VDP VMware data protection

Hello

I think to implement protection VDP 5.1 up to what my company approves more expensive and robust backup.

There are instructions how to make and easy enough to follow, but one thing remains unclear. There are 3 types of 0.5 CT 1 to and 2 TB, which indicates the size of the disk for different flavors. to 0.5 to 1 TB things are clear because I can add in 5 VMFS formatted LUNS and get 2 TB of space but what happens with 2 TB POS. 2 TB VDP will be 3.1 TB of space.

My question is what type of storage I must add to ESXi host to have for example 4 to LUN. What I need to add NFS storage and install the unit on the NFS storage.

My hypothesis is that 5 VMFS datastore maximum size is 2 TB which means that 2 TB POS does not fit into here.

Is there a way to add 4 TB of storage without formatting as store VMFS which be limited to 2 TB. For example, I add 4 TB of storage introduce him to ESXi host and install the device

Maximum size of VMFS datastore is not 2 TB. His 64 to. You can create up to 64 TB LUn and add it as a single data store. So, you can easily create 4 TB LUN and make a data store for your POS.

Can I use VMware Data Protection restore directly to a host ESXi, or do I have to have vCenter Server running? (If the virtual machine, I am trying to restore is vCenter Server itself, then it won't work unless I can restore to a host ESXi directly without using vCenter Server...)

You don't need a vCenter running for the restoration of emergency (directly to the host).

You can also use this direct restore to restore a vCenter to a host. I think this is the main reason that this feature was developed

  • VMware data protection

Is this possible with POS to restore a virtual machine to another store of data as the original data store? So, I use the VM in a test environment?

    Arjan

It is quite possible. While restore uncheck "Restore to the original location" and select the new data store to restore.

    Hi Dennis,

    Answers to your questions:

In the next step, I can click on 'save with device' or I can choose a store of data with max 3 HD is a 1024 bit.

    What is the difference?

With "Store with the device" check box selected. Wizard will deploy discs in the same data store that was chosen for your POS device... If you want to store the discs also uncheck "Save...". "and chose a different stores of data available to the POS device.

Can I use VMWare holder RFP of a Standard license?

Yes its included license more critical and more...

  • Differences between POS and Vmware data recovery

Hi, I wonder if vSphere5.1 has changed the name of recovering data vmware VMware Data Protection (WTP).

I found that the download link illustrates the Vmware data recovery before vSphere5.0 and Vmware data protection after vSphere5.1.

I think the same goes for Vmware recvoery data POS, but I want to confirm here.

VDP is the latest version of the VDR, isn't it?

It is the successor/replacement of VDR rather than a later version. POS is a new application. For more information, see http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/Introduction-to-Data-Protection.pdf

  • Download of understanding 'Download VMware vSphere Data Protection 6.0 - Open Source'

Can someone explain to my what download "VMware vSphere Data Protection 6.0 - Open Source" actually offers?

His text is 'Open Source Code for VMware vSphere Data Protection 6.0' and the OpenSource_VDP_6.0.0.zip ZIP file contains files like commons-validator - 1.4.0 - sources.jar (Apache Commons Validator).

I guess that it may just be a reference of what free software was used for the construction of POS, but what is the practical use for this download all custmers?

    Thanks for me, illuminating Tom

I guess that it may just be a reference of what free software was used for the construction of POS, but what is the practical use for this download all custmers?

VMware, as virtually every software development company, incorporates certain open existing in their own proprietary source code. More open source licenses like the popular GNU General Public License (GPL) legally require you must publish the source code modified with your distribution of binary software (often under the same license).

There is not really much of a practical use for end users, but it may be useful for other developers and software 3rd party development.

  • vSphere Data Protection

    Hello

Review on the vsphere data protection, can take us image backup of windows server by using POS, its more fast or slow as clone

It depends, but the benefits of taking a backup using the VDP is the next backup will be faster than the first, since only changed blocks are copied. And another advantage is that POS dedup backup, in this way it uses less space storage than a clone.

  • vSphere Data Protection 5.8 - report by e-mail

    Hello

Since I've upgraded to vSphere Data Protection 5.8 enamel with the backup report is delivered completely non-formatted, ex:

    vdp_email_report_5.8.jpg

This is how it was on 5.5 and earlier:

    vdp_email_report_5.5.jpg

Anyone with the same problem? Any difficulty?

As far as I can see it depends on the client machine. I don't see the body of the VDP-e-mail on my SmartPhone, but I can see from my Exchange account. So maybe there is a problem on the IOS client.

