Vista 64 bit won't in mode 'sleep'

Hi all

Just bought a new desktop with Vista 64 bit computer.  He won't go in mode 'sleep' and is therefore always on.  I tried to contact dell technical support and they said it was a problem of Microsoft/Vista about the transformers containing more than 6 GB of RAM.

How do I get this resolved?

Hello RobertVP,

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft answers Forum.  The question that Dell was referring to involves hibernation, a deeper form of sleep.  Please read this article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base that explains the issue and a work around:

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/888575

If you just try to get your system to put to sleep, there are some management settings power described in the article in the Knowledge Base you can try:

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/888575

Let us know if or the other of these items solve your problem.

Thank you

  • 64 bit Vista crashes when the system goes into Sleep Mode. Have cold start. Simultaneous began with the June 8 patches.

This problem started a week ago, say at the time of the June 8 fix release. I think the relevant in case the log message is 'detected bad event COM + a system code back during internal processing. HRESULT is C 8007043 line 45 of d:\longhorn\com\Complus\src\events\tier1\eventssystemobj.epp. Error report, please contact Ms Product Support Services. "However, when I contacted MS, they would not help without paying the fees because it was an OEM installation. The system remains upward after the stabilization of the system going on in SafeMode after cold start, close and then switch to normal mode. However, once launched, it seem (ed) as the hard drive light was permanently. I did a restore to June 8, most early I could continue.  The hard drive worked without interruption after that.  I did a forced sleep and restart and the system froze again. With this in mind, I wonder if .NET patches that were released were running somehow at the time of sleep and that he could not recover.  OR, during sleep, the system was made of updates and the system has been disabled, corrupting the updates.  I looked at the Windows Update settings and it has been set to automatically install updates.  It is quite possible that the user did not know and did not recognize there are pending updates.  Maybe updates were not correctly packed in order to manage a system from going into Sleep Mode, while they were installing. In any case, any who would provide help on how to identify the problem and fix it.  There may be registry entries need to be corrected?

Microsoft support has provided a solution.  Here is the procedure:

We can run reset Windows Update Tool and system update tool to detect incorrect manifests, files or data from the registry. Please follow the steps below.

Step 1: Launch the tool to reset Windows Update and the update of the system tool
    ====================================
1 download and run reset Windows Update Tool from the link below:

    http://go.Microsoft.com/?linkid=9665683

2 download and run the update tool of the system from the link below depending on the Type of system:

Update for Windows Vista 32-bit system tool

    http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=f6f353c0-d00e-43e7-97EF-0feefc7ff064&displaylang=en

Note: It may take an hour or more time to detect and replace the erroneous data, please be patient. When it is finished, restart the computer and reinstall Windows Vista SP2.

If Windows Vista SP2 can not always be installed, I suggest to download the stand-alone Installer and install it in clean boot Mode.

Step 2: Download the installer of Windows Vista SP2 Standalone
    ===========================================
1 download the installer of Windows Vista SP2 Standalone from the link below depending on the Type of system:

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 - version independent ALL languages for Windows Vista 32 bit (KB948465) (475,5 MB)
    http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=891ab806-2431-4D00-afa3-99ff6f22448d&displaylang=en

    http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=8ad69826-03d4-488C-8f26-074800c55bc3&displaylang=en

Step 3: Install Windows Vista SP2 in clean boot Mode
    =========================================
Please disable all startup items and services of third parties at boot to avoid conflict when installing Windows Vista SP2.

    1. click on 'Start', type: MSCONFIG in the search box and press ENTER.

Note: Click 'Continue' if the "User Account Control" window appears.

    2. click on 'Services', check "Hide all Microsoft Services" and click on 'Disable All' (if it's not gray).
    3. click on 'Start', click 'Disable all', click 'OK' and restart the computer.

Note: Disable temporarily the startup group only prevents the start up programs from loading at startup. This should not affect the system or other programs. We can manually run these programs later.

