VirtualBox vs. Parallels

Has anyone used VirtualBox from Oracle. I would like to know how VirtualBox compares to Parallels? I have the software for my business that requires Windows and the first recommendation is Virtual Box.

Considerably slower, fewer options, less integration with OS X and OK for simple and fast. Parallels is certainly the King of emulation Windows to Mac software.

  • MacMini PowerPC Aaps HD partition

I have a macmini 2014 10.11 running. I have an old PowerPC photoshop program and my current computer will not support it.

I think create a partition of hard drive with 10.3 (which is what I have some old records, no doubt, can be upgraded online) and it works from there.

I have a 500 GB hard drive about 50% full.

Anyone know if it will work? And I'll be able to share files between operating systems in a box or something?

    Thank you!

The only way to do it on your model of Mac is running Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6 Server within a product such as VirtualBox or Parallels Desktop.

  • Should I buy a Macbook Pro now or wait?

    Well Hello

Although not a technical support question, I just wanted to ask the community on my decision to come. Quick note, I work in it and have already decided on the Macbook Pro because of the needs of its use and don't need no recommendation based on form, thank you!

So, I put aside enough money to buy the Macbook Pro I've wanted for awhile now, I need a smaller but still powerful computer. Currently I have a 17 ""notebook"made for the game and it's a monstrosity away truly mobile heavy." This is beyond powerful with 32 GB of RAM, an i & - 4870HQ, one of the fastest SSD m2 on this side of the industry and it rips a GTX 980 M with 4 GB of video memory dedicated. What I'm basically is that I really don't need another PC, I need something that is both powerful and lightweight and I can't comfortable wear everywhere where I need to.

The next factor is the fact that I'll be moving to Indonesia in October. I need a cell phone smaller, lighter for the work that I can run a virtual machine with Windows to on it for work, whether through VirtualBox or Parallels. Believe it or not, concurrent computer virtual running independent of the OS can be very demanding! Also Apple products are a status symbol there. However, rumors, which I know that no one can confirm officially, pointing to a late summer or early fall release of the new Macbook Pro, but since WWDC is around the corner I think I'll wait and see if Apple chooses to surprise us. After that WWDC is when I will make my final decision, and that the decision is whether I should buy a Macbook Pro now or wait until the new is revealed. I love the promotion they have going now where you the beats certainly of high quality solo2 helmet and education, discount that I can use since I started back to school to get an MBA.

Yes, sorry to be long-winded and irrelevant, once or twice but I really appreciate all the comments. I expect many many time to make this purchase. I used to dislike apple products until I realized how beautifully, they are built and the high quality of the materials and the intuitive user interface. Already, I have an iPhone 6, an Apple Watch, an iPad Pro with the pencil of the Apple and the keyboard, and even this types on a keyboard of magic. I can't replace my PC awesome game, but I need something not quite as powerful, but a lot more portable.

TL; DR: Should I wait until the new Macbook Pro is out or take advantage of the current promotion and get a current model, and yes I am aware that the current model is more than a year.

Yes, thoughts? And thank you for your time!

You are the only person who can answer this question. All I can tell you is that I have a MBP 2014 and it's always great. I think you'll be happy no matter which you get.

  • With the help of a Snow Leopard bootable or hard disk drive

When I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Snow Leopard to El Capitan, I have also created a disk external drive bootable that would go SL. There are a few applications would not run on the CBS.

I just bought a new MBP (mid-2012). But it does not start from my SL, nor even the installation of SL DVD drive.

Is there a way to get around this?

    Thank you.

Only by converting in Mac OS X Server and running it inside a product such as VirtualBox or Parallels Desktop. If you do not have a Mac OS X Server 10.6 DVD, phone online Apple Store and order a.

  • Cannot start the disk operating system external hard

Hi I just bought a macbook air 13 mid-2013, and has decided to clone the hard disk of my old white macbook mid-2006 for an external hard drive, I cloned it perfectly with superduper!, the problem is when I try to start the external hard drive in the macbook air, it comes to show me the white apple logo and stay there and do nothing , I tried everything, safeboot, run disk utility, reset pram, but nothing works, finally decided to start in the old white macbook and it starts perfectly, also tried in the macbook pro 13 of the of my brother and it starts perfectly too, just to clarify, my macbook air have yosemite 10.10.5 os and my old white macbook and cloned hdd have os 10.6.8 my brother macbook pro os 10.7 , I don't know what to do, thinking the cloned hdd os is too old for the macbook air, but do not know I hope you can help me, thanks!

    R.

Mac OS X 10.6.8 is too old to start your MacBook Air. Outside the upgrade the operating system installed, or conversion to Mac OS X Server and running it inside a product such as VirtualBox or Parallels Desktop, you can not.

  • How can I extract and use the driver "exe" to communicate and to load an Excel "cvs" in my Amateur Radio transceiver?

I use a Mac Mini OS 10.11.3 (El Capitan) processor 2.5 GHz intel Core i5.  With 16 GB of ram at 1600 MHz kDDR3.  I down loaded the program I need and you used my (Mac) excellent program to load the cvs program sheet.  However, the driver is contained in a 'exe' format and I can't or can extract my Mac to use this program.  This driver is required to enable communication between my Mac and radio transceiver.   The only option I see is to acquire a computer laptop windows to allow the use of this application unless there is a program bootable can I mix on an external hard drive and then use Bootcamp?  Help please.

