Vista extremely slow operation - Please Help!

Acer Aspire T180
An AMD Athlon 64 3800 + 2.40 GHz processor
1 GB of Ram
Vista Home Basic 32 - bit OS SP2

I ran the cleaning disc, uninstalled all unused programs. I even moved my photos on the D drive to free up space. I'm almost ready to just wipe the drive and start over, but do not have a way to save my info (external hard drive is not in the budget for some time). Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

Thanks in advance! 8)

  • Windows Vista repair boot loop - please help.

    Hello

    I had trouble with my laptop startup and having the dreaded loop of the Startup Repair. It started last night and I did everything I could to get it to allow me to connect on the long desk, enough to get my files, but there all come without result. I am now on my attempt 67th to get startup repair and desperately need help. My only problem is, is I have not backed up my files both needs so I can't do a full restore of the PC. Call me stupid, because I already know that I am.

    I already tried the three security modes, the last good configuration known and all the rest on the list of F8, but also contact Toshiba support, but none of them has nothing to help me. I did the whole thing from the CHKDSK, but she came back everything was clean, much like the Startup Repair tool says that there is 1 origin but he can't find not and comes up with the error code 0x0. I do not have a re-temperament of OS disc either and nor do I live near a "Geek Squad" of any kind. In addition, I can't restore my computer to an earlier point.

    I am at my wits end and very close to burst into tears because I can't get my laptop to work and I think my only option I have left is to do a complete restore of the PC, and I REALLY don't want to do that. My life is on my computer and I feel so stupid for it backs do not. This will definitely a lesson to be learned.

    My computer is a model of Toshiba Satellite L355D with windows SP2 and Vistax32bit.

    Please help me, and if this issue is resolved, then, I will be eternally grateful.

    Thank you for your time,

    MissSakura

    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

    Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

    NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:

    ISO Burner:http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html

    It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

    You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

    It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

    And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.

    Data recovery, if required:

    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.

    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.

    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:

    http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html

    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
    Download the Vista software from the link above.
    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.
    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.
    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.
    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.
    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.
    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.
    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).
    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.
    Vista recovery media obtain and/or use the Partition Recovery Vista on your computer to the factory settings .
    There is no Vista free download legal available.
    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.
    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...

    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.
    They will tell you how to do this.
    Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, Acer, recovery disk/s etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    Vista will not install updates (V4BizSP2) Please help
    Hello! Please help if you can. We have a bit of Lenovo (ex - IBM) laptop under Vista Business SP2. While it has allowed a small number of updates, especially when run us Windows Update through the effort for a while and then said: we need to update Windows Update (himself). We click so to do. Then after some time it returns to the initial screen (when you click to perform a Windows update). Thus, we believe that everything is fine and that Windows Update is udated (himself), and ready to go (do its work). SO we click on it and... voila... the cycle repeats..... She tells us eventually need update Windows Update (alone, once again).

    To check (with history of installation), which has been updated, usually nothing. The latest updates that automatically enrolled as successful were then more: last week and since then were not successful however.

    Told us to download and install the update to windows directly from the microsoft Web site. We did the download, he said that he filled very well. He asked if we wanted to install. We clicked on Yes. He worked on it for a while and then says installation failed.

    We have Vista Business Service Pack 2, and Norton 360, and it's a 32-bit machine. Any help is very appreciated, especially if it is super easy for computer-illiterate. Thank you very much!

  • I have a fatal error of the system on vista (Home Basic). Please help, it is said: __STOP: C000021a {fatal system error} initial session process or system _ ended unexpectedly with status 0x00000000 (0 xC0000001 0 X 00100450)

    That's what happened, I was using just disk defragment hard disk and since it takes a long time, I just left it alone and came to my laptop after a few minutes (about 15 minutes) and all of a sudden, I see my laptop is off.
    I turn it on again normally and after a while, the screen goes black and a blue screen with the message above appears. I press the "TURN OFF" button and it shuts down.
    That's the problem.

    I can not use safe mode or something, I tried everything in the F8 menu such as 'Last good known Configuration (Advanced)' and 'debugging '. Nothing works, all of this brings back me to the error message.

    The only thing I can do, is use the Startup Repair tool.

    It scans and tells me that he could correct errors, then I used the restoration of the system (to an earlier point), I haf 2 restore points but an error message appears and then they both became deleted. At the moment, I have no restore points.
    I can only use the command line Interface which directs me to "x: windows\system32\.

