VMware workstation cannot use my ram

When I try to start a virtual computer it tells me that there is not enough available ram, I should lower my vm settings to use only 40 megabytes. WS is configured to use only physical RAM. and host has 32GB, 9% of which is currently used.

Anyone had this problem before? should I (buy) open a support ticket? is there another way to attract the attention of vmware that does not involve buying a support ticket?

Thank you!

Try to upgrade to 10.0.5 Workstation.  The problem you are experiencing should be fixed by a change to the 10.0.4 Workstation: VMware Workstation 10.0.4 Release Notes

It should not be necessary to remove the Microsoft update more.

See you soon,.

  • Deploy the OVF template in VMWare Workstation 10 using ovf tool

    Hi all

    I just started to explore the ovf tools. I have an ovf template available for a virtual computer and I was able to deploy in workstation using the GUI.

    Is there a way / command available to use this model of pre-existing .ovf and deploy a virtual machine in the workstation using this; ovf tool?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    What you can do is to use the ovftool to create a local virtual machine, and then open it in VMware Workstation.

    You can find ovftool.exe - examples of help running command line options

    Example: ovftool - tt = vmx c:\ovfs\my_vapp.ovf c:\vms\

    What you're trying to convert?  The physical Linux machine, perhaps?  If Yes, then the only destination supported VC/ESX, you can't P2V directly at the workstation.

  • VMware Workstation 8 - can't share a VM

    Hello

    I just installed VMware Workstation 8 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 64-bit (I've had beta of VMware Workstation 8 and I uninstalled it before this new facility).

    The problem is that I can't share a virtual machine more. This feature is used to work but in the beta...

    Here is the message I get when trying to share the virtual machine (Edition-> Preferences-> sharing VMs):

    VMware Workstation cannot connect to the server of workstation

    I checked VMWare Workstation Server service and it is not started. I tried to start it manually (I also tried to change the account) but without success. I'm constanthy get:

    Windows could not start VMWare Workstation Server on the Local computer. For more information, see the system event log.

    I have in the Application event log:

    Would be blocked by an access protection rule (rule is in warning mode) (Virtual Machine Protection: prevent modification of VMWare Server files and settings).

    In the system event log, I have:

    Thanks for the link of the Tejas article, I don't understand however why do I need to reinstall Workstation 8? Can you please explain?

    Could you try anyway?  There is always the possibility that there could be bugs in the installer that caused the service not be installed and configured properly.

    In addition, when you try to start the service, could check to see if a file pass-# .log is created in the %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\hostd? (Since you were able to run the beta version on this system before, make sure you check the timestamps.)

  • VMware Workstation is unable to open one of the virtual disks required by this virtual machine because it is larger than the maximum file size supported by the host file system.

    I'm transitioning from Windows XP (64-bit) on a new computer with Windows 7 installed.  I undertook to VMWare Workstation 6 7.0.1 in the process.  The problem is with a very large RAID 5 volume on the new system.  It's a score of 5.45 TB (TPG and NTFS).

    When I try to start a virtual machine on this volume, I get the message "VMware Workstation cannot open one of the virtual disks required by this virtual machine because it is larger than the maximum size of the files supported by the host file system.".  This is obviously not true.  If I copy the virtual machine to another drive on the system, it starts without a problem.

    Anyone have any ideas on how to work around this problem?

    try to add this line in the vmx file:

    diskLib.sparseMaxFileSizeCheck = "false".

    Maybe it helps.

    VMDK-type do you use?

    monolithicSparse? -C' is the only part type more?

  • Snapshot fails on VMWare Workstation 11 Pro

    Hello

    I have created a virtual machine on VMWare Workstation 11 Pro with Windows Server 2008 R2 and baptized "HYP". When I'm trying to take a snapshot, I get the following message:

    VMware Workstation cannot find the virtual disk 'G:\YP.vmdk '. Check that the path is valid and try again.

    The system cannot find the specified file

    Cannot open disk 'G:\HYP-000001.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.

    Necessary to the VM to suspend operation and the VM could not continue to run.

    After that I click OK in the message box that precedes, the virtual computer turns off and then I can turn it on again - I get the following message:

    File not found: YP.vmdk

    This file is required to power on this virtual machine. If this file has been moved, specify the new location.

    Note that I might be able to on and off this machine virtual without problem before I tried to take the snapshot.

    How is that possible I could have it fixed?

    Thank you very much!

    I found where it was. When I was creating this virtual machine, I indicated the location for the new virtual machine as any new drive G. After I had removed this virtual machine and created a new in 'G:\FolderName', the new virtual machine begins to create fine snapshots.

    It is important to specify the folder (not just a new drive letter) as the location for the new virtual machine.

  • How to set an MTU of 1600 for test Lab at home for the NSX on Vmware workstation

    Hello.

    I'll set up a laboratory at home to build a laboratory to the NSX. I am running 3 on VMware Workstation 11 Esxi hosts. All three hosts of esxi run each 4 Ethernet adapters on them.

    To configure installation VXlan for my lab at home, I have modified the virtual machine's .vmx file and changed the vmxnet3 device and it works.

    Ethernet1. ConnectionType = "custom".

    Ethernet1.virtualDev = "e1000".

    Ethernet1.wakeOnPcktRcv = "FALSE".

    Ethernet1. AddressType = 'generated '.

    ethernet2.virtualDev = "vmxnet3" - change to vmxnet3

    Adapter type VMxnet3 only is not supported for VMware workstation and also one of my hosts broke down several times with the low error message in the log file.

