WAG54G v2 faulty LAN

It seems there is a very common problem with these models works very well for a period and then for no apparent reason the wired ethernet ports stop working. I had 4 devices connected for 2 years without problem until last week when none of the devices would connect with no changes made somehow. Worked for a minute then nothing. It's obviously a hardware problem (component manufacturing/MTBF default) as the lights on the router ports do not come on (only on the initial power of the port test), or isn't on any network devices - they always have, but no more. If this were not the case, then surely a FW version could fix.

What does not seem work evolves unit setting of the Auto - 10 MB/s speed & duplex half. It is said in many places, even by Cisco as acceptable work around... WHAT? All right, now it connects but no more transfers of video, not bigger files continuously, no longer full speed ethernet. Not good enough!

(Mod Note: not fired off topic.)

This isn't a problem of firmware it is a defective hardware problem. I did everything what the consumer can do to remedy this but as I have since found this very common problem is caused by a faulty capacitor on the device. Since then, I've replaced the defective hardware and everything works as it should.

I would recommend this difficulty to all those who still have a little know how with a soldering iron. Very quick, simple, and this MARKET. I hope that this message is not also edited or deleted because it can be useful to many customers Cisco/Linksys there also well suffer that.

Here is a link that I found for a portico on what to do, I'm lazy to do the maximum, so here you go:

  • Tecra R850 - Port Replicator problem - no lan at startup

Hey guys I have a strange bug with a laptop computer Toshiba Tecra R850 customers with the port replicator. He is 8 months old.

Almost every morning when the client connects to the laptop computer to the Port Replicator port and power and the Windows 7 Desktop on startup it does not create a "LAN" connection (external monitor & USB works well through the Port Replicator).

I have to get the customer to power the laptop off, disconnect the port replicator, disconnect the electric power from the port replicator and then plug everything back in and re - turn on the laptop.

Here's what I've ruled out so far:
Port replicator: Replicator port, I've replaced with another unit of users (exact same model), same problem.
Directly connected LAN: if I connect the LAN directly (i.e. remove the duplicator) I have no problem with the LAN/Internet connection.

Here is the part number of the laptop and the dock:
    Tecra R850: PT520A-01N003
    Port Replicator II: PA3916A-1PRP

Any ideas? Could this be a faulty stowage on the phone port?

    Kind regards
    Aaron

    Hello

Don t think its faulty docking port because in this case other ports Port Replicator would not work

I think its problem of system have you tested with costs recovered system port replicator?
Would certainly be worth a try

  • Express Port Replicator II and Tecra A10 - 12Z - only the power and LAN

Since my Toshiba T3600CT I received with docking station, I discovered that I have a docking station. In the meantime, I had a small Sony who had no docking station, for which I got one of the first USB docking station and since then I've seen always to get laptops with docking station.

But this time something went really wrong, the Toshiba Express Port Replicator II PA3680E-2PRP provides only power and LAN. There is no power in the USB ports, so no serial port or the sound, and DVI and VGA are also disabled.

All these ports work fine on the Tecra A10, but not on the docking station.

Of course, it is nice to have the power and LAN, but not when I expected too much of everything.
So I was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem, it is like upgrading the BIOS for me who have not installed all the necessary software, or is it a fuse or something I could fix myself or is it a faulty docking that shouldn't have left the factory?

    Hello

What's your Tecra pre-installed with original recovery image?

When the laptop is preinstalled with recovery image simply connect compatible laptop Toshiba docking station and all the devices connected to the docking station will be recognized correctly and all available ports should work fine.
Is that a Port Replicator basically "replica" ports on the laptop.

On this virtual path, we cannot say that this port is 100% OK. What can you say about it? you bought is used a?

If the green light of LAN port lights if a cable is connected to the port LAN work physically so I doubt s faulty.

The network adapter is in the Device Manager correctly and have you tried a driver update?

I thought that WAKE ON LAN is disability, and my Bluetooth does not work.
I go to Toshiba Bluetooth programs and not work

    Can anyone help me?.
    Thank you

    Hello

    > Recently the support from Toshiba has replaced my motherboard
In my opinion, you should get in touch with the guys from service again once who replaced / fixed on your laptop.
The laptop should work properly once the service has replaced a faulty part. If it s not the case, you guys should check once again!

I put t know what card WLan do you currently use, but AFAIK the original build in WiFi card was Intel and this wireless network adapter supports BT as well.

So I think you should ask the guys once again unites what s wrong with you

  • The WAG54G v1.2 firmware update

I have a WAG54G ver 1.2, 4 port eth + adsl wireless router.  The last update of the firmware on the support download site is Ver.1.02.1 from 18/05/2004, which is ridiculous! (details here: http://linksysbycisco.com/EU/en/support/WAG54G/download)

It comes to the NVA, that I installed it on the router and the lt does not have same setting of WDS, so unit is more or less useless.

