VM connection fiber Tape Library

Is it possible to let the virtual machine see 4.1 fiber tape library using NPIV? is it supported?

Thank you

See page 29 in the Guide of Fibre Channel SAN Configuration

ESX/ESXi does not support the connected FC tape drives.

  • With the help of a fiber tape library channel on a VM

    Hello world

asked if it is possible to use a tape library of channel of fiber as a device to a virtual machine running on an esx 3.5 host that has SAN connectivity; I know that you can map a phisycal fibre channel adapter on a virtual machine, but this means that it can be used by the VM only, if I'm not mistaken.

This is a new subject to me so I am curious about all the options that I have and all restrictions, as well as i can decide what is the best thing to do.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

For ESX 3.x go to http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Virtualization/How-to-Attach-Local-Tape-Device-to-VMware-ESX-Host/

With ESX 4, you can use PCI PASSTHROUGH option as well.

  • Nexus 5000 native FC disk array and tape library

Is it possible to have servers to connect by FCoE to nexus 5000 switches as well as native berries FC of attached disk and tape library without requiring additional CF as the MDS 9000 switch? The reason why I ask, is that all the patterns I've seen on consolidated IO to this point show switches connected to the FC ports native on the nexus 5000 MDS. I thought that the Nexus 5000 would be able to replace the MDS attaching devices FCoE and native Fibre Channel devices. You see only such a diagram has me second guessing my initial thought.

Yes, you can use FCoE and FC of Nexus 5000 to connect to networks. I tested and it works very well without any problems.

FCoE, you have module FCoE in the bays and the appropriate license.

    Hello

We have Cisco UCS 5108 2 6120XP fabric of interconnection. We are running VMware on my Cisco blades. I have I need to connect my Dell TL 4000 LTO3 tape library this Cisco UCS so that I can configure a virtual machine with the EMC Networker software for backup of virtual machine data. When I connect the Cisco UCS library, it does not recoginize as tape drive.

Please suggest how to set up the same.

    Thank you

    Amit,

We do not support direct damage attach FC tape library to the FI currently.

It may be a CF or CF storage end switch.

  • tape library

    Hi all

VM does support players band or tape library, if yes how can achieve us?

    Thank you

    Hello

tape drives and the library are supported on ESX so are SCSI:

In any case the fiber channel strips and the library usually works well.

  • Quantum and Esxi 4.1 tape library

    Configuration:

    -Esxi 4.1 Vsphere

    -HP Proliant DL180 G6

    -HP SC11Xe SCSI Adapter card

-Quantum Superloader 3 with one LTO3 drive

When the quantum tape library is connected to the serevr... see from esxi on this disc, but not robotic library. So on Windows, I can have only a single drive for making backups and need to manually load a strip every day.

So I contacted the vmware support and they told me that automated libraries don't are not able to be connected and used on a server vm but they would open a feature request and hope to be compatible in the future... are they laughing at me? Anyone able to get a taoe Robotics library working on a virtual server? Some tips to make the esxi see the changer and the drive?

    Thank you

In vSphere client, at the level of the host (i.e. selected host), go to Configuration, advanced. If you host supports passthrough, you should then be able to provide the SCSI itself (as opposed to the unit) to a virtual machine single card so that she can then access it and all the attached devices, in the usual way. Not that I've never tried

  • Apple TV 4 cannot connect to the library

    Hi guys,.

This is a weird problem, I have an apple tv 4th Gen connected with home sharing to my my main library located on my mac mini.

When I connect the ATV via wifi everything is ok and working as advertised, I connect to the library there and can disseminate all my content.

When connecting via an UTP cable it I can see the library but when I click it I get the error failed to connect to check library if the ATV and the computer are on the same network.

    Facts:

-They are on the same network

-ATV can see the library but not connect and ATV is connected to the internet.

-Disconnect the cable, it moves to the wifi and works again.

-Mac mini connected to my switch 24-port gigabit D-link

Cable ATV - connected to a 3com 8-port gigabit switch that is connected direct t the D-link switch.

