VDI in UCS

Hello

I'll have a brainstorming with some colleagues for a VDI in UCS project, and we were wondering the differences between multiple Xeon 5600 processors (except the difference obvious #cores) applied to a VDI implementation.

For example, there is an important difference between Xeon E5620 and E5640 for such a solution (apart from the difference of 0.2 Ghz of clock that I perceive not so important)? I see one is twice the price compared to the other... that's why I have a lot of doubts in this regard.

All entries will be appreciated.

Thank you

No MTBF, but the fact that it is more difficult for Intel to actually build the chip.

  • Performance comparison on Windows with English and Japanese in Citrix VDI environment

    Hi Experts,

Am performance Testing Citrix VDI scalability for CISCO UCS B 200 M3 break with Windows 7 in English and Japanese.

I have two test bench one in English and the other in Japanese.

For English, I got the max VSI server performance as 112 virtual machines

For Japanese, I had performance max VSI as 124 VMS server.

May I ask why this is happening since both languages are tested in the server with the same configuration.

Japanese OS will occur more English OS? If yes why?

    Please clarify the same.

  • vCenter VDI Licensing questions

    Hello

Basically, my question is if a standard of vCenter license can manage hosts with VDI and Non - VDI workload without violating the EULA.

For a more detailed explanation, please see below:

Thank you very much in advance

    concerning

    Luis

    ----

    Environment:

    -vSphere 4

    -Cisco UCS

Customer has acquired the following licenses:

-1 vCenter server standard (Cisco OEM)

-vSphere Enterprise Plus for 16 cores (Cisco OEM)

also, as VDI will run on the VI client thus acquired a set of 5 view come with:

    -1 Server vCenter for VDI

-See the first 5 Add - on licenses (200)

-vSphere Enterprise more to View 5 (200)

The current implementation has a unique vCenter and 8 blades, divided into two groups:

-6 guests for Admin more application VMs

    -2 VMS VDI host

    Scenario has):

-If we use the vCenter VDI license, according to the "View4LicensingFAQ.PDF" of VMware, support Non - VDI running in a VDI VI is not allowed (see below)

Q: can I run other workloads from server on the vSphere which is included in the view?

A: No. vSphere and vCenter beam view components are limited to desktop deployments.  A desktop virtual machine is defined as a virtual machine that is running the following operating systems:

Windows 95/98, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista business, or Windows Vista business, Windows 7.

The only exception to this rule are the elements that make up the virtualized infrastructure Fund (View Manager, vCenter Server, a Broker for the connections and/or management and tools used for Virtual Machine (s) of Office ESX hosted within an operating system of a server performance monitoring only).  Download the EULA here for details http://www.vmware.com/download/eula/.

    Scenario B):

-If we use the Standard-vCenter vCenter license, according to the "View4LicensingFAQ.PDF" of VMware this is not recommended (see below)

Can Q: you the customer mix vSphere hosts who have licenses from the beams of the view and vSphere license via vSphere la carte?

R: a mixed environment is not recommended because there is risk of workloads server live-migration of a cluster of vSphere (via VMware vMotion™) in a scenario of disaster recovery for a license to view vSphere host, what would constitute a violation of the EULA. Guests are asked to keep their separate environments or buy to the map view to entitle the deployment of a mixed environment vSphere, vCenter, and licenses.

Leaving apart from the facts that:

-View licenses need to be reclassified from vSphere5 in vSphere4

-The client may have bought more than necessary licenses

    My thoughts are:

    • -I have not read anywhere that the use of a Standard-vCenter to cover the VDI and the workload of Non - VDI is not possible at the technical level.
    • -I'm not 100% sure that it is aligned with the EULA
    • -Similar situation for ESXi hosts accommodation VDI VMs licenses

If you use the view bundle vCenter only VDI workloads are allowed.    If you use vCenter who bought outside of the whole of the display, you can run anything you want with it.

  • S30 Config UCS

We received a S30 and somewhere along the line someone apparently had the brilliant idea of raid SSD and a hard disk of 1 TB in a single volume on the blue ports.

So in the boot order that one disc shows as "UCS: Intel Volume_0001" or something similar.

In the Advanced Configuration of UCS, the first two ports show how Intel Volume_0001.

I am assuming that they could not accomplish this in software because they have created the drives C and D, and a hidden partition on this volume.

