Vista SP3?

A few days ago I noticed that Vista has shown that SP3 installed. I tried to install SP2 (for the 1st time) but the system said: "a newer version of Windows Vista Service Pack 2 is already installed." That's all.
Interesting that Windows Update has not yet said SP2 issue didn't exist. Automatic update is turned off, then set it to notify.
What am I supposed to do?
THX.

Hi Matt. Good news, I'm not the only one with the problem. And it seems easysolving one:
http://www.Vistax64.com/Windows-updates/229221-SP2-update-problem.html
http://www.Vistax64.com/Windows-updates/222759-Vista-Business-Service-Pack-3-a.html

The hexadecimal values of the subkeys "CSDVersion" to the following registry keys should be changed from "300" to "100":
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet00? \Control\Windows
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet00? \Control\Windows

That's all! Thx for the basic instructions.

  • Hotfix for KB 2470478 Vista moved it - error 0xc8000247

I have a HP Pavilion dv6700 laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2. I got my drive hard original factory replaced with a Western Digital Scorpio Black 750 GB hard drive, WD7500BPKT-22PK4T0. The store of the computer creates an image of my old drive using Acronis True Image Home. Everything seemed to work fine until I noticed that Windows Update did not work and said that the service was not working, while he was actually. The error in the WindowsUpdate log was 0xc8000247.

I discovered a thread from 2011 indicating this problem, others that I lived because of my new HDD is an advanced Format drive that uses a 4 K sector size rather than size of 512 K older sector. The Microsoft Knowledge Base has an article on issues that I am experiencing. specifically, the 2470478 KB. I tried to install the fix that is provided in this article, but it won't work. It throws the same error, 0xc8000247. Similarly, I can not install the system update readiness tool.

I read that Microsoft could be published a new version of this fix that works in 2011 (!) or including a fix in Vista SP3. However, none of them happened. Is there a way to fix this?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Going to answer my own question here, because I finally found the answer in this thread of the Acronis forum:
I followed the steps posted by tubebend and ncsdiver towards the end of the thread.
Bottom line, to make Vista works on the new hard drive for Advanced formatting, I had to restart the old drive hard in, install the Microsoft KB 2553708 hotfix on the old disk and then re - clone the drive on my new advanced Format drive.
Then, because my computer has an Intel chipset, I also had to install a driver Intel Rapid Storage Technology 9.6 versioned (or most recent) on the new drive to support Advanced Format drives.
After these steps, we worked through Windows Update.
Research still wasn't working, so the last step was to boot from the Vista installation disc, choose repair, open a command prompt and issue the command /FixMbr. Bootrec After that, all the services and applications that depend on ESENT worked again.
Here's a great article for anyone installing Windows Vista or Windows 7 disk Advanced Format that explains the problem in simple terms and provides a bunch of good links:
One of the links is to the next page of Microsoft which has a table showing what it takes to run correctly on a hard drive of the Advanced Format various Microsoft OSes:
Hope this post makes this information more visible and help others who have cloned without wanting their systems Windows Vista or Windows 7 on an older drive on an advanced Format drive. The problems that Windows running on Advanced Format drives don't seem to be common knowledge.

    Hello

You will need to purchase a license/disk/upgrade Windows 7 product key.

Microsoft sells more Windows 7 and you would have to buy from Amazon, etc.

There was a free upgrade offer, but it expired a long time ago:

"The Windows 7 upgrade Option is available through participating PC manufacturers on some PC and Microsoft on any purchase of packaged product Windows Vista. The Windows 7 upgrade Option applies to Windows Vista Home Premium, Business and Ultimate editions. Your upgrade to Windows 7 will be the comparable version: so you will get either Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional (upgrade to Windows Vista Business) or Windows 7 Ultimate, respectively. The Windows 7 upgrade Option program works on June 26, 2009 through January 31, 2010. Some manufacturers may choose to shorten the time of upgrade Option. »

  • Fix for KB 2470478 Vista install-Setup has encountered an error: 0xc8000222

original title: hotfix for KB 2470478 Vista will not install

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion Elite Notebook DV7t-1000 running Vista Home Premium SP2 with all updates installed. To replace my original factory now too small hard drive, I installed a Western Digital Scorpio Black 750 GB hard drive (model number WD7500BPKT). With the help of Acronis True Image Home 2011, I restored the original scores of my system disk (disk Local C: and D: HP_RECOVERY) factory on the new drive.

The transfer of my system partition and recovery to the new drive more big seems to succeed. The system booted normally and my Office and Windows installations reported to be installed correctly. But when I checked Windows Update, the system reported that the service was not available and offered to restart. I restarted but still, the service reported that it was not available.