    I can use regedit (the registry editor). However, I tried another procedure step by step that earlier, I found that told me how to fix this problem, I typed in "System Root\System32\Drwtsn32.exe" and it says 'system is not recognized as an internal.... " »
    I also tried "System32\Drwtsn.exe" and he said: 'the path cannot be specified.
    I don't know what to do, I ask you is can you please help solve me this problem by using CMD and the registry editor. Please, thank you very much for your time.

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
    My laptop...
    Windows Vista Home Basic
    1.00 GB of RAM
    AMD Athlon processor
    120 GB hard drive
    ATI Radeon X 1250 graphics card (that I could remember)

    It's strange, so you are always able to get into the safe mode command prompt is that correct? If so try to type sfc/scannow and see if it finds problems

    regarding the komodia, you can stop this cycle by quickly tapping F8 and select Disable automatic reboot after the system failuyre you should give the sfc/scannow suddenly too who could fix

    Oh and the reason for which you've entered in this thing drwtsn.exe and itt said it does not recognized is because you're not on the right track

    in any case I doubt that may help, but if you know you need to learn how to navigate your system using the command-line... pretty easy:

    CD means change directory

    If you type cd-it will take you to the root of the system

    so go ahead and type of

    Note that you are no longer in the c:\windows\system32 folder

    now type
    CD windows
    CD system32
    Drwtsn32

    Note that you can type the first few letters of a file or folder tab and press on to fill in the rest

    in any case, who should start the program that you try to start but I think that your better off trying to run the sfc/scannow command. Let me know how you go

  • Vista crashes after having been slowed problems please help

    Vista freezes after inactivity after 10 + minutes. then the only way to get it back to a difficult start. Had this problem for over a year. I tried every fix suggested here and on other forums. I reinstalled windows, about 8 - 10 times in the last 18 mos. I have a HP Pavilion a1720n with Vista Home premium Service Pack 2 32 bit OS., core 2 duo intel viiv cpu 6300 1.87 GHz, 320 GB hd, 1 GB of ram. I replaced the video card NVIDIA graphic card, reinstall the ram and same half pulled then switched to another, tried the fix of the pagefile, changed the keyboard and mouse, did the thing to clean boot, msconfig-services-disable all, startup - uncheck some or most, among a hundred other suggestions. None of this has helped.  It does not freeze as long as I'm sitting in front of it using the keyboard or the mouse. It only happens when I walk off the pc for more than a few minutes.  Windows defender is stopped.  I have AVG 2012 but normally I have more than Mcafee, even if there is still an active subscription, I haven't added since reinstalling windows 2 days ago.  I scanned it with malwarebytes program and he comes clean. Virus scan is clean.  I noticed that whenever I have reinstall windows, it's usually after the installation of the updates that it begins to freeze again.  I paid almost $900 for this pc and expected to last longer without this problem. Someone at - he no clue as to how I can solve this problem for good? Help, please. Thank God I have another pc as a backup.

    Well, I decided not to buy a new hard drive after all. I reinstalled windows, once again, the only thing I did different this time around is format the hard drive rather than reinstall.  It's been 4 days since I did it and my pc was no freeze ups at all... yet.

  • Vista - extremely slow installation updates

    I decided to do a clean update with Vista and using the update feature so I understand not properly installed.  The problem is that I'm downloading and installing updates for more than 16 hours today and I'm not even up to Service Pack 2.  I missing something here or is there something wrong with MicroSoft fundementally?  2 hours is too long!  Much less than 16 hours.  I have a cable internet connection and a quad-processor, so I know that's not the equipment.   How can these people have a job when there are so many people unemployed?  If I'm supposed to do the update of the tasks otherwise, why me I didn't.  This is really unacceptable.  What's the matter with you people?

    Hey Rocky671

    "just took me to the usual stuff.

    What was the usual stuff

    1st thing to try is a restoration of the system in safe mode

    http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm

    Windows Vista

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer'shardware be listed. When you see this information begins to tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with theBoot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode option with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista .
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

    to boot from the dvd drive to be able to you will see a way to get into the bios Setup at the bottom of the screen or command menu start

    It would be F2 or delete etc.

    Change boot order it do dvd drive 1st in the boot order

    and if all else fails and you need to reinstall vista are the normal methods for computers preinstalled vista portable

    Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send vista recovery discs

    they do it for a nominal cost of $

    also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

    you would normally press F10 or F11 or Alt + F10, 0 at startup to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

    Ask them of the exact key sequence

  • Computer HP laptop window vista does not load please help

    someone asked this question and I have the same problem!

