I feel like a cat chasing my tail!

  In short, my problem is that I have an installation of XP (home or professional) intact windows, but after deleting another partition, the computer does not start to it. My question is what are all the things needed for a computer can be started on the windows partition - even just to the loading screen (which files are needed on the partition, for example boot.ini file, which must be in the MBR, how to mark a partition as bootable; etc.).   I was working on a friend's computer, and he asked me to delete the partition that it has not been used (D) and melt in his primary partition (C) where was the installation of Windows. I used a program called Easeus to format the partition for Windows let me to merge.   So I still need an operating system to access the files on the C drive, so I did an installation of Fedora Linux (on a small new partition in drive D). I could check on the files and they were all intact, including the Windows system files. I could not find anything wrong with the partition, except for the apparent absence of a file boot.ini on drive C. I tried to add a boot.ini file by default (even though I wasn't sure exactly what should be in it). I can only assume that when my friend had the computer built with partition by a local technology company, they did the D drive partition bootable, but put the Windows files on the C drive. It makes no sense, but I can't find any other reason format another partition that windows would make it unbootable.

  The problem is, now, I have GRUB installed to Fedora. GRUB cannot boot directly on Windows, so he has to begin on an another bootloader that can. I think I have GRUB pointing to the right partition, but I get an error message. So, what I want to know from a point of view of Windows is everything necessary for a successful boot, assuming I can get GRUB to work on his end. What should a healthy Windows boot look - exactly, what should happen?

  The other option, of course, must do a fresh install of Windows on drive C (and hope for no BSOD more). I could put all the files on the partition of Fedora and move them back after the relocation. So what you think - is it worth a try even to save the current installation of Windows?

• p6230be: DVD not recognized after W10 upgraded

  After the upgrade to Windows 10 on my Pavillion p6230be DVD player is no longer recognized.

  Hubert, welcome to the forum.

  You run Windows Update to see if that solves your problem.  There is no Win 10 driver for your HP computer.  In fact, I doubt that HP will develop pilots because your computer is 6 years old.  That's the problem with the update to newer operating systems.

  I think that using Windows Update can cause problems (unintentinally or not) for users of Windows XP.

  In a series of accidents with an old computer and reinstall the XP Pro operating system, I discovered that MS Money installing only if it was made before the Windows updates.  (planned obsolescense?)   I'm under XP Pro on a Dell Optiplex PC with all the current Windows updates (SP3. Net4, etc..) and last month, I added a USB IDE hard drive. the hard disk enclosure is MASSCOOL, and I used a 250 GB Seagate Barracuda7800. The car worked perfectly until this week. I had the Windows Update critical update automaticlly value and security updates.

  The hard drive has disappeared from "my computer." I tried to plug and unplug in different USB ports, restarted the computer, but continues to receive the "new hardware detected by saying me that new hardware has been detected and that I need to install the necessary driver.

  The problem is that Seagate does not provide any driver for this drive, because it is supposed to be (and was so far) recognized by the Plug-and-Play of Windows XP software. The hard drive enclosure came with a mini CD, but this contains software to use the unit as a back-up, not for storage.

  I can't understand that this change suddenly to believe that something in the Windows updates that have been installed recently changed the command structure, registry files or the drivers themselves.

  I know this is possible, because I've seen what's happened to any program that relied on self. INF file that was originally part of XP. This resulted in programs like Microsoft Money and older versions of MS Office, not being able to be installed by those of us who are not 'technically lit.

  This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don't be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

  Step 1

  The goal of this step is to determine if the problem is localized to your user account.

  Select the feedback connections* and log in as a guest. Do not use the Safari connection only 'user comments' created by 'find my Mac '.

  While signed in as a guest, you will have access to your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you use them for the first time. Do not be alarmed by this behavior; It's normal.
