Vector mask is Grayed Out?

Hello:                                                                              cs6 windows 7

I read on the vector mask here: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/masking-layers-vector-masks.htmlhttp ://

but I still have trouble getting things to work... I get what I'm still having w / the concept of disorder, but at least I'm not giving up... right?

so I have a BG layer > new layer on which I drew a circle and apply Layer Styles

Then, I would like to apply a vector mask and then duplicate the layer and select the vector mask thumb nails in the double layer so that I can use the pen tool value box shape intersect so that I can draw a shape w / Pen that will create a "Glossy effect.

That's what I try to follow to learn more about the vector mask: http://http :// www.mintyferret.com/photoshop/photoshop-rss-icon-tutorial/1/

This is the section where I'm stuck due to lack of complete instructions and my knowledge/understanding

RSS_Forum.pngSee how the lesson shows a vector mask on a shape layer 1 and layer/duplicate? Well, no matter what I try I can't get a vector mask applied in the same way.

When I go to layer > vector mask it is gray. ??

Since I posted this I read some more articles on how to use/do a vector mask but nothing I've read has worked. Please help me I'm so frustrated

I read on another website w/info on vector mask that if it is grayed out I just need to duplicate the layer but when I do that it is not yet available.

I tried to use a layer mask to nothing does not

what Miss me? How to make the available vector mask?

Your time and your efforts are greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

OK, maybe this video will help you.

I found myself - the layer was a dynamic object. Perhaps I should suggest Adobe to let Photoshop ask pixelation during application, instead of just greyin'out.

  • How to add a vector mask?

    Hello:

I would like to draw a circle with the Ellipse tool, and then add a vector mask

I would like to duplicate the layer and then select the thumbnail of the mask vector in the layers panel so that when I select the pen tool intersect shape areas is available

However, I can't seem to get the vector mask it is always grayed out to be available no matter what I try to do.

I'm trying to add a "glossy" effect to the circle using the pen to draw a shape through it horizontally then upward and around the Summit of and join and closing it so that I can add a white > gradient trans.

can someone help me please? I read the index of help etc until my face is blue and everything I read will not work.

    Thank you for your time.

PS. using Ps cs6 and Windows 7

Any given layer can have a pixel and a photomask vector. When you use one of the form tools, such as the Ellipse tool, you actually create a vector mask on a layer of filling. It was more apparent in earlier versions of Photoshop, but the user interface has been simplified so that the filling and the mask are now an icon in the layers panel. If you cannot add an additional vector mask to this layer, but you can add or subtract to the existing form of vector in the mask to change with the existing tools of vector.

So, do exactly what you trying to do, but do not forget that the single icon see you in the layers panel after creation of the ellipse IS a vector mask, then you don't need to add anything more.

  • Question about the functionality of vector mask

Hello everyone, I'm fairly new to Photoshop CS 5 so I apologize if I'm asking the wrong type of questions, here goes:

When you work with vector masks you can:

    (1) "the link" or a vector mask with the other images? ' sharing ' a picture (for example) if I did 'A Building' then duplicated, but wanted to change what build a looked like, I have to only change the mask of the source, then the copies would be updated.

    (2) move the independent image of the vector mask (it seems that I can only move the vector mask, not the image itself). Or in other words: I can move the image and have the mask to follow, instead of being only able to move the vector mask within the limits of the image?

    My application of the question:

I do a top-down 2D layout of a zone of type "Paste". I did to fill the buildings, building A, B, C, etc. and use multiple copies of each building. Ideally, I would like to be able to 'link' or share say building has a vector mask with all other instances of building A (so that when I change the master, they all change to the new form of mask). The second behavior I have trying to find is the ability to move without moving layer where the vector mask is on this layer (since it seems that you can only move where the mask is, which means that even if I could share masks, they all finish by in the same sense of place I have to re - position each hand again.)

Any ideas are appreciated, thank you for reading.

