VMWare tools update problem

Hi all

I use VMWare Fusion 2.0.2 and try to upgrade the VMWARE tools. But suddenly installation stops and I get the error message that I have attached here.

Now, I would like to know how I can solve this problem and get properly installed tool.

Try to uninstall VMware Tools through first control panel and uninstall the virtual machine is rebooted, then install VMware Tools in the Virtual Machine menu.

The VMware tools install probably brought to light the specific video driver for VMware view. Try reinstalling VMware View Agent and be careful on the VMware Tools updates.

vCenter Server Appliance and VMware Tools update

I've just updated VCSA to 5.1.0.10000 build 1065184. I had to uninstall VMware Tools first because the update failed with
"VMware Tools can not install because it seems that another installation of.
VMware Tools is already present. Please remove the previous installation and
then try again to install this version of VMware Tools. »
error in /opt/vmware/var/log/vami/updatecli.log (I had a similar problem with the previous update).
After updating, I see in this newspaper:

But I can not start the daemon:

VMware Tools update fails

When I run a virtual machine, I get a popup telling me that a new version of VMware Tools (version 8.8.2) is available. If I click to download, update the product for awhile then stops with an error box saying that there was a problem updating the component.
As far as I can tell, I have VMware Tools installed 8.8.2. How can I remove this popup?
Running VMware on Linux CentOS 5.8 8.0.3.

With the machine off, go in the Edition-> Preferences-> updates and and uncheck the two boxes «» That should do it.

WS 7.1.4 - impossible to download VMware Tools/Update

Sorry for creating another post on this subject, I see many others have the same problem, but none actually provided what I needed.
When you try to update, it hangs on the connection ()https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds).
I have improved my vmware installation (download manually), but for some reason any packages msi with the tools got an error during installation and has never been installed, now miss me all VMware Tools.
When I try to visit the following url:
https://softwareupdate.VMware.com/VMW-desktop
I get "File not found", and I tried this on several machines, on the 3 different inet-connections, all the same.
For some reason, I'm able to enumerate:
http://softwareupdate.VMware.com/CDs/VMW-desktop/WS
But when I enter the 7.1.4 - folder, I get "file not found".
So that someone knows the reason for this, or can give me the direct link to all the tools for WS 7.1.4?
I looked everywhere on vmware.com for download stand-alone tools... It could have been so simple

I hope that I'm not the only person having problems with this. Just start with the month of June, then July, then August.

P.S. I have 2 laptops running XP sp3, one is 9 years old and the other is 11 years old, he had 2000 top PRO, but I just put XP sp3 on it last month. They run too much like fields. I take good care of my computers with a little help from my friend IT. They have the same programs as this one and I do the same things to them, but they do not have this same problem with the release of the MSRT tool. Which leads me to think that it is specific to Vista only, I have a Windows 7 computer yet, so I can't speak for seven.

Any suggestions or ideas? We are scratching our heads on this one.

Please, review the vminst.log file located in % TEMP and see if we could see related errors. Otherwise follow the troubleshooting steps below;

1. check that the guest operating system that you want to install VMware Tools is fully certified.

2. check that the correct guest operating system is selected

3. check that the good ISO image is loaded. For more information, see ensuring good ISO image VMware tools is loaded (1003910).

4. check that the VMware Tools ISO image has not been damaged. For more information, see determine if your VMware Tools ISO image is damaged on a host ESX/ESXi (1004820).

5. If you are installing a Windows operating system, make sure that you do not encounter problems with your Windows registry database. For more information about the resolution of the problems of register with VMware Tools, see Impossible to upgrade the existing VMware tools (1001354).

6. If you install on a 64-bit Linux guest OS, make sure that there are no missing dependencies. For more information, see Tools from VMware install fails to start the daemon of guest OS on the operating systems 64-bit Linux with the glibc-common package 32-bit installed (1023185).

As the title suggests, VMware Workstation 11 crashes after installing VMware Tools with a guest Windows 7 x 64. I am running VMware on a host Windows 7 x 64. As you may already know, VMware has just released a major update for 11 workstation (including VMware tools updated). Workstation now works almost perfectly. I don't have accidents since then. This means that I have was right in my post above. This is indeed nothing more than a BETA version of VMware buggy, lazy, masked as a "final". Wow, it looks like that a respectable company like this would not resort to such unethical practices. I mean that you would expect this kind of crap of a company like Electronic Arts, but VMware? Come on guys, you're better than this!

