VMWare Fusion 4.1 full screen - black Bars?

Hi all

I get black bars at the top and bottom of my VM sessions when I try to use the full screen with my VM.  I don't know how to solve the problem I tried all the obvious things (last VMWare Fusion and VMWare Tools in the guest OS).

I had trouble with VMWare Fusion version 4.1.0 (529802) and full screen with a machine virtual Windows 7 x 64.  I upgraded to 4.1 and Mac OS X Lion at the same time.  When I upgraded, I have also improved the VMWare tools in the guest OS (see screenshots).  I noticed that I CAN manually change the resolution in Windows, and expand the Windows form to fill out the black bars, but as soon as I exit full screen and go back in the black bars of back... it is like VMWare is not said that the guest OS resolution appropriate to set go full screen!

Does anyone know how to fix this?  It is incredibly annoying.

Hi Cyberfunk,

Sorry it took me a while to catch up with this thread... for some reason, my forum email notifications have stop working.

Your file preferences Fusion user, in "~/Library/Preferences/VMware Fusion/preferences", seems to contain the following:

pref.autoFitFullScreen = fitHostToGuest

With your VM off the power (not sure if the suspension will be enough) and with closed merge, remove the line above, then launch the merger, turn on your virtual machine and then see if your comments in full view full screen.

See you soon,.

  • Can not see several screens host VMware Fusion V2 (mode full-screen)

I recently upgraded from VMware Fusion v1 to v2.0.1 (build 128865), partly because of the tantalizing statement in the notes to version v2 about "True Multiple display support" specifically, statements ' ability to use any or all screens in mode full screen "and" your virtual machines will recognize each display connect you to your Mac as a separate virtual display»  I have sought the community for all additional documentation on the multiple display support, but have so far produced no detailed information.

The release notes imply it should Just Work (TM), but so far I have seen no suspicion of multiple display support full-screen mode.  Multiple display support is limited to a subset of customers compatible OSes?  If so, what operating systems?  If they are supported in any guest operating system, how do they appear?  Was the first place where I looked in the settings of the virtual machine display pages, but there is nothing there.  In the prompt Windows 2000, I upgraded merger v1, raise the display properties in the comments shows only a single monitor.  I tried to create a new virtual machine from scratch and installed the guests supported Ubuntu 8.04.1 with easy installation method.  Still, there is no indication of a second monitor.  Moreover, I am short on a Mac Pro with 2 monitors connected and OS X 10.5.6.  I installed VMware tools in the Windows 2000 and Ubuntu customers, version of the tools is 7.9.3 (build 128865, i.e. corresponding to the version of Fusion).

I would be grateful for clues for where multiple display rack is fully documented, or where it occurs in the Fusion or comments UI.

Edit: I just remembered something that might be relevant for the case of Windows 2000.  I created this virtual machine by running the VMware Converter on a Windows 2000 machine.  So strictly speaking, this comment was created not even using Fusion v1.

Multiple display support is limited to a subset of customers compatible OSes?

Yes. Unfortunately, Win2k is not supported for multiple monitors (he uses a different view model that XP/Vista, which are taken in charge). Ubuntu 8.04 should work according to me (I know 8,10 does). One thing that fires people upwards, is have you select view > use all displays in mode full screen instead of attempt to activate multiple monitors in the prompt.

  • Add the full screen tool bar

    Hello

    JDE - 6.0

    device - torch

I have a screen and two FullScreen in my application.

I learned that we cannot add a toolbar for full screen, as there is no function like setToolbar (toolbarManager) which is available for a screen. (is it possible to add a toolbar to a full screen?)

When I changed the full screen for screen, then I was able to add a toolbar.

But I do not want the default options of the system menu, which is part of the class of the screen. How to avoid the system menu in a screen?

    Hi peter,.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I tried the override of the method "makeMenu", he created a menu without items. He created an empty menu (when I put the NO_SYSTEM_MENU_ITEMS style bit).

Then I tried the override of the method "onMenu. and I returned false from this overridden method. now, the menu is not yet complete.

