VMware Workstation 8 - can't share a VM

Hello

I just installed VMware Workstation 8 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 64-bit (I've had beta of VMware Workstation 8 and I uninstalled it before this new facility).

The problem is that I can't share a virtual machine more. This feature is used to work but in the beta...

Here is the message I get when trying to share the virtual machine (Edition-> Preferences-> sharing VMs):

VMware Workstation cannot connect to the server of workstation

I checked VMWare Workstation Server service and it is not started. I tried to start it manually (I also tried to change the account) but without success. I'm constanthy get:

Windows could not start VMWare Workstation Server on the Local computer. For more information, see the system event log.

I have in the Application event log:

Would be blocked by an access protection rule (rule is in warning mode) (Virtual Machine Protection: prevent modification of VMWare Server files and settings).

In the system event log, I have:

The VMware Workstation Server service stopped with error 4294967295 (0xFFFFFFFF) special service.

Please notify.

Kind regards

Thanks for the link of the Tejas article, I don't understand however why do I need to reinstall Workstation 8? Can you please explain?

Could you try anyway?  There is always the possibility that there could be bugs in the installer that caused the service not be installed and configured properly.

In addition, when you try to start the service, could check to see if a file pass-# .log is created in the %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\hostd? (Since you were able to run the beta version on this system before, make sure you check the timestamps.)

  • The upgrade from VMware Workstation 12: can I install above?

So I just bought a license to upgrade to workstation 12. Now, I noticed that it is (finally) 64-bit native. However, 11 Workstation is native 32-bit. Can I just install VMware Workstation 12 top like I did the upgrade from 10 to 11? Because the 10 and 11 were native 32-bit.

    The question is moot.
Upgrade has always meant uninstall the old version, install the new version.
If you do it yourself, you have more control, but the results will be the same.

The safest option is: uninstall manually - reboot - check registry for services that have not been removed - if necessary, repair registry - restarts again and then install the new version right after the restart.

  • Issue of license VMware Workstation and VMplayer

    Hi all:

Can anyone help to answer this question.  Thank you in advance.

I have a valid license of VMware Workstation 9, can VMware Workstation and the VMplayer separately install on two computers and use them in business environment?

The VMware Player delivered in the Installation of VMware Workstation is not separable from the installation of VMware Workstation or VMware Workstation license.  If you want to run VMware Player by itself then you must download the VMware Player installer, which installs only VMware Player not VMware Workstation.  You cannot cut files VMware Workstation installed between two systems.  So if you want to use it commercially you must buy a license of VMware Fusion!

I hope that now this is clear enough for you to grab!

  • Windows under Vmware Workstation 7 8

    Hello

With Vmware Workstation 8, can I create a virtual machine in which I could you Installer Windows 7?

Thanks in advance if anyone has any experience of this.

    Kind regards

Yes, sure, no problem. And if you go on the Compatibility Guide ( http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility ), you're looking for in the guest operating system section, pay the proceeds Workstation with Windows 7 as OS name of family, you will find that Windows 7 and SP1, 32-bit or 64-bit are supported on WS 8.0. Also, if you create a new virtual machine, you can choose Windows 7 as guest operating system. It is the proof that it works.

After you change the configuration file. I started the Esxi server. But when booting, it shows lmdriver failed to load. When I tried to configure the Exsi network, the back always prompt to reset the default settings of the network. Then I searched the internet, I found this machine NIC not to support Esxi. Is there a way to configure the Microsoft loop back adopter or any virtual adopter for esxi? So that I can install several esxi server on a single machine on vmware workstation and can be communicate with each other.

With VMware Workstation 7 you should not need to manually configure the .vmx file. Create a new custom virtual machine and select ESX as the guest operating system. This will configure the virtual material suitable as an E1000 network adapter...

  • vSphere VMware Workstation - is it possible?

I remember reading blog Mike Lavericks vSphere running with respect in an another ESX - there ran very well. My hypothesis is that the NDA to vSphere is over and someone can answer all the questions running vSphere as a virtual machine and so all guests can be run from there VMware Workstation in vSphere?

It would be very happy to be able to run a cluster of vSphere ESX from VMware Workstation you can currently with 3.5 for the etc test

For those who are interested in Mike's blog - http://www.rtfm-ed.co.uk/?p=1049

    Thank you!

    Yes, it is possible.

    I've got 2 copies of ESX 4.0, 1 ESX 3.5 U2, 1 XP VM, DC 1, & 1 vCenter server running on my desktop...

Just make sure that you have a processor with Intel VT or AMD - V and have it turned on in the bios.

  • Old PITA bread - change the MAC address in VMware Workstation 6.5?

Some versions of VMware Workstation enabled to manually set the MAC address of the virtual card.

This possibility has been changed for several reasons.

My personal opinion is clear.  A virtual machine needs to reflect as much as possible a hardware machine.

VMware Workstation you can not change the MAC address, or you are related to a limited possibility, were the first hex addresses are fixed,

so that it shows on the outside, it is a virtual machine.  VMware response is, you must run the server edition.  Well...

Currently, I have seen, that the recent version of Virtual Box allows you to manually enter the MAC address

for the virtual Interfaces based on Intel NIC. You can enter any MAC address, including existing material, NIC Intel MAC.

So my opinion, the possibility of lock-out to COMPLETELY change the mac address of the virtual machine,

must be activated again for all versions of VMware, as it is the option with other software.

HM?  As far as I know, we have not added any restrictions.  We do not provide a user interface for it, but manually modifying the .vmx file and change ethernet0.addressType and ethernet0.address to a MAC from another provider address seem to work for me.

I don't think the static MAC addresses are actually limited to the 00:50:56 range.