I predicted that this behavior could happen and that he had prepared for her. In my research for the upgrade of my hard drive, I had learned that my new HDD is an 'Advanced Format drive"that uses a sector size of 4K rather than the traditional 512 K sector size. The Microsoft Knowledge Base contains several articles on this issue and the specific article for Windows Vista is 2470478 KB. Following the tips in this article, I waited until what the symptoms of a problem appeared until I tried to install the patch. Disabling the Windows Update service was one of the symptoms that I was looking for.

The file from the hotfix associated with this Knowledge Base article is a .zip file only when it is extracted product a file called 'Windows6 '. 0-KB2470478-x 86.msu. However, when I try to run this file, I get the following error report: "Setup has encountered an error: 0xc8000222. I tried to turn off my antivirus Norton and restart the system, but all attempts to install this fix have the same error.

Outside waiting for Microsoft to formalize this fix as an update (part of Vista SP3?) someone has suggestions to make the installation of this hotfix to succeed? While I did not check for other errors related to this problem, my situation of upgrading to the new drive convinced me that my problem is the one indicated in the Knowledge Base article. My original Esent.dll files are significantly older than those reported in the patches section. When I replaced the new drive with my original Windows Update drive normally.

Outside of reboot or turn off the antivirus protection, someone has suggestions to work around the error to install 0xc8000222 in order to safely install the patch file (. Windows6 0-KB2470478-x 86.msu) for the Microsoft article 2470478 Knowledge Base?

    Thank you for your response.

I followed the advice in this thread by adjusting to make it use the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista (KB947821), rather than tool for Windows 7. When I tried to run the tool I met the same problem when I tried to install the hotfix: error installing 0xc8000222.

Because I had the same problem to install the tool on to Windows Vista after I had moved the image of my old drive to the new drive, I saw two choices. See 1) file a journal report as suggested in the thread of Technet or 2) if I could install the hotfix on my original hard drive and then rebuild the disk image for installation on the new hard drive for Advanced formatting.

After you set a system restore on my source drive point, I chose to install the patch and rebuild the disk image. For security reasons, I installed upgrading preparation system tool for Windows Vista (KB947821) beforehand. When I restored the image of the disk on my new advanced Format drive software seems behaves normally. Windows Update works now and Windows and Microsoft Office indicate that they are enabled. This solved my problem. I also notice a nice increase startup speed on my new drive system.

The instructions on the fix should not use unless the problem appeared, that I interpreted to mean do not install it on the new Advanced Format HDD unless I saw a problem. However, once I saw the problem, I couldn't install this hotfix or any other Windows Update. Indeed the files included in the fix has featured several hardware drivers rather than standard system software.

A problem with my approach, is that I had the luxury to regenerate my disk image after the installation of the hotfix. If one is obliged to restore a backup image to due to hardware failure, I don't believe that, after copying the disk image on one of these new Advanced Format drives, we could install the hotfix or the update of all other windows. The fix needs to be improved to the point that it is a standard part of Vista. I'm pretty sure that Microsoft is already planning to do.

My system works, though if you think it would help, I could always point out my logs in a location of Skydrive for people of Technet.

  • TCP/IPv4 obtain DNS automatically

    Hi all

I have my router configured to use dns to opendns servers, and everything works fine except for my desktop under Vista SP3 PC.

I have my router set up because of the IP based on MAC addresses, so I have the TCP/IPv4 set to obtain an IP and DNS address automatically.

My problem is the PC of Office Watch reset itself and registering an address in the DNS server box. How do I delete these addresses and force it to Auto adjust.

I don't really want to put in the openDNS servers, in case I decide to go back to my ISP servers. I prefer to keep auto and make the changes on the router.

It becomes very frustrating to have to keep resetting.

Go to start / Control Panel / Internet Options / connections / select the connection and click settings.  Click on properties and go to work in network and select TCP/IPv4.  Under TCP/IPv4, select properties and make sure that the first page says get an address of DNS server automatically.  Click Advanced and then click DNS.  Make sure that the only two boxes checked are Append primary and Suffixes connection specific DNS and add relatives of the main DNS - nothing else suffix suffixes.  Click OK and save this.  This should solve the problem.  But I suspect that you already did (probably several times) so let's move on.

The only other option that I can think of is to reset the TCP/IP stack that can get rid of the incorrect addresses and run and fresh with the correct settings.  Here is the procedure:http://geekswithblogs.net/mattcampbell/archive/2007/09/30/Resetting-your-whole-IP-stack-in-Vista.aspx.  I don't know if this will help, but if you are having problems with TCP/IP, it is one way that many people use to solve.  Then you will need to reconfigure the TCP/IP settings and then you can see if that does the trick.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!