    Thank you

These are third party, but they are nice places to start:

  • Command bar of fusion (top of screen) meets while mode full-screen Win XP vm

I have looked around the blogs for a similar problem but haven't found any, maybe because I'm not using the right terminology, so please tell me the existing relevant documents or post it here. Thanks in advance for any help.

I upgraded my Windows VM to Windows XP SP3, about two months ago, then updated my installation of Fusion to 2.0.1 a month ago. I use my Win XP VM to a programme on Access 2003 VBA and generally run in mode full screen to simplify the use of the PF keys, with the command bar top of page in auto-hide mode. The only other programs I run on my VM is Security Suite that comes free with Fusion 2.0 and Microsoft OneNote 2003, I use actively in taking notes that I work. Sometimes, I use IE to check the Microsoft security updates. Given that I've enabled auto-update from Microsoft, I rarely feel the need to manually check Microsoft Update. Almost always, I would have i-Tunes streaming background music on Mac OS X, and sometimes I would switch in Unity mode so I can start a browser in Mac OS to search for information on the web. Because I'm in development of access code mode, I sometimes cause program crashes of the window, not forcing me to restart my computer virtual when that particular problem surfaces. My preference of Fusion is configured to optimize the performance of the host, based on some tip I've read in this blog some time ago.

Some time after XP SP3 installed and update of Fusion 2.0.1 top I believe VM fullscreen command bar randomly becomes unresponsive, leaving me with no way to access my OS X applications. However, my VM would still be sensitive if not, and I can always close. Usually, I stopped my WIndows VM, then merge and raise the Fusion and my WIndows VM. Since the command bar is usually in hide mode automatic when he becomes insensitive, he appears before the eyes and blocking application windows that I work with, so I know generally as soon as it happens.

I think that I always had this kind of problem, but it doesn't happen often and I chalk up to the cost of working with a virtual machine, but now its happening too often I want to check if I did something wrong in the software upgrade. So, here are a few questions:

    1. my understanding is that VM Tools give me the ability to run in Unity Mode. The only documentation I've read on VM Tools for Fusion says that it need Windows XP SP2. I guess this note means that VM Tools for Fusion does not support Windows XP SP1. No problem, but are there any problem using the tools in the virtual machine with Windows XP SP3?

2 when I upgraded to Fusion 2.0.1 recently, in the hope that it can clear up this particular problem, I downloaded the upgrade of the VMware download page. My question is: I have to reinstall explicitly VM Tools when I merge 2.0 to Fusion 2.0.1?

Merger of command bar (top of screen)

The UI element that is at the top of the OS X Desktop is called a menu bar and you be a programmer, I'm surprised that you don't know something as fundamental as that.

  • Calendar resumes always full screen with black bars at the top and bottom

Calendar always starts like that. I can reduce and enlarge the window, and the problem disappears when the application is open. Seems to happen on the screen of my Air and when you are connected to an external monitor.

    Hello

I have the same problem.  I had this bug with 10.11.x for awhile and then he suddenly stopped.

I don't really know how...  Maybe it was a cleaning with Onyx, but I'm not sure.

Since the upgrade of 10.11.4 today the bug came back.  I ran Onyx on the system without a bit of luck so far.

@xryancx: do you have that you have installed a beta version of Mac OS X?  It was my case (El Capitan GM) but I did upgrade to the official, as soon has - it is available on the Mac App Store.

Some people think that I've noticed is that the bug does not affect view DAILY.

    Step to reproduce:

    1. Calendar launch (you'll get the bug full screen)
    2. Exit full screen
    3. Click on daily view
    4. Return to full screen mode
    5. Calendar of quit smoking
    6. Calendar lunch again (there is no bug with day mode)

  • Black bars on the left and right sides of all my games when they are full screen mode

While I was running a game after upgrading vista to windows 7, all the games now have black bars on the sides of the screen that looks to when you watch movies in format wide vs full screen.  What is a display problem? DirectX problem? How should I do? It gets annoying when I want to play in full screen but technically can't because of these bars.

so I think it is a problem of resolution because I could put in effect of mass of my laptop and now its full screen... I hope I tell me something on warcraft since it can go to lik 1024 x 720 lol... and I won't change my max resolution on my desk... I still think its strange that the game was full screen when I was playing it on vista with the same settings.  I guess that ill just wait for a patch or something and just in front of her.

