VDR causing many changes in disk block.

So I have two equallogic SAN is being replicated on a 20 MB WAN link.  During the day, my volumes will create like 3 GB of changes every every 8 hours. I have also setup VDR to make a backup on another volume on the SAN is not replicated.  I see that when done VDR saves my virtual machine, this generates a lot of changes on my volumes that have then been replicated.  What is VDR to my vmdk to make so many changes?  What is normally about 3 GB of changes, VDR will create approximately 17 GB of changes.  I'm guessing something with CBT (change tracking block) generates these big Delta?

Thank you

-Craig

I guess the reason for this is that VDR - as well as other backup solutions - create a snapshot of the VM before doing the backup job and then - once the backup is complete - deletions / consolidates the snapshot.

This means that during the backup, all changes within the guest OS what are written in a snapshot file, which - after the backup - merged for the Basic virtual disk. This double the blocks of data that must be replicated between your storage systems.

  • How can I check to see if my system and components are compatible with VISTA, given that the counsel is no longer available and my office will take too many changes to make it compatible with WIN 7?

    I am running WINDOWS XP on my desktop and would like it ungrade to WINDOWS VISTA, but I don't know if all my devices are compatible with WINDOWS VISTA! I would like to upgrade my desktop computer for WIN 7, but it would take too many changes, so I'm going to update my laptop for WIN 7 and I have another laptop running WIN XP! So basically I want to have at least one of the three operating systems (XP, VISTA and WIN 7) on my different computers! WIN XP on my laptop older, WINDOWS VISTA on my desktop (currently in XP) and WINDOWS 7 on my laptop latest (running VISTA)! I just want to know how to find out if there is a way to see if all my components on my desktop are compatible with WINDOWS VISTA, but the Advisor WINDOWS VISTA is no longer available? I used the WIN 7 Advisor to check what is required for me to upgrade my desktop PC to WIN 7 but there are too many changes that need to be done! I also used the WIN 7 Advisor on my new laptop and it has only a few changes that need to be done and that is why I want to upgrade my laptop to WINDOWS 7 and my desktop for WINDOWS Vista!

  • Change tracking (CTK) block is supported for this virtual machine, but was refused. This will increase the CPU proxy and consumption of IOP.

    I have problems with a client of VMware image-level in an EMC Avamar backup.  So far, we have not been able to find information about this message in the backup log file.  It is originally the backup to take a very long period of time (on average 10-11 hours).

    2014-02-28 14:20:57 avvcbimage < 14681 > Info: change tracking (CTK) block is supported for this virtual machine, but was refused. This will increase the CPU proxy and consumption of IOP.

    We cannot determine why CBT is "denied".  Has anyone here run across this issue before or seen any other type of backup VMware image have denied CBT?

    Everything I checked watch that CBT is successfully activated since the file vmx for the customer to the Avamar config.

    ESXi host is Enterprise Plus 4.1.0 260247

    After spending some time on this issue, the ultimate resolution withdrew the Avamar vm and then add it again.  After that, CBT began to work properly.  It seems that there is a parameter that has been 'stuck' pertaining to this virtual machine that wasn't behaving properly.

  • Removes the table causing a lot of disk reads

    Until recently that we hadn't made many deletions on one of our large tables in the comic book. After a recent project has been implemented, system performance has gone downhill a bit. Research in one of the top offenders through v$ sql, we find this:

    REMOVE IRQ INSPECTION_REQUEST WHERE WORK_ORDER_SEQ =: B1 AND SEQUENCE_ID IN (SELECT SEQUENCE_ID FROM (SELECT SEQUENCE_ID, CHAR_VALUE FROM INSPECTION_REQUEST_CHAR WHERE WORK_ORDER_SEQ =: B1) X WHERE THE CHAR_VALUE IS NULL).

    Here are some stats I see in table v$ sql:

    Performances: 4
    Analyze the calls: 4
    Disk reads: 565457
    Gets the buffer: 634626
    Time CPU: 69280000
    Elapsed time: 290015297

    If I read this correctly 100 000 disk reads are performed on average whenever this statement is executed. The situation that I am is that the table we are trying to remove from has not been analyzed in almost 2 years and many of the indexes on the table have not been analysed in more than a year. Is my problem here something to do with the fact that this analysis has not been done or is there something else, I'm missing?

