VirtualCenter Server DBs on remote SQL Server

Guys,

I use VirtualCenter Server with a remote server of SQL2005 DB.  I initially set up with a domain account as the owner of the db and everything was pretty much ok, except that my VirtualCenter management Services continues to stop.  I was told that the best practice is to use local sql accounts and authentication as opposed to domain accounts.  I created connections local SQL, makes them owners of DB and then recreated the system DSN names on my server of VC.  I changed the log on credentials for the VC and VC management Web services for my domain account for the Local System account.  Now when I start the service I get the "Virtualcenter Server service stopped with the error service special 2 (0x2).»  I have cheked other messages and I made sure the Vmware converter service does not work.  IIS in is not installed on this server.  I saw the messages about failure fo the local system account to log on to a remote sql server.

So my question is:

If the VCDB abd UMDBs are on another SQL Server on the VC server do you need authentication based on the domain or local sql?  What references do service accounts must be defined on the VC Server?

Thank you

If VC and SQL reside on a single box, a domain account is recommended. If SQL is remote, it is recommended the SQL authentication, see Installation and Configuration Guide. This has always worked for me.

As mentioned previously, VC must be installed with local administrator or service account (member of local administrators) and retain the same all along of...

Thank you

Please give points, so useful

Do need me a separate license for VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat for a remote SQL Server database?

Only a single vCenter Server Heartbeat license is necessary to protect the components of the vCenter Server installed remotely, including SQL Server. A single license is also used for several UNIQUE for vCenter Server services protected authentication servers. A license is required per instance of vCenter Server.

  • Change the password for the Active Directory account that is running VMware VirtualCenter Server

We have an ESXi5.5 environment and I was instructed to change the password of the Active Directory account is used to run the VMware VirtualCenter Server Service.

There is a Data Source configured for a separate MS - SQL Server that is configured to use Windows authentication

I find the Article KB KB VMware: changing the vCenter Server database user ID and password

On the key: KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc., \VMware VirtualCenter\DB T HE for 2 and 3 values are empty

It is not quite clear to me if the vpxd.exe Pei command is necessary for our environment (service AD account and Windows authentication) or if it is only if SQL authentication is defined on the Data Source - would anyone have experience with this change and be able to clarify for me?

    Thank you

    Yes you are right,

but I would suggest to stop the services first before you do the activity, it can take the old password in a few times and lock the conduit to account

    2. once the password is updated, make sure that the login account is updated (is currently running services on the specified user account or local account?)

If it runs using the specified account, you will need to updated and restart the services.

    3. make sure that the services are running fine and observe for a while, the user account must not get locked.

Let me know if you have any other questions

  • The VMware VirtualCenter Server service stopped with the error service special 2 (0x2).

I tried all listed in other postings, but our VSphere 4 server resides on a SQL server server.

I tested the connection odbc with the SA password and it works, it rebooted several times now, tried to stop all services and bringing up one at a time, but whenever a dependency is not. I get this error in the system log, the VMware VirtualCenter Server service stopped with the error service special 2 (0x2).

    And

VMware VirtualCenter Management Web Services service depends on the VMware VirtualCenter Server service which failed to start because of the following error:

The service has returned a service-specific error code.

    Application log says this

The description for event ID 1000 from source VMware VirtualCenter Server can not be found. Either the component that triggers this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event is on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information has been included in the event:

Could not initialize the VMware VirtualCenter. Closing...

the message resource is present, but the message is not in the string/message table

I don't know how to fix it. It was working fine yesterday. Nothing has changed. Or has anyone experience this problem and have a solution?

  • Questions about the location of the VirtualCenter Server

    Hello

We tested VMware for about 6 months now and we're finally ready to go into production.   We currently have 2 data centers and we start in the small office.  Not sure if the WAN speed connection between the, but it's enough through the Cisco CallManager.

My question is that Dell says that we only on the VirtualCenter (vCenter Server) server on our main site.  I understand that VirtualCenter can monitor up to 200 guests ESX (with VC 2.5 which we are currently running).  I was wondering just is a common practice that most of the people do, just 1 VirtualCenter Server?  I was just worried about latency when creating virtual machines, scan LUNs, etc..

In addition, we would carry out a VCB server on the 2nd site with the ESX hosts.  Is it still viable to have the VirtualCenter 1 server at a remote site?

Basically, I just need something contrete for management.  The only thing that I could find VMware came from my binder of class who said: "the bandwidth required for communications between the Virtual Center Server and the host is very small."

