Virtual maching has affinities CPU or memory configured, preventing VMotion

I tried to manually migrate a virtual machine from one ESX to another ESX. They are on the shared storage, 3.5 with update 2, same type of server with the same type of processor. But when I migrate the virtual machine, it is said that virtual Maching memory and CPU affinity configured, preventing them from VMotion.

I checked the CPU affinities, under Advanced CPU, there is no affinity, hyperthreading is disabled.

Where else can I check? all entries? Thank you...

  • Settings of CPU and memory of reserve on the virtual machine running...

    Hello.

I have two virtual machines in production with CPU and memory settings of reservation applied as shown below. I want to adjust these settings of reservation to "zero" for the CPU and memory on both virtual machines.

I can make these adjustments while VMS are running, or do I need to power their first?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Welcome to the community,

Booking of resources being completely transparent for the customer, i.e. a host function, there is no need to turn off the virtual machines. Basically all settings in are available to be changed in the editable GUI generally without interruption of service comments.

  • How to check if a virtual machine has active hotplug?

    Hello

I am trying to create a workflow that is supposed to change the amount of vCPUs and memory on a virtual computer.

(for those who arrive suspicious: I'm continuing / edition work of Munel, another user here)

Since we have different types of VMS, I need to check if a virtual machine is capable of hotplugging processors and memory.

Now the workflow is designed in a way, it first tries to change the values, and if it runs into an error, it checks if the error code says that the vhardware is not active hotplug then stop the virtual machine or throws an exception.

This is not a very nice solution and must be changed.

Is there a way to check the ability before hotplug actually trying to change the vhardware?

    Thanks in advance

    Andreas

    Hi Andreas,

To check if a virtual machine has a hot connection activated, you have the following options:

Check if memory hot add is enabled:

    virtual_machine_instance.config.memoryHotAddEnabled

Check if the CPU hot add is enabled

    virtual_machine_instance.config.cpuHotAddEnabled

Check if the hot removal of CPU is enabled

    virtual_machine_instance.config.cpuHotRemoveEnabled

If you have the vSphere client, tree options above are located in the Configuration dialog box of the virtual machine on the tab Options-> memory/CPU hotplug.

    Hope this helps,

    Martin

  • -Plug hot CPU and memory

    Hello.

I'll try the new features of vSphere and have a double with the addition of a CPU or memory to a virtual machine while it is running.

First of all, Microsoft said that only the data center itanium editions and supports the addition of hot CPU, but I found some forums who say they did the test with other editions as standard or enterprice, is this posible?

    http://www.Microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/R2-compare-specs.aspx

    http://www.Microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/evaluation/features/comparefeatures.mspx

I tried with a windows server 2008 standard x 64 and when I added a CPU Device Manager shows me 2 CPUs, but the Task Manager doesn't show one and when I added to that memory, the Task Manager shows no change, but Device Manager shows the new memory module with an alert.

When I restart the virtual machine to the new hardware configuration worked well.

If windows does not support hot branch of CPU and memory in the data center and itanium editions, why is the option available (when we edit a virtual machine) for other editions as standard?

    Thank you...

Here is a good list which has been implemented and seems to be fairly well validated.  But the result is, it has windows and a restart could never hurt.

  • Window Media Player.exe using 100% of CPU and memory

I have a Pavilion dv4-2145-dx Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, 4 GB of memory. Windows Media Player.exe supports my CPU 100% usage and it is striking all my memory - 4 GB.   It started right after I set up a homegroup.

I had to go into Admin/service and change the Startup Type to disabled for:

    • Windows Media Center Receiver Service
    • The window media services planning service
    • Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service

I tried setting services to manual, but Windows Media Player has yet caught all the CPU and memory, he could then I disabled all the.

I do not know how to disable homegroup and Windows Media Player services work together so I wonder if everything is always operate has designed with the homegroup and sharing my music.

    Hello

I think this explains the problem.  The 2 entries here should be deleted, because the first will try to index all of your user profile and the second will attempt to index all of the Windows Partition.

    C:\Users\Rick

    C:\

To remove them, click to the left of the entrance, highlight it, and then click Remove.  When these two entries have been removed, reboot the laptop and you should find that the problem has been resolved.

According to the Toshiba product page (you can find it using google ;)), the laptop was equipped with 2 bars of memory; a 2 GB and the second 1 GB module.

I can't currently developing a report/view that can show me what I'm looking for.  I thought since it's related capabilities vROPs can keep track.  Is there a way to see the when a virtual machine has changed and what has changed?  Looking mainly vdisk, vCPU or vRAM.

    Thanks for help or suggestions.

    Hi newbski1,

There are few things you can try to help him with this.