    We checked the SQL to use the correct index and it is set to perform at its best. We have also tried to run this in our dev environment, and we have the same problem with the slow delete. We even watched the rowid for a row we try to delete and tried to delete by the rowid and the DB is still thousands of readings of the disk to perform this deletion. Our dev table and all the clues have been analyzed recently (last month or almost).

    So maybe it takes away the possibility that the absence of analysis of the tables and indices of production contributing to the issue. At this point, I am at a loss. Here is the statistical information for this table in the production.

    SEQUENCE_ID is the primary key on the table INSPECTION_REQUEST. This only delete statement performs 7 000 disk reads. Is this normal? We have this problem even if it is disable triggers that would fire following this statement.

    To everyone who looks at the thread, the version of db, on that we are is 9.2.0.8.

    If you have verified that all triggers are actually disabled on the table, there are a few potential candidates that could cause this large amount of activity during the removal of a single line:

    * Enabled foreign keys referencing this table
    * Maintenance of Index, your index finger on the table could be degenerate and could benefit from an operation of "merge".
    * Bugs in SAMS if you use a tablespace locally managed with automatic management of the space for indexes

  • I have a ton of cookie exceptions, and sometimes I need to change one of "blocked" to "allow". Is there a way to 'search' to this file?

    Paging through all the exceptions of cookie, to find the one that is causing me not not be able to access a site is becoming impossible. For example, I want to use the ESPN fantasy football site, but at some point, I have decided to 'block' one of the many cookies they wanted to define. Now, I can't get into the site, and I have no chance of finding the offending cookie. Is there a way to search for this file exceptions (or permissions) so I can find the cookie faster?

    It might be easier to use the subject: permissions page?

    In a new tab, type or paste Subject: authorizations in the address bar and press ENTER. Controls showing your default settings will be displayed first and it will take probably several seconds to load the sites. You can use the above the left column search box to find the site you want to adjust.

    Physically?  Sure.  Without removing it from its holster and moving into the computer?  N °

    Buy a new internal drive for the computer - bigger than the current one.  Use the utility it gives with the purchase of most readers of detail (or download from the OEM drive manufacturers Web site) to clone the old smaller disk on the newest disc with much new spaces.  Fact.

    I suggest you do the following:

    Do a house cleaning and the dust of this hard drive:

    You can free up disk space (will also help get rid of the things that you do not use) through the following steps:

    Windows XP should take between 4.5 and 20 GB * with * an Office suite, editing Photo software, alternative Internet browser (s), various Internet plugins and a host of other things installed.

    If you are comfortable with the stability of your system, you can delete the uninstall of patches which has installed Windows XP...

    You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

    When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

    -Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
    -Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
    -Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

    You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

    1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
    2. click on the System Restore tab.
    3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
    4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)
    5. click on OK. Then click OK again.

    You can control the amount of space used may or may not temporary Internet files...

    Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

    -Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    -Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
    -On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
    -Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
    -Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
    -Click OK.
    -Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
    -Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.

    You can use an application that scans your system for the log files and temporary files and use it to get rid of those who:

  • Any attempt to change vmfs size block installation fails

    I found several sources with the same information on changing the size of the block during the installation, but it does not work for me.

    I followed the "reconfigure Installer ESX 4.x and new VMFS volumes with size of specific blocks of formatting", but when I run/bin/weasel after you change the fsset.py I get an error when loading the drivers ' failure of the 20.psa - mask-path of the run script and the installation cannot continue. Just for grins, I made a default installation of the disk and it worked just with the wrong block size, and I can not just delete because it contains esxconsole files.

    I searched the forums and google with no luck, Devil just gooling "20.psa - mask-path" is not even get no results.

    If you create a logical disk / LUN on the array for the ESX install and balance like a logical LUNS for the data store. You will then have the option to set the block size of data store after installation.

    You might consider using for ESX ESXi is not available in vSphere ba 5 and beyond.

    We had implemented the backups for a DB go using tape

    It worked very well.

    Yesterday we had to take a special cold backup for this DB on the disk. By using the FORMAT parameter to point to the location of the disk, I took this backup in NOCATALOG mode IE. using the control as the catalog file.