    Thanks for the help.

  • VMWare Fusion 7 Windows 7 Black Screen

VMWare Fusion 7 Pro. I have an existing, working VM of Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro 15 "Early 2011 (4xi7) running OS x 10.10 (Yosemite). I copied the VM to my Mini Mac 2012 (4xi7) running OS x 10.8. When you start the computer virtual on the Mini, I chose the option "moved" instead of "copied", as two virtual machines will never be upwards at the same time. While the virtual machine on the Macbook Pro still works fine, the VM copied on the Mac Mini boots to a black screen in the main window. However, the preview window indicates planned graphs and charts in this window it is started normally! I tried:

    1 again copy the VM

2 turn off the acceleration option and the retina of 3D graphics

3 reinstall the VMWare Tools (since I see still graphs in preview window, this was difficult but not impossible)

    4. turn the simple core CPU and remove image from DVD player

Nothing has worked so far. Any ideas?

Well, I found the problem: the card drivers USB DisplayLink. It's one of these USB devices that allows you to attach a view to it. The version of the drivers I had installed caused this problem. Not sure if the new drivers solve this problem, because I just uninstall them. • Put MacBook to sleep when you run Windows XP on vmware Fusion / screen when opened black top (waking from sleep)

REF.: macbook 2.4 ghz, 4 GB of ram, osx 10.5.8, vmware fusion 2.0.5 running Windows XP sp3 with 2 GB of Ram assigned

Could you get it someone please let me know what is the reason that every time vmware runs, and I close the lid of my laptop, each time I open the cover to get back to work, I get only a black screen.

Should I be hitting the button suspend running vmware OS, before you close the lid of my computer and he get to sleep?

Thank you for any advise you can provide.

    Kind regards

    Hello

You can just put some time you're comfortable in these areas. It should not matter.

I think it is it is happening is that your guest is going to suspend - not the vmware suspend, but WinXP suspend mode - and that's for a reason any does not cover.

If my suggestions do not help, you can also try to re - install VMware tools, but take a snapshot before that, just in case

  • My VM Fusion is stuck in mode full screen

I have a virtual machine OS X 10.7, who was running in a window of 1024 x 768 on my iMac 27 "retina.  Wanting a larger screen/desktop computer, I first tried simply resize the window of Fusion, but everything that blew a 1024 x 768 screen.  I have also been unable to change the native display size in OS X > System Preferences > monitors.

Finally, I made the mistake of clicking on the green button zoom on the merge window, waits that will expand the window to the maximum size (with a window border) under the Fusion menu bar.  Instead, I now a window full-screen OS X with no menu bar merge and no ability similar to exit full screen mode.  Since there is no window border, there is no green button to zoom out the window.

Move the mouse to the top of the screen displays the merged menu bar.  I am able to stop the virtual machine.  But when I restart it, it's back in fashion full screen.

How can I escape mode full screen?

    -Ward

    Hi Ward,

To exit full screen, click on the view menu in the toolbar and choose the command window.

You can also use the following key combination: "control-command + f" (can be used to turn on/off n/b full screen and single window)

About the resolution of the screen, have you tried to install VMware Tools?

If not, click on the Virtual Machine > install VMware Tools.

  • VM shows a black screen mode full screen only

I have a VM Windows Server 2012 R2 with two related clones. The clones related both work very well, but the first VM is having trouble automatically setting the resolution. I had the problem in VMware Workstation on my PC where the resolution would not change at all when I adjusted the size of the window, and now in VMware Fusion 7 when I try to switch full screen with it I just get a black screen with a mouse cursor until I switch from full screen.

How can I fix it if I can use the virtual machine mode full screen?

EDIT: All three of them have black screens in mode full screen now after restart my mac.

I fixed it by going to settings > view and uncheck "use full resolution for the Retina display.