    Hello

Since I've upgraded to a trial version of VMware Workstation 7.0.1 I can't connect to a share on a virtual (WinXP SP3) computer. The host operating system is WinXP SP3. I get the error "error system 64. The specified network name is no longer available. »

My virtual machines have been created with Workstation 5.5.8 with which he had no problems with access to actions on the virtual machines.

I can ping the virtual machine from the outside and I can access shares from inside the virtual machine on other machines (physical).

It is therefore no problem of connectivity.

I disabled all firewall (host and VM) without success.

The only thing I did was to upgrade to 7.0.1 5.5.8. A modified in any configuration.

How can I do my actions work with 7.0.1?

  • Can I access physical disks inside VMware Workstation?

    Hey there,

I'm curious to know if it is possible to access the physical hard drives within a real operating system.  Lets say I am running Windows XP inside VMware workstation and I have an additional physical hard drive installed in my computer (we'll call it E drive in the operating system of the host that is Windows Vista).

I want to access drive E in the virtual Windows XP for storage space.  Is it possible to do?

    Now suppose another scenerio,

I have drive G in my host OS and it contains all sorts of delicious data I want to see the inside of my virtual Windows XP and maybe even add some other delicious from within the virutal OS files.  Is this also possible?

Thanks in advance, I did a lot of research and could not find anything regarding these issues.

The answer is Yes.  Under the parameters of the virtual machine, you can add, and then select the physical disk, and choose the drive to mount.  It's good if you have a physical drive side that does not use the computer itself.

Now if you want to just copy or move files 1-2 here and there in your physical machine to the virtual, you can still drag and drop between two desktop computers.  Another great way to transfer files is to do it via network shares.  I wouldn't ride the host o/s of hard disk to the virtual machine to a few files and then just pull...

  • Fatal error VMware Workstation: (svga) Exception 0xc0000005 (access violation) - VMware keeps crashing and our controls engineer was not able to understand, can someone help to solve?

So I'm a summer at a paper factory and my boss, the engineer of controls has not been able to understand why VMware Workstation on a certain laptop hangs. I tried to create the log file I see posted the number of threads, but what I have is a compressed file which doesn't seem to have the info I've seen... or at least not in the same format. So I'm a complete newbie to VMware, and I searched the knowledge base and could not find any direct matches, at - it ready to help a newb? Really appreciate it and it would really help me as far as my training goes. TQ ahead!

  • Can't build the kernel Linux in VMware Workstation 7.0 modules

Hi, I have VMware Workstation 7.0 installed on a Fedora 20 x86_64 system, and I can't get past the 'install' kernel modules I looked around, but and I tried some things but none have worked. Is there anyone here who knows how to create and load the modules in the kernel for my system. The kernel is 3.13.8 - 200.fc20.x86_64 - x86_64.

    Thank you

Fedora is not a host operating system support however is not officially supported and may / will this market are separate things.

I have VMware Workstation 10 running under Fedora 20 on the stock kernel however the core of 3.13.x is not yet supported on supported OS host and modules need to be patched.

VMware Workstation 7 is probably to old for work, unless you can find patches of third parties to the versions of core and WS.

  • Vmrun can be used to remotely control the vmware workstation?

    Hello

I have VMWare WorkStation installed 10.0.1 on a Windows machine 7 Professional 64-bit. I created a few virtual machines using this workstation. Can I control these virtual machines from another machine (say Windows7 another machine or machine Ubuntu) using vmrun?

I went through the help of vmrun and some discussions on the forums, but all the current point of execution vmrun against a local workstation or a remote server.

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Ravi

It looks like VC ESXi and VMware Server (discontinued) are what can be managed remotely.

I just ssh into the host and run vmrun like that.  On a host Windows use OpenSSH for Windows.

  • How can I change default location VM VMware Workstation via Group Policy or to a Script?

    Hello

I administer a laboratory of my school networking in a Windows Server 2008 R2 environment. We want to enable folder redirection but since VMware Workstation creates new virtual machines by default in the C:\Users\Username\Documents\Virtual Machines, I can't do this, or else the NAS would be overloaded.

My question is, is there a file registry or config that I could change via a script or a political group? In this way, all students would default their VM install to another location.

    Thanks for your time.

The default location is %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Virtual Machines and is not set in the registry of Windows or the disk file until the default is changed and is then defined in the file %APPDATA%\VMware\preferences.ini as: prefvmx.defaultVMPath = "FQP.

  • 2.04 Ubuntu comments on VMware Workstation 9 under Win7 can't see ext4 USB drive

Comments from 2.04 Ubuntu on VMware Workstation 9 under Win7: on computer A trivially, I connected to an out-of-the-box 64 GB USB drive formatted for VFAT on Ubuntu in a VM. I re-init'ed the player for ext4 (mkfs.ext4), mounted, drop a bunch of stuff on him (which took awhile), he dismounted and walked away. The next day, identically configured computer B, I inserted the USB key. Natch, Win7 may not go up because it does not ext4. But Ubuntu don't see either, so I can't be installed. Do not see under removable devices, no small icon bottom left of the screen of VMware, nothing in the settings menus or properties, etc. I think it's just me being a noob to VMware, but it seems that Ubuntu under VMware Workstation 9 cannot see the drive unless Win7 can go up. Seems unlikely. KB searching, Googling, etc. produce many unrelated things. Ideas? AdvTHANKSance.

Here is the final answer: works great on an earlier version of VMware Workstation 9 on one of the Windows 7 of my client machines, it didn't work on my Windows 7 computer. I upgraded to VMware Workstation 10 on my Windows 7 computer, and now it works perfectly. If I call you this a bug in this version later 9 which was set at 10. Could also be had I simply uninstalled 9 and reinstalled which would have fixed it too. But I'll never know.