    Now, when I connected to the catalog for this DB and did a WHOLE SHOW. I see that the backup location is changed on the drive even in the catalog.

    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK BACKUP TYPE TO COMPRESSED BACKUPSET PARALLELISM 1;
    This has happened because of resynchronization. I think so.
    So whenever I take disk based backups by using the control as the catalog file, I connect the real catalog RMAN schema and return to the location of backup using SBT_TAPE

    Run {}
    allocate channels c1 type DISK;

    backup of database format <..>more archivelog format <..>;

    output channel c1;
    }

    That she should not update the Setup value of the channels, rman to the Ribbon in the catalog or the controlfile.

  • HARD does not work after changing the disk partitions recovery media creator

    Hello world

    After installing windoows 8.1 April major upgrade (win 8.1 presents as OEM), and have shrunk C partition to create a data partition "D", "Troubleshooting" option under advanced start menu is no longer available.

    Toshiba Recovery Media Creator does not work, too (it can not find any hard disk recovery partion).
    I got in the OEM recovery partition.
    I am also able to create a recovery using the Windows tool unit.
    You have no idea about it?

    Thank you very much!

    Hello

    Sorry to hear about all this. Unfortunately, you now have a big problem. I don't understand why you didn't create support of recovery before you started to change the factory settings, including to change the structure of the partitions of HARD drive.

    Mobile offered with factory settings a structure specific partitions and recovery recorded image is saved on the partition of drive specific and marked with invisible markers. These markers are visible for preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator tool and when you start the tool can find points of reference and has full access to specific files.

    Unfortunately, after changing the original scores structure Toshiba tool cannot find these markers more and is not able to copy files from recovery media recovery. What you need now is the original recovery disk. Using this disk, you can install original recovery image and after doing this, you will have new factory settings.

    I know it sounds stupid now but you must order the original recovery disk and it can be done on https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

    If you have any other questions you are welcome.

    Hello MrRedPants,

    Since you are using a configuration not redundant you will have problems trying to modify the paths between the controllers since the two hosts have only a single connection to the MD3000.  What you could do if possible is to get 2 more SAS cables & connect ports second on the MD to RAID opposite that the host is currently connected to.

    Now, if this isn't an option so that you can make is to have 2 disk groups and assign the virtual disks / LUNS that are connected to each host in their own disk group.  If you go to each host their own groups of disks, then you will need to stop the e/s as you move the Ramdisk to the new group of disks so that you want to discard any data loss.

    Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • ML6000 changed both disks to LTO5

    Changed two LTO-4 to a single drive LTO-5 drives.  I put the LTO-5 drive into the slot in control (0.2).  It will not come online.  In troubleshooting, I get:

    Resolve the Type of tape drive change
    Troubleshooting steps:

    Remove the original configuration of the partition drive, and then add the new drive to the partition configuration according to steps 1 and 2 below:

    (1) from the main Menu, select
    -> Configuration partitions. In the Setup-> Partitions menu, choose the partition to edit and select 'change '. On the Partition menu edit, deselect the original from the list of readers drive and select 'apply '.
    (2) in the Setup-> Partitions menu, choose the partition to edit and select 'change '. In the menu Partition change, select the new drive in the list of drives and select 'apply '.

    However, the readers the path of control for this partition of accommodation are not selectable and can not be deleted.

    I don't know what would be my next step.

    Hello cbrun,

    You will need to do is Flash the ML6000 firmware. With the ML6000 library, it uses disks serial # to know what players are in the system. Since you changed the drive trying to do an upgrade of the firmware on the drive, he can do the last level of the drive that was previous in the system. Also since you have reduced your number of disks of 2 disks in 1, you need to Flash the firmware to the library until the correct address table element can be corrected. Here is a link to the firmware for your ML6000. http://www.Dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/product/PowerVault-ML6000?driverId=F6K26&osCode=WNET&FILEID=3364832797&LanguageCode=en&CategoryID=Ta

    After that you have flashed the firmware to the library, you will need to go to the library and putting the drive online. Here's how you can do this via the web utility or from the front panel.

    • In the web client, select operations > Drive > change Mode > Online > Apply.
    • In the operator panel, select operations > Change the Drive Mode > Online > Apply.

    Please let us know if you have any other questions.