    4. double-click the downloaded standalone installer and follow the instructions to install Windows Vista SP2.

To restore the computer to a Normal startup, repeat step 1 above. Then click "Normal startup" in the general tab, click on "OK" and restart the computer.

If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to let me know. It is my pleasure to be useful.

The cause was not determined, but evidence tends to a disturbance in the download or installation process, with one of the errors in the event log is an error in checksum on one of the modules. With a large file, 745 meg, the mean time to failure on a LAN network is probably shorter than the download time.  The installation process was probably longer than the time that the system has increased...  Corrective actions for Microsoft could include more small download / install, not allowing an automatic installation for automatic download over a certain size, or deal with the best controls during installation to intercept the checksum error.  Duane G. • Reference Dell with Vista/64 won't go to sleep by himself.

I have a 3-year-old Dell running Vista 64 desktop computer.  I've only used the sleep (or hibernation... can't tell them apart) mode manually, using the keyboard command: [Fn] + F2 on this old HP keyboard.  It works fine, the machine goes to sleep, to be awakened by the mouse or any key, asking for a password for the connection.  Large.  But I set Power Options to get the machine going to sleep if she has been preserved for an hour, and he won't.  The screensaver comes on after 5 minutes as it should; the monitor turns off after 20 minutes, what is right, but the computer won't go to sleep.  What I'm missing here?  Thank you very much.

UPDATE: the problem has been resolved.  The first reference cited by Robert gives two options: a manual change to the computer (registry?) via start/run and typed in command in the folder C: / / command prompt, or a downloadable "fix" to the millisecond.  I had tried the manual, but then returned and did the download.  The downloadable patch is obviously more than one manual, and it solved the problem.

  • white screen after that vista went on mode 'sleep'

    Hello

My laptop started to have problems after going sleep mode hibernation recently. I run a Dell Vostro under Vista 32 bit. My big problem is that I can't test one of the solutions I found on the internet so far because even with a forced shutdown the laptop never start back. White screen. Nothing is ever displayed.
Last time I went out that holding the key FN holding power. Then released. The screen came blue and memory tests and drive hard started. I let it run and no problem was found on the hardware side. After the tests were performed, the computer restarts and I press F8 to boot into safe mode. Everything went well for a week after this episode. I tried the "sleep mode" once again and it was as if nothing ever happens. Everything worked well.
And now, it's happening once again. This time, the combination FN-power supply does not work. Nothing appears on the screen ever. The power button not blink or change color. The hard drive light turns on for 3 seconds only when I try to start. Then it's screen white and everything that I hear the laptop fan...
Any idea of someone from the combination of keys to force start the laptop into a kind of safe mode?
    Thank you very much!!!

So it seems that I have to respond to me :) Just in case someone goes nuts facing the same issue, find multiple options on the web 2007 update you this, change the configuration that say, start in SafeMode etc., here is what I found to get out of the black screen after a watch on my laptop. I hope this might help someone else:

    1. Open the housing by unscrewing all to access the battery (not easy, go slowly and carefully do not damage the fragile covers). I hope that your battery is more accessible than mine.
    2. Disconnect the battery cable (if you have my laptop Dell Vostro: first - raise the head end of the connector so you can exit the orange cable gently)
    3. At this point, the rear of the laptop is completely "naked".
    4. Unplug the power cable
    5. Press and hold the power button to laptop for 30 sec.
    6. Plug the power cable back (battery is always not connected)
    7. Press the FN key + power button for 1 second and release them both at the same time
    8. The DELL logo is displayed, and finally the screen is not black more! I need the pre-boot system assessment tests. I hope that you will have this screen also. I suggest that you run the tests. In my case, nothing was wrong with the hardware. This is a Windows problem.

After this step, I was able to start in safe mode and play with the features of windows. Since I'm a busy mom and small business owner, I don't have time to assess what is wrong or even think to completely replace Windows on an old computer laptop 1 year part-time, so far. So I just canceled the sleep function for now.

    Good luck.