    I have a laptop HP who have dirtied pre-installed Vista and for some reason after installing automatically 3 updates the other day, he is not now charge up. The laptop is plugged in so it can configure 3 updates without failure (due to something like battery dying).

    When the laptop turns on, it gives me two options:
    • Start the reboot system (recommended)
    • Start Windows normally
    If I click on 'Launch Startup Repair', he comes back to do the same screen with them two options and when I click on "Start Windows normally", the laptop everything restarts and then return to this screen.
    Thus, F8-ing it does not help either - it gives me options like computer repair, Mode safe mode, last known good, etc... but none of these helped either.
    I looked around online for a solution, but most say on the use of the Vista installation CD, but the operating system is installed on a partition on the laptop (also there are files on what I would come down)... However I do not know if I can get it to boot on the installation partition either
    I tried F8, F11, F12 and nothing works

    If the system or Mode restore safe work not and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html

    Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

    NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:

    http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/

    ISO Burner:http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html

    It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

    You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

    It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

    And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.

    Data recovery:

    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.

    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.

    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:

    http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html

    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
    Download the Vista software from the link above.
    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.
    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.
    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.
    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.
    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.
    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.
    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).
    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Vista recovery media obtain and/or use the Partition Recovery Vista on your computer to the factory settings .

    There is no Vista free download legal available.

    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.
    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.
    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...
    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
    See you soon.
  • Services of Windows Vista 64 does not, please help!
    Hi thanks for reading.
    Noticed the other day my firewall is not running. A few weeks ago my AVG anti virus asked me if I wanted to move to a premium account for a 30 day trial and contained their own version of a firewall. He said that he would resort to Windows Firewall when finished.
    30 days passed, and he asked me to return to the original settings and the free version. I don't check if windows firewall started running.
    And so back when I noticed.
    What Ive tried: Panel > Security > windows firewall - says "windows firewall does not use recommended settings to help protect your computer" and there is a button for "update settings now" which when you click on it, I get the thing of glass hour for a few seconds and nothing happens.
    Run > services.msc > Windows Firewall - said State 'arrested' firewall service and when you are prompted to start, gives me error 6801
    Also noticed now that windows update and windows Defender will not be updated. Windows update search updates, but up quickly the code Error 80070426 and once again, to enforce > services > windows update/defender does not work.
    Then in flicking around, I have observed under the information system in 'computer' tab, he says: 'this copy of windows is not activated, click here to activate now' and Im thinking it is crazy! I have not had my PC very long, but I have activated vista right after that I installed it when buying. If I click on the link, and it says: 'a problem occurred when Windows tried to activate. Error code 0x80070426
    Edit: just thought of something that can help. Awhile back, before this all started, windows update prompted me one afternoon to install Service Pack 2 and I thought "why not?" Well, after a complete system failure and me to have my friend rally and he manages to get into the command prompt and run 2 types of checkdisk, I go back to my computer. Now, I don't think it off anything, or whatever it may be disabled, but something could have been damaged?
    IM puzzled and any help would be massively appreciated! If anyone needs more info, let me know!
    System information:
    Vista Home Premium 64-bit
    Intel Core2Duo E8400 2x3ghz
    NB: No matter what Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free and download/run the removal tool before installing updates, Windows Service Packs, or updates IE and before installing your new anti-virus application (which will require WinXP SP3 must be installed).
  • Please help make the equivalent of a defrag on my Mac, as it is extremely slow
    my Mac is extremely slow, painfully slow in reality and needs a cleanup but I don't know how to delete it all waste such as cookies etc and help run faster.
    Help, please
    Cookies do not affect the performance of Mac, and there is no advantage in "defragmentation". Do not use any product that claims to "clean up" your Mac either. They are all scams.
    Back up your Mac if you have not already done so. Read https://www.apple.com/support/backup/to learn how to do this. To learn how to use Time Machine read to use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac.
    Determine if the problems persist also in 'Safe Mode':
    • "Safe Boot" or Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all system of third-party extensions and only loads the required system components. Read about it: departure upward in Safe Mode
    • You must turn off FileVault before you start your Mac in Mode without failure.
    • From your Mac in Safe Mode takes longer that usual, graphics won't get smooth, audio is disabled on some Macs and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
    • Just from your Mac in Safe Mode does not solve the problem, it's to observe its performance without additional components.
    • To end, Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Stop will take more time as well.