Yes, it's possible, but not with the classic system layer vector mask in Photoshop. Layer masks are part of a layer and not the layers themselves, so that they can be converted into a reusable object.

The solution is to avoid vector layer masks and use a clipping/layer instead mask. A clipping/layer mask CAN be converted into a smart object that is reusable, and when you change one, all the other instances are also changing.

The second part of the solution is to convert the layers contained both the clipping/layer to a smart object mask. Then the batch group. By the way, if your buildings are made up of several elements simply to include these additional elements in the clipping group. Another advantage is that each of the elements may still have its own normal layer mask. Win win situation. And layer effects can be applied to layers/clipping masks, once again what is impossible for layer masks. It also opens the doors to a much less destructive workflow.

    (2) move the independent image of the vector mask (it seems that I can only move the vector mask, not the image itself). Or in other words: I can move the image and have the mask to follow, instead of being only able to move the vector mask within the limits of the image?

This is also solved with the use of layers/clipping masks - the content and the mask can be moved independently in regular layers. Another advantage is that the two can also be transformed individually.

Any ideas are appreciated, thank you for reading.

So here's my solution. I made a sample with two buildings, the view from above which could be reused as desired:

    (1) first of all create groups for each building and place the content to those. Then trace layer vector shapes on the content. Set the transparency for layers of mask to a reasonable of opacity for masking easier.

    (2) put the vector shape under the layer of content for each building. Then, for (1) and (2), , click on the border between the content and the shape layer. (

    (3) then we will turn this building into recyclable items. Convert each content and layer to a smart object clipping mask. Then rename these layers of dynamic object into something sensible (honestly, I forgot to label the layers well earlier, but you catch my meaning here ;-)

Fact! To clone each building, duplicate layer groups. For each instance that you can move the content (which is handy if you share multiple charts of building in the same bitmap or illustrator file), or you can decide to move the mask in place. Or both. It is the same for the transformation. Your choice. To move or transform a building, select the layer group.

To change or modify the masks or the contents, double-click the smart object of your choice and make a few changes.

Also, remember that you can insert additional elements in a clipping group by placing it over the first layer and then clipped by clicking again on the border between them. So, in theory, you could start building different looking buildings by adding other dynamic objects in clipping groups. The sky is the limit! In this way, you can create several building blocks to build various buildings with different looks. And still limit the number of blocks - and any update-able.

Unfortunately, that's when the workflow breaks down a bit: due to the implementation of the object dynamic in Photoshop, you can't change the mask or the contents of the building in context - instead, it opens in its own window of file. This can be somewhat mitigated by placing the two windows side by side (window-> fix--> double vertical installation).

This brings us to the second caveat: when you make a change, the changes are not updated in real time in the master document. You must first save it. Still a bit of a flow of work, but when same breaker... At least you now have a workflow not destructive instantiated.

The content of the dynamic object can be replaced easily with a right-click of the mouse on the smart object layer itself. Or use a dynamic object referenced externally instead if you prefer to generate your buildings in an external application.

BTW, the layer of Photoline system is much more logical and easier to use for this type of work. Layer masks behave like regular diapers. Layers, groups, masks, layers of external file and so forth can be practically cloned and instantiated as smart objects, but the main object is editable in the context, and all the other instances updated in real time. So, it is more convenient. At least this is my experience.

I hope this has been helpful! Now go build your cities. :-)

PS: I thought: isn't Illustrator or InDesign is a much more logical choice for this type of work where you need access to reusable blocks of content? It would also be a more efficient workflow and faster - Photoshop is not really designed for this type of work. Illustrator and InDesign provide potentially out of better quality. You can also divide your work into the pages and so on. Here again, you would probably lose the flexibility of smart objects.

  • Change the path inside and outside areas in the vector mask

Hey all lovers of the PS/CS,.

This is probably an easy, yet, being pretty new to this, I have to ask.