    1. the events view shows you changes in resources, it is not terribly detailed, but it will help

    2. depending on your version, you can also view in Configuration Manager that is part of the vRO suite that will show you the changes to configurations.

    See you soon

  • Free version of 5.5 (CPU and memory limits)

    Hello

Is there a limit CPU and memory if I run the free version of 5.5?  I remember that there is a limitation of a socket (CPU), but am not sure, maybe it was the old version.

    Thanks in advance.

    TT

If I'm mistaken, the only limitation with the free 5.5 ESXi hypervisor is the 8 vCPU maximum of VMS and the restrictions for hardware virtual version 9 (5.1 compatibility) with the vSphere Client. Previous versions had all kinds of different limitations, like carrots by socket, physical memory,..., but that all left with the current version.

  • Memory configured

    Hello

A virtual machine allows more memory than its configured memory?

    For example:

ESXi host is to have 10 GB of memory. 2 VM are hosted on this. Dv01 & VM02 configured memory is 2 GB.

    (1) if the Application is running inside the virtual machine requires more memory, then Will VM would be able to use memory configured 2 GB of memory conc as host is to have additional 6 GB of memory?

    Hello

When you say 'configured memory', I guess you are trying to say that it is the memory that you have assigned as you created the virtual machine.

In this case, not your virtual machine cannot be used more than it is configured with. you increase the memory.

Please see below the link and image captured from pubs of vmware.

    http://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-4-ESX-vCenter/index.jsp?topic=/com.VMware.vSphere.vmadmin.doc_41/vsp_vm_guide/configuring_virtual_machines/c_vm_hardware_options_resources_available_to_vm.html

    Hope that helps.

  • Crescent of cpu and memory under windows 2003

    Hello

I have a windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 virtual machine with 1 cpu and 4 GB of memory.

    Can I increase cpu 1 to 4

In the past, I've increased cpu 2 to 4 on similar without any problem, but not sure machines ranging from 1 to 4 cpu

    In the past, take action:

    Turn off the virtual machine

    Take snpshot

increase the number of cpu 2 to 4

increase of 2 to 4 GB memory

    Start the virtual machine

Check Device Manager to make sure that the additional processors are visible

Check the additional memory is visible

    Remove the snapshot

Instant return if the process fails

    Hello

I did this operation, hundreds of times, no problems at all. Problem may occur when you reduce several CPU single-processor. Going from simple to several CPU no problem at all. Of course good to have a clone\snapsot of virtual machine before you make any change :-)

  • Virtual machine has 8 virtual processors, but the host only supports 4... ?

    Hello

My setup is a VSphere cluster with 4 guests each with:

E5450 3.00 Ghz Dual Xeon Quad & 32 GB of Ram.

I run a number of virtual machines, mainly Windows 2003 Server Enterprise. Most of them is running on 2 or 4 virtual processors.

I tried to create a new virtual machine with virtual cpu 6 or 8 and 16 GB of ram. When I tried to turn on the virtual machine, I got the message below:

Virtual machine has 8 virtual processors, but the host supports only 4. The number of virtual processors can be limited by the OS, etc...

Now, I checked my licenses and they are for each host that I have:

Company of VSphere 4. 1-6 cores per processor. 2 cpu by assigned host.

Thus, it cannot be a problem with the license...

    Any ideas?

Hello and welcome to the forums.

The Enterprise Plus edition is required for vSMP 8 channels.  You can check in the vSphere editions comparison.  The Enterprise edition will be limited to 4 vCPUs.

The 6 cores per processor refers to the ESX host itself and directly relate to the SMP virtual machine.

    Good luck!

  • PowerEdge R710 E2011 memory configuration error

I have a question that has me running around in circles.

I'm the filling of a PE R710 server with 1 GB 1Rx8 PC3 - 10600E DIMMs, which works very well when the first two DIMM slots are filled for each channel. However, when I fill the third slot DIMM in any channel, I get the E2011 Memory Configuration error.

I've already updated the system board BIOS to version 6.4 and still get this error.

Can anyone out there tell me how to fix this?

    Thank you!

    Pripley,

Based on what you say, it seems that the question you are running in is due to the DIMM you are populating the server, that sound as if they are UDIMM. With UDIMM, as well as Quad DIMMS, you are limited to 2 DIMMs per channel. At the bottom of page 129 of the present manual, you see this limitation.

Let me know if that answers your question about the memory problem, or if you have Rdimms and see this.

My Mac has 4 slots for memory, 2 slots hold 4 GB each.  Can I add a 8 GB memory in each of the empty slots?  I can add memory higher in the empty slots or what I need to keep all memory equals 4 slots 4 GB each?

It depends on what iMac you have. Some older models may not recognize 8 GB of memory chips.