  • Advanced vSphere Data Protection restore client connection fails

    Dear all,

I have a problem with the Data Protection restore vSphere Client. Including the option advanced. If I use the option of database connection I can get to my saved VM and I can also restore a single file if I want to. If I want to use the advanced option (I don't want to install flash player on each server, thank you vmware!). Whenever I try to log in with my domain account and the account root POS I get the message "failed to connect vCenter username or incorrect password.

I tried both with my domain account (which incidentally is a valid account, I can connect to POS with the vmware client). I know that the root account is good and the password as I can also connect to POS via the menu of the server vcenter5. I am also able to enter the configuration of POS with the root account. I've stopped and started services POS with the root account.

I am at a loss. Someone has an idea?

Credentials change requires a restart of the device and I saw the PW in a config file, so I think it's hardcoded.

If you have changed, may be the cause of your problem.

  • Alternative virtual disks Split VDP of data warehouses

Whwn I used VMWare Data Recovery, I used a NAS data store to store my backups while having the appliance of current backup to run on my main data store that contains all my virtual machines.  Is it possible to do it with POS?  I see that the camera comes already with the backup already created virtual disks.  I thought about removing them from the virtual machine, moving them to another data store and then add them to the virtual machine.  The VDP 2 TB appiance has about 12 virtual disks (not counting the OS disk).  It would be tedious to each virtual disk backup to another data store.  Is there a best procddure to achieve this?  Should I still do it at all?  I'm stepping outside the boundaries of how this device is supposed to work?

I would like some advice in this way.

In this case I would deploy the WTP unit on the main and storage data store then migrate the data (2,3 & 4) to store NAS data disks.

  • Windows 7 Pro x 64 does not detect HP Mobile Data Protection Sensor (accelerometer)

    Hello.

I installed win7pro x 64 yesterday and already fallen on a serious problem, which is how I use the laptop a little dangerous for my valuable data.

When I was working on HP Vista 32 bit (of the partition recovery etc.) brand, it was a device called the HP Mobile Data Protection with HP ProtectSmart software sensor (or protect Smart). In other words, the accelerometer HDD which parks the HARD drive heads when it "feels" it is down or something and the software for it. It has worked flawlessly.

Until I decided to install Win7... And then, surprisingly, after failure of driver install and take a look in the Device Manager, I have noticed that there is no such device. I checked three times, looked at property of each device, even reinstalled Vista 32bits back - he has shown again - and installed Win7 - not detected again. There is nothing that has the HPQ004 device ID! I remember people saying that after that fresh Windows installed, there are 6 unknown devices or more. I got only 5. [Device fingerprinting, 3 x MemCard player and IR receiver]. There is no accelerometer... Also, when I try to install the drivers/software, windows appears:

ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection: with the text Property.AccelerometerNotPresent

and then another saying something like features were not installed due to wrong installation or not supported feature.

So now I'm stuck with a laptop it is dangerous to travel with, because the disk is no longer protected

I have already installed all the drivers available on the HP page, even downloaded those newer Intel (chipset) etc.

Is there a solution to this? Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Windows 7 is officially released and available in RTM version, not beta, so I think that HP should open support in his favor and release new drivers for win7! And above all, to solve this problem...

If anyone is interested, this problem is solved now.

Just download the new drivers from http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en & cc = us & prodTypeId = 321957 & prodSeriesId = 3744188 & swItem = ob-76187-1 & mode = 4 & idx = 2, install and make sure you have the latest version of the BIOS. Tested - heads are being finally parked! Yay!

  • Envy of HP Touch Smart 17: HP Mobile Data Protection sensor missing in Device Manager

I had a HP 3D drive guard error after installing drivers of devices in Device Manager in the control panel.  I looked on Google for answers and they said to find the right driver on the HP website, sp71811, uninstall the old drivers and install a new one for this laptop.  I did this and got an error DLL missing after restarting the machine.  You told me to uninstall again and reinstall and do not forget to restart after uninstalling.  The installation said it was incomplete, that the files were not completely installed.  I got an error message about a missing .dll file (don't have the error code now).  Something about a file stack error.  I went to the Device Manager and uninstalled the driver for the HP mobile data protection thinking can I reinsall that Device Manager but he removed the accelerometer.  Now I can't download HP 3D DG due to missing accelerometer.  How can I retrieve the accelerometer and the original problem with HP DG 3D?

    Hello:

Try the latest version of the 3D driveguard driver...

This package provides the software HP 3D DriveGuard to the notebook models that are running a supported operating system. HP 3D DriveGuard software protects the drive hard by parking the heads if cell phone accidentally falls, or is suddenly struck by another object.
