM (or other entity) based on the attribute custom, you can use the API ' get the attributes of an entity, GET /hierarchy/ {hierarchyId} /entity/ {entityId} / attribute.

    • If the size of your hierarchy is not great (you don't have too many entities in the hierarchy), you can follow the following approach: -.
    1. Get all the hierarchies, GET hierarchies--> this response API, get the id of the hierarchy based on the hierarchy name (name of the hierarchy will be same as the name of the Organization to vCloud Director)
    2. Get hierarchy, GET /hierarchy/ {hierarchyId}--> this response API returns you all entities in the hierarchy with a single blow. Once again very little detail of the entity is returned (name and entity id), if you want to refine your entity on other criteria rather than by name, then you need to use 'Get entity' or 'Get the attributes of the entity year' as explained above.

Please note that if Director vCloud in vCenter Chargeback hierarchies that are filled automatically, there is a named "vCloudEntityId" located on the rebilling of entities corresponding to entities vCloud Director of custom attributes. The value of the custom attribute "vCloudEntityId" represents the entity type id and the vCloud vCloud Director entity.

For example, if a TIME named "helloVapp" has id 123456 into vCloud Director. Then in vCenter chargeback the value of the custom attribute "vCloudEntityId" will be "VcloudVappEntity-123456"for this "helloVapp" TIME."

    I hope this helps.

  • vCloud Director page does not open.

    Hi all

Today I faced a strange problem in my vcloud Director. all of a sudden all the URLs for org and admin home page of vcloud stopped.

I tried to search in google and find a few KB, but they are not useful. As below.

VMware KB: Access to the URL of the organization fails with the browser error: error 404 not found

I have tried different browsers and restarted my vcloud server but nothing helped. Any help or idea please.

    Thank you

vCloud newspapers are not specific to the problem. I checked and found the watchdog .log and found that the server is not the storage space. in any case, I'd drive and his works fine and went smoothly. .

Thanks for your help. Have a nice day everyone.

    Hi all

I am unable to get vcloud Director console, I configured successfully and the ping command console and http proxy ip addresses. Manager VSheild successfully configured. The certificates are generated. Please let us know what is the problem and what is the solution for this?

I managed to break, I just had to stop the firewall services, I just run the command service iptables stop, everything was fine, I got the console.

  • "Virtual Machine is a store of data not managed by vCloud Director."

The deployment of new virtual machines in vCD 1.5 we see alerts the system on all the deployed virtual machines that say "Virtual Machine is a store of data not managed by vCloud Director.  Virtual machine has mounted the media or the drive to a store of data not managed by vCloud Director.  Ensure that the Virtual Machine has all the drives and the media mounted on a data store managed by vCloud Director".

The virtual machines in the catalogue have been imported from vCenter and have a single drive and no media mounted.  Storage is the same that the new virtual machines are deployed.  Virtual machines of power on the good and seem to be ok, but they are all showing this alert system, with 3 catalog from different sources.

    Indeed, it is the question.

I used SSD on the local disks for VM vswap. I have it configured on Cluster (cluster vswap policy for vSphere) and I got this error message.

I configured the Cluster vswap strategy to use the same directory as the virtual machine, and I use the new "Host Cache" feature of ESXi5 to use my local SSD drives.

    Fixed it.

To deliver you, just configure the policy of vswap cluster where you will store the vswap with virtual machine (on the same storage seen by vCD) or add storage nfs for the vCD and it will fix your problem.

  • VApp on vcloud Director console

    Hello

I have a little problem with vcloud Director.

When I access the console of vapp, a window will appear, but it is completely black...

I tried to access the machine with the vsphere client and it works... but I want to access my computer via the web console.

    You have an idea?

    Thank you

It means something between the IP address of the client/Psoxy, pr cell/ESX is blocked, there is a bad road, or you have a load balancer to do SSL unloading on certificates of proxy requiring passthrough.  nfortuately one of the eanc thos create the connection problem.  You must ensure that all the pieces are in place one by one.  You may need to test each connection separately.  There is further discussion on this topic as well.
