I asked this at Dell because we are often advised to go the manufacturer first for support on any software provided originally with a system.  Inevitably builders sites that reverse and we send to Microsoft.  I never get tired of it.  In any case, here's what I asked Dell:

Lately when I try to defragment my disk, it does not work.

I go to post work, right click the C: drive and properties, then Tools, it analyzes the disk or disks, says '' your file system performance may be improved '' and recommend that I have to defragment now, but then when I hit the button "defragment now...". ", it just recycles the analysis and said I need to defrag again and has reactivated the button"defragment now... ". ».  Clicking on it again simply recycles the procedure without never to take me to a screen showing the defragmentation process, as I'm used to.  It's like a perpetual analysis with no actual defragmentation.  Above in gray inscription notes that last run Defragmenter, perhaps minutes before, he also advises that I have Defrag.  It is a crazy line.

I note that somewhere along the line of the window for his appearance changed disk defragmentation;  I just assumed that it was during a Windows update any.  This isn't what I remember already on this unit of Vista, and certainly not as the window I used to get when you do a defrag on the 2005 XP desktop.

    That is what it is?

    2008 Dell XPS 1530, Vista sp2.

As a subnote, my security program has removed 3 Trojan horses in the last 3 weeks that snuck by his active observer, but have been found in the analyses subsequent system I ran.  It has probably nothing to do with the issue of defragmentation.

I have a vista edition windows Home premium, service Pack2. My problem is that I have a 2 GB sandisk micro sd with adapter card. When I tried to use it, a moment ago, it did not work. but I, somehow fixed. I don't remember what I did, but it worked. and now, it's the first time I am using the card in a moment and the computer does not read it. I searched online for some time and could not solve the problem. I hesitate to do a system restore or anything of the sort, because it is my grandparents computer. Finally, I came to the conclusion that the sd port can be broken, but I tried another card and it worked perfectly. The other card was also a sandisk 2GB, but this is a regular, not a microphone. I went into Device Manager and all drivers are working. I also made sure the sd card is not locked.  I don't know what to do anymore. Help, please.

  • Windows Media Center Vista don't tune in digital channels of PCI digital tuner tv.

I recently installed a new Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600 NTSC? ATSC/QAM tuner in my computer. Its a dual core 2.66 mhz 4GB Ram running Windows Vista Home premium with Windows Media Center. The tuner is made to work with Windows Media Center according to its box. He also had his own software cleaner, IE. WinTV, which I also loaded. I have an antenna hanging good input on the tuner card. That same exact antenna wire hooked to a digital TV Gets the following strings... 6.1 and 6.2 - 6.3 - 8.1 - 8.2-8.3-17.1-17.2 - 17.3 - 22.1
WinTV those gets exactly the same channel list and can display them all. Windows Media Center, after the execution of the installation routine, list the same channels, but do not think that all. Problem channels are 8.2 - 8.3 - 17.1 - 17, 3.  These channels show in the guide as "No Data Available" and when you select them, there is no signal detected. Yet, channel 8.1 and 17.1 gave Guide and discover very well. It is interesting when you go through special antenna Signal: settings: TV: Digital TV the 8.2 problem channels - 8.3 - 17.1 - 17, 3 list all the and are verified with check marks and show full signal strength. I spent time trying to play with the Guides Add announcement & edit channels and add missing channels. Also, I spent time with "Set Up TV signal" several times.
Any suggestions? Why is the windows media center grateful but not display secondary digital channels, still recognizing and displaying the primary digital channel very well. It can be the signal or the pilots, because MyTV of Hauppage shows them all very well.
    Help?

Try windows update.  I use this card with media center 7 and had no problem getting all the digital channels.

  • Security Center Vista don't detect Norton Antivirus like antivirus, antispyware and firewall?

Just noticed today after reboot. Was fine until tioday, even after restarting 2 days ago(11/22/09)

Is there a solution for this?