Try using CrossOver Mac, or install Windows in Boot Camp or an emulator such as VirtualBox or Parallels Desktop.

  • Running Mac OS older than what came with the Mac

I just got the phone with Apple's Support and the representative told me that no Mac will perform a Mac OS older than the one that came with it. Can someone verify or refute this claim? I've been using Macs since I was introduced to a warm SE/30 in 1989, but I never remember to do this.

So why would I want to? Well, I just bought an iMac 2014 end provided with Yosemite (10.10), to replace an early 2011 MacBook Pro that came with Snow Leopard (10.6). I am a photographer, and I have three dear old Sony sublimation photo printers that I can run only with a software package that has turned into a pumpkin after 10.6, so I have the updated MBP in place like a machine to dual-boot with a small partition of 10.6 for the software and a large partition of El Capitan (10.11) for most of my work. I want to put in place my new iMac in the same way (of course, the upgrade of its large partition to El Capitan); Otherwise, I will need to keep the MBP as a print server. (Or more likely, press an old iMac 2006 with a screen of bad back in service as a headless print server).

If it is impossible to start in an old Mac OS, are there emulators that could achieve this goal (which might be better - avoiding a reboot)? Sony has been much better update their printer drivers for Windows and Mac, so I could probably run in Windows under an emulator like Parallels or Bootcamp, but I try to avoid dealing with a completely different environment. (Not to mention the fact that two of my Sonys are SCSI machines I drive with FireWire 400/SCSI converter; not to tell how Windows would treat that ;-))  Of course, this alone probably favour the approach of print server, because I do not know how things do you wear with a double conversion (starting with the new iMac USB3 or Thunderbolt and passing by FireWire SCSI. It's all too complicated...

In a related issue, if I am successful in 10.6 market in some way on a new Mac, could I also run Rosetta? Snow Leopard is the last Mac OS supported under Rosetta PowerPC applications, and I have a still-good condition, fully licensed Adobe Creative Suite Premium (PowerPC) that I want to continue to run and make so much faster that this old iMac (or even my MBP) will be.

    TIA,

    Ken

    1. use Mac OS X Server 10.6 (phone the Apple Online Store) inside a product such as VirtualBox or Parallels Desktop.

    2. Yes.

  • El Capitan USB question

    Hello Apple,

Since the upgrade to 10.11 'el Capitan' several of my USB devices does not work properly, which up to now worked perfectly. To name only a few, these include the eBook reader Sony PRS - T3, AVR, ST-Link2 programmer, FT232 programmer (sometimes). In addition, VirtualBox and Parallels, which I use frequently, have questions calling for USB devices. Apparently I'm by far not the only one, as revealed by a quick search on the internet, for example

Common to all these pages share the conclusion that the issue was introduced by Apple with 10.11 and that until this Apple support could not answer - at least in a useful way. And the advice to wait for the driver updates is not always an option for me the two for reasons of time or because support for example, PRS - T3 has been abandoned altogether.

To sum up: there are a lot of people and equipment who have a problem of USB introduced El Capitan. The problem persists for some time now and there is no support by Apple, or at least a statement how they intend to solve. This is the shit!

I'm a Mac user since the days of--oh, I don't know even the name of the model! And above all, I was very satisfied. But I must say that lately I wonder if that faithfulness is well spent. For me (and others) crucial things that worked perfectly before now fail and apparently Apple cares.

    Think again, Apple...

    A dissatisfied customer

I have the same problem with USB: I have a cam action by Garmin, which had functioned normally before the El Capitan 10.11. No it was not acknowledged more. Using the DMESG command in the terminal, when the cam is connected to the USB port, I get this feedback:

002223.783219 HS01@14100000: AppleUSB20XHCIPort::resetAndCreateDevice: unable to create the device, disabling port

It really a mess and I don't understand WHY Apple has not solved this problem despite of El Capitan 10.11.03 was last updated. I really get off at Yosemite. But really I couldn't think that apple were so unprofessional!

  • trying to emulate another video card in my virtual machine

    Hi all

I was wondering if anyone out there has a substitution method of the video card on the virtual machine - vmware svga2 currently it emulates.  I would like to install a software that is not compatible with the vmware curret svga2.  any thoughts?

    Thank you

    Forget it
your options are VMware SVGA2 without the 3d support and VMware SVGA2 with 3d support - that's all

If your software does not you can try only other machines virtual software such as VirtualBox or Parallels

Parallels has a version that can use a videocard uptodate more on some machines, but all in all machines virtual video is old stuff compared to any recent real hardware

  • We will soon see Desktop Integration? (ala Parallels and VirtualBox)

    Greetings,

I like VMWare and program and test software using virtual machines throughout the day. I was wondering if the integration of office is on the horizon in the range of products VMWare Desktop (Workstation or Player)?

To clarify, I'm talking about the feature in Parallels and Virtual Box from Sun where the virtual desktop is superimposed on the desktop of the host operating system so that open applications appear almost native to the host operating system. I tried in Virtual Box, and it looked really cool, until the guest OS frozen three times (the Sun has a way to go!)

    Thank you

    Scott

    Hello

Welcome to the VMware community forums.

Who has called for unity and is since then in VMware workstation version 6.5

He's here for at least a year or two.

In order to use it, select the option to 'Unity' instead of full screen or windowed mode.

    Hope this helps,