Snapshoting a virtual machine (Windows or Linux) before a upgrade VMware Tools as a precaution

Our company has standardized on the use of VMware snapshoting than a level 1 to save uninstall mechanism possible to issues related to the updates / patches. It works very well for Windows updates on our Windows guests, as well as the updates I YOU on our Linux guests.
My question is if anyone thinks that there is a risk associated with the use of this process to guard against a possible problem that might occur after an upgrade VMware Tools.
The process would be: Patch ESX host, migrate a guest to host newly patched, instant, prompt, install VMware Tools update, restart, test and certify, delete the snapshot.
Since you're snapshoting a system that has an older version of VMware Tools, it's a bad idea to rely on this snapshot in a recovery scenario? Use the VMware Tools as part of the process of snapshoting a guest?

Yes, you can snapshot before the upgrade tools and come back if something don't jive. To take it even further, you can snapshot before the hardware upgrade of the v7 and return to v4 if it does not work.

Seems like a lot of works well, but it does not offer a good backup method.

VMware Tools for Mac will not install bug.

Hello I have a clean install of Mac OS x 10.9 I raise in a virtual machine but when I bring the VMware Tools installed, get an error:
Cannot install VMware Tools on this disk. VMware Tools requires Mac OS X 10.5 or higher.

I've tried versions both 6.0.1 and 6.0.2 darwin.iso for VMware Fusion. but the same error. I wonder what VMware is actually audit to determine the versions of operating system. I have in the past summer success install the same software on the same computer, but I have tried to reinstall from scratch (more than once) and tried many changes of setting on both hosts and guests with no joy. Anyone know how to fix?

I'll tell you one last time... When clean install OS X 10.9 Mavericks under VMware Fusion 6.0.2 VMware Tools are not automatically installed!

In addition, it turns out that the "internal" or "removable" made no difference that I was able to move the vmdk from SATA, SCSI (appears inside the system) but that made no difference either but has been tested

I have mentioned that the drive internal vs external because VMware Fusion before 6.0.2 has not created a good installer for OS X 10.9 Mavericks nor was it settled the case, and the fact that it was not properly installed may have been a contributing factor to the VMware Tools install problem not necessarily imply that the disk shows as external!

This straight out of the iso, but not being is not a Mac OSX expert... don't know if I can run alternate and no package installer idea what files are changed by install VMware Tools.

Still confident enough, I can work around the issue of the installer.

I just tested this on a clean build and with the help of pacifists opened the VMware Tools.pkg (Install VMware Tools.app/Contents/Resources/VMware Tools.pkg) in the bundle 'Install VMware Tools.app' on darwin.iso (VMware Tools for OS X) and "Selected files.pkg content" then clicked on install and check 'use administrator privileges '. He basically just moved the files in places and then after that I restarted the computer virtual VMware Tools seem to work. I tested VMware shared folders, copy & paste, drag & drop, and change the resolution of the screen... all seem to work fine, however it was simply intended as a test and not a recommended method to install VMware Tools and I don't know if it is essentially a complete installation. I don't have the time now to analyze the two occurrences, one made appropriately and the other using pacifists to see if there is in fact no difference.

I was also going to take the vmdk to another platform and see if any difference (doubt it will be)

Any platform with not brand hardware Apple is a direct violation of the SLA products and may not be discussed in these forums!

We recently upgraded to vSphere 5.1 and update the VMware Tools with the package included, build a 782409 on all of our Windows customers. Use the Update Manager to confirm that you have a base line called "VMware Tools update to Match Host (Predefined). Attach this baseline to your virtual machines and a scanner. This will determine if your VM Tools are up to date.

Yes I agree, VMware have misled us on their VM without tools do not reboot!

Is it possible to change the settings for VMWare tools?

We have just upgraded all hosts in ESXi Release 5.1. Virtual machines are updated with the latest VMware tools & upgraded to the latest Version of hardware.

We find that there is no option for us to change VMware Tools option (like: with ESX Server time synchronization). We wonder if we can change these settings and how.

one	On the homepage of the vSphere Client, select models and virtual computers, and click the Update Manager.
b	Select a virtual machine or a container object in the inventory.
c	Click settings to upgrade VMware Tools.
d	In the upgrade settings window change VMware Tools, select the check boxes for the virtual machines that you want to activate the VMware Tools upgrade on the feeding cycle.
e	Click on apply.

Check and update the tools during the feeding cycle

one	Right click on an object in the inventory of vSphere, then select change settings.
b	In the Options tab, click VMware tools.
c	In the Advanced section, check the box and strengthen tools during power cycling checkbox.
d	Click OK.

Installation on Ubuntu Linux 9.04 VMWare tools

I've just updated Ubuntu Linux 9.04, and when I start the VM in VM Ware Fusion on my MacBook Pro I get a message saying that VMware Tools are not installed. Everything works fine, I just got the message. I clicked on install VMWare tools, but he opens a folder with a bunch of files, and I'm not particularly Linux savvy (I'm familiar with the basics of UNIX in OS X, but not Linux).
Could someone help me get the VMWare tools updated on Linux?