Question is how did do that, I don't see any RAID quick post to make changes. I turned on all the relevant BIOS including settings disable the quick start, but all messages that appear are too fast to read.

CTRL + I or Ctrl + H seem to have no effect.

    Thank you

Thank you, somehow they corrected, although they have to take it back to the warehouse. Since I don't know what was the exact solution I will mark this as the solution.

  • VDI licensing

Hello, I recently woke up Windows Server R2 VDI host 2012. I have 5 users test currently, they use Windows 7 Enterprise for each workstation.  They are all access to the VDI server within the company at the present time.

With regard to the licenses of the SA, VDA, client access licenses remote can be confusing.

If I buy the VDA licenses for them, the way I read some FAQ I shouldn't away from CAL, is that correct, or I read incorrectly?

This issue is beyond the scope of this site (for consumers) and to be sure, you get the best (and fastest) reply, we have to ask either on Technet (for IT Pro) or MSDN (for developers)

  • Where do we support Skype Lync & VDI...?

I just wonder, it's against the Dell-to-End infrastructure solution...? In my case, Yes, it is. We signed a three-year contract with Dell for our entire infrastructure... Networks, servers, Firewalls, storage, ThinClients & vWorkspace Solution. Also, we are currently negotiating a project of Unified Communication with the software Dell in Dubai and Bahrain. Given that we have just finished the implementation vWorkspace and users started using VDI on vWorkspace heavily, and honestly, they are very happy with the product and its simplicity... At the time where I finished to roll out VDI to the mix of 300 + customers between in queue and Persistent students, professors, staff, etc. etc. The pilot of Lync / Skype for business will start and 98%, Dell will win the project for this implementation.

So I was reading this article https://support.software.dell.com/vworkspace/kb/187157 in relation to Lync and plugin support VDI, I really shocked me and I wonder what this problem may be solved...? Go back to laptops and desktops physical :)

His shame to built a strategy and at the end of the completion, you discover that some items are not better fit.

    Kind regards

    Hussain

    Hello Hussain,

We support the Microsoft Lync 2013 for VDI vWorkspace plugin, but the limitation of it is it doesn't work with Office 365. This is a limitation of the plugin rather than vWorkspace MS.

However, if you run your own server, Lync 2013 then you can use this feature.

  • Error when you try to remove VDIs

We have upgraded to 8.5 vWorkspace last week and I noticed that when we go to remove a VDI, we get the error below

    Anyone else had this... ?

    Hi Dan,.

This issue is usually caused by permissions.

Broker servers must be members of the local Administrators group on the servers HyperV.

They would normally get added in by default in order to verify that you don't have a group policy "Small groups" which is to remove them.

    Thank you, Andrew.

  • ThinShell 2.5.3 does not connect to Windows 8.1 VDI

I'll put up ThinShell 2.5.3 on some older Windows 7 PC. It's on an AD domain using fully patched vWorkspace 8.5 (8.5.308.2004 connector). Try to install ThinShell 2.5.3 results in an error indicating the connector has not been detected on the PC.

I then uninstalled this version and installed the 8.5.308.1991 connector. Then tried to reinstall ThinShell 2.5.3. It has installed.

I have installation ThinShell in Native Mode, set EnableKerberos true and EnableSSO to True. When users open a session on the PC ThinShell launches the VDI. It connects, but then stops on the log on screen for Windows 8.1. Users must again enter their credentials and connect to the VDI. If the user already has a VDI session but is simply disconnected, opening a session on the PC ThinShell records all the way to the desktop.

I also uninstalled the connector and then installed the 8.5.308.2004 (without messing with ThinShell). The results are the same.

    Hello

I think it is because you have enabled EnableKerberos and EnableSSO.  EnableSSO will allow the credentials cached and you don't need this option while EnableKerberos.  Looks like you want to use Kerberos, then please try to set EnableSSO to false.

I would also recommend that you use the configurator... http://en.community.Dell.com/TechCenter/virtualization/vWorkspace/b/vWorkspace-blog/archive/2013/10/17/thinshell-Configurator-2-0

This question is not met at the time of the request

I created a Blog post to allow other servers to 2012r2 2012r2 of remote assistance.

However, it is not possible to use 2012r2 to help a win7 server remotely. It is simply not supported by MS and there is nothing we can do.

If you can create a server 2008r2 to run the Management Console, you will be able to assist distance Win7 VDIs from here.