    Thanks for your help.

If I want to fix the vCenter via programs and features, I only get the warning, my system is not in a domain.

There are all the other newspapers that I can get the question?
    Maybe any help?

I can't say since when vCenter does not work, perhaps because any Windows Update has been installed, but then I have to find anything through google I guess...

  • Using Get-VMHost connected to an ESX vs. host connected to a VirtualCenter Server

    Hello

The script here returns a list of paths storage dead but only works when you run against an ESX host. How can I adjust it to report on all ESX hosts, managed by a VirtualCenter Server?

$vc = Read-Host "enter the name or the IP address of your server VC."

    SE connect-VIServer-Server $vc

    Get-VMHost | Get-ScsiLun | Get-scsilunpath | Select Lunpath, Preferred SanID |

    where {$_.} SanId - ine $null - and $_. State - eq 'Dead'}

    Disconnect-VIServer-confirm: $false

I guess this is a loop in the sense of 'ForEach' ($VMhosts in Get-VMHost), but have been unable to come up with the appropriate syntax.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

The following script will display the properties in the HTML file, as in the first script.

Shaped more away from the exit (separation of the column, frame, color...), you will need to use the HTML formatting.

  • Can I use Lab Manager with VirtualCenter Server Foundation

Hi, now I'm choosing the license type for my gateway.

Regarding now I can't manage through Virtual Center more than 3 knots.

But I have a question. Can I use VirtualCenter Server Foundation License with VMware Lab Manager 3.0?

You can use vCenter Server Foundation with PF3. We currently have 3 standard ESX licenses and a vCenter Server Foundation and it works very well. The only limitation is that you cannot manage more than 3 guests, but in your case it does not appear that it will be a problem.

  • Toolkit and remote sql server DB

I have an application that creates a table and inserts the table entries (~ 15 fields of strings and numbers), it works properly when you speak to a local sql server express labview and the db toolkit.  I connect with a udl on windows7 64-bit file.  I am now trying to connect to a database on the network, I got the udl file to work and connect very well but my query failed (probably created the table) the error code has not been defined.  Anyone have any suggestions on debugging.  I guess that sql server and express to take the same thing, it could be a permissions or timeout?

If I had to guess, I suppose that the connection didn't correct permissions on the remote DB, although I expect that you would get a recognizable mistake with this. This should be relatively easy to find by logging into the remote DB with this connection using another program (for example, access or Management Studio) and performs the same operations.

Even if the error code appears as not defined, you can try to search online and see if other people fell on it. Be aware that some error codes are shared by different applications, so be sure that you look good results.

It would also be useful to know exactly where the error is generated, which should help you more to find the pattern.

  • Comparing the data set of Oracle database local to the Remote SQL Server database

    Hello

I have a table in an Oracle database that is gradually being updated with a table in SQL server through the database link. There is a field "Date of creation" in the table in SQL server that I used to find the newly created records and shoot and insert them into the local table to the Oracle database.

Now the question is the documents/data in the SQL server remote can be deleted as well and I see a lot of files are already deleted and I couldn't find a way to capture the information of deleted data to remove from my local table.

    I tried

    SELECT id local_table

    where there is no

    (select * (or 1))

    of remote_table@database_link

    where remote_table.id = local_table.id).

And I tried to replace not exist with no so.

The problem is that the query is too slow with link of database for IN/NOT EXISTS clause NO. So, I'm trying to find an effective way to capture the lines deleted in the remote to remove as a result of my local table table.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Oracle Database 11 g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64 bit

    Thank you

    Chrystelle

    It is perhaps easier

    Select pk / * or sustitutive key * / from Oracle.tba

    less

    Select pk / * or sustitutive key * / from SQLSERVER.tab

This returns the rows that exist in Oracle but not in SQL SERVER-> delteted lines in SQL Server.

Another way is to create a trigger to remove in sqlserver and track in a table delete lines.

  • Remote SQL Server in WAN environment

    Hi guys,.

As I read the reference guide questions are poping up.

If I have a SQL Server remote acting as SQL Server my vc instance which is the best way to implement in a WAN environment with vCenter Heartbeat?

    Thank you

    Dougie

Process is the same as if you protected vcenter via a WAN with heartbeat.  If you have a different IP address for primary/secondary, then you use the WAN option and provide IP addresses as required during installation.  The only difference is that you select SQL at the primary and secondary installation wizard.