  • Can you teach VMware WorkStation to attach NOT some devices to a virtual computer?

    What I find more tedious with VMware workstation (I use v9) is, it still attaches automatically * all * USB devices being plugged in while that VM Workstation automatically runs in a virtual computer.

    On my laptop work/computer workstation I frequently have a VM open for long periods while developing and testing programs. In the meantime, devices all USB (USB, security tokens, my cell phone keys, etc.) I plug are automatically attached to the VM without asking. However, I want to be attached to the host, which is the main system. Only when they show up there for more than half a minute or so after plugging the, I usually realize that they * new * have been connected to the virtual machine, then I neeed to detach and their connection to the host instead manually.

    I find it ANNOYING! Can't you teach WorkStation to memorize these settings and automatically connect devices, which were previously attached to some VM or at least ask me?

    M.

    This may not indicate all the scenarios, but it of a place to start, have a look on: disable the AutoConnect USB devices

  • How to disable the server of VMware Workstation share

    How to disable the sharing of VMware Workstation Server using a configuration of the registry or configuration file. I have several workstations on the network that has VMware workstation 8.0.4 install and I need to turn off sharing for all users. This function is located in preferences/Shared VMs.   I need to be able to adjust this setting to disable remote. The host computers using windows xp. Any help will be appreciated.

    It depends how you are going to access various systems is however here two options that you can include in any method you choose.  We need to create a. CMD file and the other is to use just one. REG file.

    The command Disable_VMwareHostd.cmd of Script can be as simple as:

    net stop VMwareHostd
    reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\VMwareHostd /v Start /t REG_DWORD /d 00000004 /f

    The Disable_VMwareHostd.reg file would be:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\VMwareHostd]
    "Start"=dword:00000004

    Note: Always two empty lines at the end of the .reg file.

    The syntax of the command to execute would be:

    regedit /s Disable_VMwareHostd.reg

    Note that just by using a .reg file, you must always stop the VMwareHostd Service, so I would opt for the use of the method of Script command as it will stop the VMwareHostd Service and turn it off at the same time.

    I still have my put networks in place to be able to (with authentication) execute commands remotely and or push the or the files that are necessary to achieve the objective.  In a case like this, when I had hundreds of systems to change I write a binary executable to fix the problem, which would automatically run when the user logged on to the domain, but if you don't have programming skills so then using a Script command and or file Reg can / will do the job.

  • Cannot open a Workstation 6 image, last used in Workstation 6.5, now in VMware Workstation 6

    An update of the firmware could certainly help.  After you install the update of the firmware, it can be useful following the instructions from the motherboard to reset the firmware configuration by default (if its configuration is not too heavily customized) and then reconfigure with custom settings, you might need.  Check that you have disabled in your TXT firmware settings too... who's going to stop us from using the capabilities of VT - x from the host.  And, where there is doubt, the error message is not really pleasant on cyclical food... Some systems cannot put a change of configuration of VT - x into force without being truly disconnected from power for a while, so if in case of doubt, he put it off and remove the power outlet for a few seconds.

    Your CPU is certainly capable of VT - x and support all the VT - x features required by VMware Workstation... Simply to force the system to allowing the use of VT - x and then it should start to work well.

  • using the VMware workstation 100% disc

    Hi all

    I have amd multi-purpose 8350 with 12 GB of ram and 1 TB hard drive (no ssd). I created a few 10 vms and when I try to start few of them suddenly disk use increases to 100%. I turn them all at the same time, I give some time between each vm poweron. Always the same problem occurs. In addition, even after some time, after activating my vms, same problem occurs. on my windows host computer, the use of the disc is 100% most of the time. because of this my vmware workstation crashes and I am not able to do anything. I have to wait until the use of the disc is free again. I disabled windows search on my host machine, but no luck.

    I added the lines on all my machines virtual vmx files but no use.

    MemTrimRate = '0 '.

    mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE".

    sched.mem.pshare.Enable = "FALSE".

    prefvmx.useRecommendedLockedMemSize = 'TRUE '.

    Can someone help me out here?

    Thank you

    Hi Shawn,

    Thank you for your response...

    At start-up, if it's slow, it's fine. But it happens all of a sudden, even when I'm working. When it freezes, I can't do anything. Just count numbers to kill some time... I have to wait until he's back to normal and I donno when it happens.

    While I was looking on the internet, someone posted on an Internet site that disabling superfetch-bit, and windows update services can reduce disk performance. I'm 100% sure they are stopped on my windows host computer. So, I disabled the. But I was really surprised to see the performance of disk after I disabled the services. Now, I have a lag for a few seconds and that occurs only when I start the vms system. After that they are running no problem at all. I donno why a stopped service would cause such an impact. Subsequently, if I do not have a service, I turn it off, turn it off.

    Finally, after you turn off the 3 services, I have no problem.

    Thank you

    Chaitanya.

    Hi akpraveenand welcome to the VMware communities!

    Your laptop has Avast! Antivirus installed?  We have seen some recent reports of Avast! origin of the failure you see there.  If you have Avast! installed, you will need to uninstall temporarily to be able to install VMware Workstation (disabling Avast! is not enough).

    If you use another system antivirus or antimalware software, it may be interesting to try to disable it during the installation of VMware Workstation.

    Let us know if that solved the problem for you!