    Any idea guys?

Thanks in advance for your insight and skillful help regardless of the result.

  • Driver for IBM TS3100 Tape library. for windows 2008R2 and DPM 2010

I installed DPM 2010 in the edition of Windows 2008R2 STD. I am using the IBMTS3100 tape library. Windows detects the tape device but media changer appears as unknown medium changer. I cannot see the details of the driver for the medium changer and means 'no driver file is required or have been loaded for the device. When I try to update the driver, it says already installed the latest driver for the device.

Now the question is DPM does not detect the slots in the tape library.

I have installed Symantec Backu Exec in the same server and everything works fine.

If anyone has the driver for the device please inform else we are go to Backupexec... :(

The problem was solved after I gave CPP (9703) BI server instead of normal to the port port (9704).

  • Problems with connecting fiber and new router AirPort

I installed the fiber optic connection to replace my cable modem connection... I have a network of airport for a long time. When I bridge router ISP in my airport network that there are multiple problems. The major is that when you plug the ethernet cable from the modem ISP Ethernet port on the WAN of Timecapsule port all the TC LAN ports go dead. (the ISP's modem has already a cable ethernet in the WAN port or the first port that comes from the optical network Terminal that the fiber optic cable to connect from the outside). I talked to the ISP and they say just use any ethernet port to connect to the WAN port on the TC. On their end, they say everything is connected and works... then it's the Apple... I bought a new TC and changed my ethernet cables, but all I can establish is a wireless network. My network is itinerant and all of my extremes are connected with cables, but all on my main TC LAN ports are dead. I rebuilt my network and the same problem... And I think that the culprit is ports LAN TC is off

Unfortunately, Apple has designed their routers airport to work with a standard cable and DSL type connections. The fiber is a whole new game ball, and Apple has not yet learned the rules of the game, so you may or may not have a really hard question.

When you plug the ethernet cable from the modem ISP Ethernet port on the WAN of Timecapsule port all the TC LAN ports go dead.

Before you connected to the fiber "modem" Time Capsule, did first reset you back to default settings... and then... set up again I hope to work with the fiber optic router?

If this isn't the case, you need to do whenever you change providers or the modem that the Time Capsule connects to.

All other devices that might be connected to the time Capsule should be turned off and unplugged.

Then, if the time Capsule can be configured to work with the "modem" fiber, you can connect devices to the time Capsule one at a time to ensure that each of them is working before connect you to the other. It may be necessary to reconfigure some or all devices that are connected to the time Capsule so that everything works again.

Bottom line here... get the time Capsule working first with the "to modem" fibers. Then start to add other devices to time Capsule one at a time.

  • Tape library PowerVault TL2000 & drive LT05 HH

    Hi all

I checked the firmware on my PowerVault TL2000 tape, 9t 30 which is updated. I'm looking to update the firmware of the player LT05 HH, which is obsolete and has the d2as version. I can't find the firmware for LT05 HH, I found LT05 but without HH.

I wonder if the two LT05 and HH LT05 would have the same firmware?

    Hello adeelarifbhatti,

The difference between the 2 files, is that this LTO5_E6Q3.fc.ro file is for fiber channel drives while the other file is for SAS drives.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • HP StorageWorks MSL2024 tape library integrate R720 Dell Poweredge

    Hello

I have a dell Poweredge r720. I want to integrate HP MSL 2024 so I need to install the LSI SAS9212-4i4e interface card.

Is this compatible with poweredge r720?

    Hello simpleguy3k,

This is a combo card because if you connect hard drives you can use it as a raid card, or if no drive is directly connected to the card then it can serve as a relay SAS card. Also, I checked the compatibility of the guide & it supports two different tape units. http://www.LSI.com/downloads/public/host%20Bus%20Adapters/host%20Bus%20Adapters%20Common%20Files/LSI_6Gb_SAS_SATA_HBA_Compatibility_List.PDF

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