    Hello

Some antivirus/security products may cause this error. McAfee, Norton, Windows Live OneCare.
ThreatFire are some. What antivirus/antispyware/security products you have on machine now. And
who have you ever on it, even if you have uninstalled them. (They leave leftovers that cause
strange questions.) So it's certainly in your case.

Check the default services and dependencies to ensure that they are running.

  • Vista don't forget display settings; move the second monitor from top right.

Windows Vista is often (not always) forgotten my display settings for my external monitor.

I have a Dell XPS M1530 laptop with a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 M GT graphics card.  The laptop is running Vista Home Premium SP2 with all updates applied.  I have a Samsung LCD monitor mounted on the wall above the laptop screen that I use as a second monitor (driven by the output of the laptop).

I updated the display settings so that my second screen is located above my main monitor. My problem is that Vista often forget this parameter after the standby or hibernation, and returns the value by default display settings of 'second monitor is to the right of the primary monitor'.  This means that I often walk in the display settings to do the right thing (pardon the pun).

I've seen other messages to try to use 'View to connect' in the settings of Windows Mobile (win - X).  However this option only supports a second monitor is located on the left or the right of the main screen - not on it.

Any suggestions before I have eventually give up and drill several holes in the wall to mount the external monitor to the right of the screen of my laptop?

    Thank you.

In my case out of sleep the primary monitor (laptop) is off (still asleep) while the second monitor is on but the resolution is that the screen of the laptop and he took the position of the main monitor. I push the "fn" + 'f4' key to switch between monitors, laptop monitor turns on but the secondary display stands. Another pressure on the keys cause the laptop monitor to be shared and the secondary monitor is now on, that's what toggle keys do. On the third time that the keys have pushed the two monitors came the resolutions they were Setup.

Try using the ToggleKeys. On some laptops the 'f' key to toggle is "" f5"key. My 'f4' key has the image of two monitors.

    I hope I could help

  • Just recived new desk top. Vista, don't care for vista. I want to go back to XP. no problems with operation cpu so I do it?

Also if I go for XP, my drive of high grade work?

Installation of XP instead of Vista:

Come on first, site of the manufacturer of your computer, check to see if your model computer has XP drivers available for it...

If the XP drivers are not available for your model, forget the idea.

If Yes, download and save to a CD or Flash drive.

Then buy a disc XP and license.

Save all your data because it will be lost during the installation of XP.

Then follow the steps below to do a clean install.

    http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp

Once installed, reload ALL your other programs of original media, or download again.

Reload all drivers and utilities for your motherboard.

I ran defrag for 8 hours, it's frustrating to be unable to monitor ar progress how much has been accomplished. Is there anyway you can visually monitor or verify progress. I had to cancel after 8 hours, the following question has done a defrag take place?
I preferred the XP process where you can follow our progress and plan accordingly - any help much appreciated

The monitor/graph of progress you make reference to a missing in Vista, due to popular demand.

And Defrag in Vista runs in the context anyway.

There is no need to manually Defrag in Vista.

  • You defragment a PC with a lot of pictures on this topic?

It would take too much time to defragment a PC with a lot of pictures on this topic?

It is perfectly OK to defrag with lots of photos.
How much longer? Don't know.  You will have to discover for yourself.

There is an alternative rather than using Vista built-in defrag application.
I use a 3rd call program Auslogics Disk Defrag.
    1. it's free.
    2. it takes me 20 minutes each time, max.
    3. it allows you to decide which drive to defragment.
    4. it shows you the process on the screen.
    5. it gives you a report summary at the end.

    RE: disk defragmentation

There is no need to make disk don't defrag manually. It is a colossal waste of your valuable time.

You can "plan" disk defrag to date and time. It will take place at the scheduled time, you set up. In this way, it will run without interrupting your normal computer and without your presence chores.

Here are the tutorials to schedule disk defragmentation. You can get what day of the week and what time.