I have so this vector mask on a layer, and singing along to the Beatles I'm changing tracks on this subject. Well, what it is is a rectangle to crop a photo, nothing crazy. This rectangle is too big for my taste - so I just draw another, smaller on the inside and plan on deleting one.

But! The second, smaller rectangle is considered to be a delicacy to take away the first (so its interior is considered to be 'black' mask-wise, that is cut out, and its outer part is 'white', which is kept in). Thus, when you remove that first, largest, the entire image will appear, except for the part that I want in the Middle, which is cut! Yes - it's the opposite of what I want.

Now, I tried to use the path selection tool and change the fill color of the rectangle, but you can not... So, how you reverse both inside and outside of a closed path? Thanks in advance!

    Charles

So, how you reverse both inside and outside of a closed path?

Select the path with the tool Selection of track and in the Options bar change the path of the operations.

  • Create vector masks (with the pen tool)

Today, instead of make a mask out of the content inside the tool path pen, he made a mask of the content in reverse. In other words, what I don't want. I don't know what I did to the Photoshop of anger, I haven't changed any settings (as I know). How can I fix it?

I've tried hard restart my iPhone (Home + Power button) without success. Any help is very appreciated! Thank you.

    Hey there, Stephen Bond,.

Thank you for using communities of support from Apple! I see from your post that your iPhone more 6s on iOS 10.0.2 does not work as expected because the cancellation of noise from phone toggle is grayed out. I'll be happy to help you.

First check to see if the hearing aid Mode is enabled in settings > general > accessibility > hearing aids. If this option is enabled, then telephone noise cancelling will be grayed out as you describe. If this isn't the case and that the option is grayed out, please continue.

  • Notes 'float on top' is always grayed out.

    Hello

I used to be able to put a note on a separate window and then "float on top. However, since updating to OS X El Capitan 10.11.6, it has always been grayed out. Even on the full notes window, I can't make it float on top.

Is this a bug? Is it just my macbook? Or is there a way I can get 'float' on top working again?

    Thank you.

    Patricia.

    Hi patsoup!

I understand that you have a question about the feature 'float on top' of the Notes app, and I'm happy to help you. How the works seems to have changed.  Now, rather than tearing off a note to display it in a separate window, you can double-click the note entry in the list to the left of the application Notes. Once a note in its own separate window, the menu item 'Float on top' becomes accessible.

I downloaded yesterday sierra of mac os.  However, I asked Siri what the weather conditions were in my position. She said that to go into the settings under Security and confidentiality and allow my place.  I did, but I'm not able to check the enable places.  It is grayed out.  Does anyone else have this problem.

    Hello dogsandcats,
Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

I understand your message that you are not able to activate location Services within the parameters of security and privacy on your Mac. I know how it is important for you to be able to turn on location Services. When you go to System Preferences, then Security & Privacy, make sure you click on the padlock at the bottom left and type your admin password. Then you should be able to turn on location Services.

On location in OS X and Safari Services

    Activation of location Services

Follow these steps to turn on location services in Mountain Lion OS X or later

    1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu.
    2. Click the Privacy & Security icon in the System Preferences window.
    3. Click the Privacy tab.
    4. If the icon of padlock in the lower left corner is locked (), click on it and enter an admin name and password to unlock ().
    5. Select location Services.
    6. Check the box "enable location services".

    Best regards.

  • Headphone issues and options grayed out reading preferences

The basic problem is that when I play music via iTunes, if I plug my headphones, it covers only playback through the computer speakers, not headphones.
If I closed iTunes, plug in the earphones, THEN restart iTunes and play music, it will come through the headphones, but if I unplug, it is paused and not restart, even if I plug the headphones insert it again.
Although I can change speakers headphones by stopping iTunes and restarting, I'm often trailing long playlists, it is not practical to do so.
Other advice, it seems that I have to change the "audio playback" setting using "Session of Windows Audio' 'Direct Sound', or something similar, HOWEVER, when I go in Edition > Preferences > reading, the box is grayed out, and I can't change it.
