Vista hosts file keep endangered

Hi all.

My Vista hosts file began to disappear these last time.

I have no problem of replacement and it works very well after this, but what could be the cause of it disappear.

I run vista basic security and everything worked fine until now.

A few days back the part changed in the file has been deleted mysteriously, today the entire file has been deleted.

Hi firestang,

Do you remember any change to your machine before the problem?

Follow the steps below and check if the problem persists.

Step 1:

Check if the host files disappears in safe mode .

Step 2:

If it works fine, I suspect involvement of conflict of software of third party causing the problem to occur. I'd make you clean boot and check if it is caused by a third-party software.

Note: Follow step 7 to your computer as usual.

Step 3:

Do the SFC scan on your machine and check.

Step 4:

It could be because of a virus or spyware. I suggest that you run an online scan in order to remove the malicious software from the link below.

  • System Restore and the host file

How do you keep restoring the system to unblock web sites in the hosts file?

    Hello

System Restore is not designed to do what you want it to do.

A system restore point contains the settings of the computer at that moment in time.

It's the idea of system restore.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-pH/Windows-Vista/what-is-system-restore

"System Restore helps you restore system files from your computer to an earlier point in time. Is a way to cancel the system changes to your computer without affecting your personal files.

"These restore points contain information about registry settings and other system information that Windows uses."

    See you soon.

  • Why the hosts file is reset periodically?

Hello, I would like to redirect an IP address to a localhost, but whenever something comes back the original contents of the hosts file.

I open windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts with Notepad under run as administrator, and then make a change in the hosts file. All new Vett are redirecting to localhost (127.0.0.1), but suddenly some time my hosts file is returned to the original state.

My system runs Windows Vista x 64-bit edition.
What can change my hosts file and how to make a constant change in it?

    Best regards
    Voronkov Konstantin

    Konstantin,

I'm not familiar with VPNS modifying the file hosts as Brian suggested. Also, VPNS are a bit outside the scope of support here in answers and if you need more information about the VPN, I would recommend display in TechNet Windows Vista Networking:

    http://social.technet.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/itprovistanetworking/threads

From personal experience, I find some antivirus software will monitor and restore the hosts file. If the host file is always reset to 0, you can perform a clean boot, use the system and see if the file resets. If not, it means that something in startup is reset the hosts file and from there you can determine what startup item is causing the problem.

Check out the link below for instructions to boot:

    I hope this helps!

  • The host file size

I use Workstation 6.5.1 on a laptop Vista host and would like to recover by a host of disk space.  Looking at the beam, I have a file XP.vmdk 'base' for the VM about 16 GB, a file XP - 000001.vmdk about 8 GB, about 12 GB of XP - 000002.vmdk file and a file XP - 000003.vmdk about 42 GB.  I thought that the '-00000 x' vmdk files were associated with snapshots and could be moved or deleted and always run the current computer 'base', but if they are not residents in the bundle file, the virtual machine does not start and you request the location of these files before it starts.

What are these files, and I can eliminate them someway to recover disk space hosting?

    Thank you.

You can simply delete or move a snapshot because they are related to each other and to the base file - memory snapshot contains the changes that are made to the base file - you must use the Snapshot Manager, either delete the snapshot and the soociated Exchange or merge the snapshot with the basic - disk

  • PS CC request serial. Host file not found on Win 8.1

    Well, that's about all.
I can't use Photoshop because it keeps bugging me with "enter serial". I sought advice and did the most commonly recommended things (language, security etc.) BUT when it comes to the reset of the. Host file - well, heck. I can't find anywhere. Or, to be more precise, there is a file named. Host in my system32/etc folder, but when I open it, all I get is a few lines of text explaining that "it is an example of HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows" and instructions on how to edit such a file. There is no entrance to the current host, or anything else for that matter, so I can't do anything with it.
So... What am I missing? I don't have Windows 8.1 for a long time and I'm still not all that familiar with it. It is just so ruined irritiating when I cannot work and may not use the software I pay for

  • vSphere Essentials Plus - with no no hosts file information.

We recently bought Essentials Plus (ESXi4).

To get working HA, I need to change my hosts file on both servers I use as ESXi4 keeps forgetting to put the hostname after the FULL domain name.

That is to say, I get:

    x.x.x.x hostname.domain.com

    Instead of

    x.x.x.x hostname.domain.com hostname

Modification of the file/etc/hosts to fix allows me to turn on HA.

However.  Whenever I have restart a server, the file loses the game again host name on the rebooted server.

Is there any solution for this?  Edit the hosts file after every reboot is a pain.

We are in the installer restart so many phase.

Why don't you just do your ESXes can be solved by the redundant DNS servers?

  • New Plesk server - require the host file entries

New server plesk is falling into place and I was told that it "requires entered host file" and to move forward and implement that.  I'm at a loss... ever been asked to do before when moving websites on new server.  Any help is most appreciated!

The mine has exactly two entries I have comment/Uncomment if necessary. What you have that is written to your hosts file?

You might have a phishing/spyware/adware blocker program, adding sites to block.

But you should make sure that it is not adware/spyware-phishing attacks that make writing.