I checked the alternatives open source (wrt line), but they are all with WAG54G V2 and no support previous models v1 and v1.2

I need to somehow pass this router to something functional.  I checked the page of GPL code as well and while ls there a WAG54g list, I think that itd for V3 routers.  So the question is:

1 is usable on v1.2 source GPL code (I guess not)

    2. suggestions for a WDS on the router (including beta / alpha firmware) is appreciated.

Even the GPL code will not help you because often, it does not include modem etc drivers who are not GPL depending on the brand and the pilot.

Another good reason not to get these combos of modem/router but get a simple simple modem with a router ethernet standard that you can use on any access technology...

I can't talk about beta firmware. At least as far as I know even more recent E4200 does not support WDS with all other brands as Linksys. And you can be sure that they will not add anything to the WAG54G. It's all just too old.

WDS has nothing to do with the routing. WDS extends the LAN inside the network local, there are only ethernet and MAC addresses. The routing is only between routers.

What is so complicated: it's complicated. You repeat traffic. Access points must include any traffic for repeat and which is not, which means that they must find the topology. WDS severely effects of bandwidth. WDS often only works with WEP (or static, anti-rotation key WPA). Do a little reading in the internet...

As it was not standardized how to handle questions from topologies you will often find that a Repeater works with a gateway of the same brand. A WDS would be possible with the same brand devices

  • Must configure WAG54GS as static IP of no. - NAT router

I have a WAG54GS and I also have a Linksys firewall device, separate units.

My PC are behind the Linksys firewall that has a port WAN1 allowing plug a router device.

Currently the WAG54GS is factory with NAT and active firewall settings.

I want to use this device as a router with phew tirned NAT and firewall disabled and LAN IP even as the WAN IP routers.

Having a hard time trying to figure out how to proceed.

Following the basic guide of Linksys, but this doesn't seem to work.

I have 8 account no. - NAT IP

Have configured article RFC 1483 routed and changed routers LAN IP to match the WAN IP routers.

But it doesn't seem to work.

The Linksys firewall is everything is OK, as I have here another Zyxel router configured the same way and that working with the firewall OK.

Anyone know if it is actually possible to do it on this model or not.

Also it doesn't seem to be anywhere in the connection user name and the password under the RFC 1483 screen, someone knows why this is? all other routers I have sections to enter the user name and password even on static connections.

All in all it looks like a bit of a strange fish

    > However, in this case, your ISP must automatically assign the correct static IP address based on the user name > and password. For example, to configure PPPoA with your user name and password and check whether it connects or not and > what you get the IP address. If it works properly you can use. If it does not work or does not connect, then you cannot use > the WAG.

Well well... waddyah know, it works!  Why can't I thought... especially because I followed the advice on the website.

They should update for customers in the United Kingdom may be...

Thanks a lot again once, configure everything and work a treat!

    Jim.

  • Connect WAG200G and WAG54GS to create the DMZ?

    Hello

Hope this is the right place for this question.

I have a WAG200G and a WAG54GS. I would like to connect routers to another, each of them would be on a different subnet, creating a DMZ on 192.168.1. *. Or the other could serve as the "internet" router i.e.

    INTERNET <-->ROUTER1 (192.168.1.1) <--LAN-->ROUTER2 (192.168.0.1)

    |                                                                    |

    DMZSERVER (192.168.1.2) PC1 (192.168.0.2)

Is this possible? I can't find a "internet connection type" on each router that says 'just use ROUTER1 for your internet connection.

    Thanks in advance

    Laurent

You can replace one of the ADSL router with a normal linksys router as WRT54GS, WRT320N WRT54G2, WRT160N... And then you can the two router cascading and create two different subnet.

  • Trying to connect a computer to the lan port Aiport Express "auto assigned IP address"

I am trying to connect a computer to the lan on my Airport Express port. In preferences, it says "status: connected, Ethernet has an assigned IP address and won't be able to connect to the internet." Any suggestions?

An "auto assigned" IP address indicates that your computer could not find or negotiate with a DHCP server to obtain an IP address appropriate for network access.

It should be more on your network to provide assistance if you need it. For example, is the terminal of AirPort Express the only router in the current configuration of your network? What exact model do? What is the brand and model of your modem Internet?

  • Problem with LAN Express airport

    Hello

I recently bought an Apple AirPort Express router and I have several problems using the Ethernet with the most active airport. The thing is with my old router, I could have been connected to the ethernet cable, while at the same time connected with a LAN cable to my Macbook (end of 2015). The old router would have generated a wifi connection, but at the same time, would have enabled internet connection by cable to my Macbook without the active WiFi. People could use WiFi at home, but the Macbook would be connected to the internet by cable (lan cable connected to the router)

My question is how to turn on a cable connection on my Macbook using the AirPort Express LAN cable, while at the same time, keep WiFi active. Currently, I have the ethernet cable connected to the airport and cable Lan also connected to the airport and the Macbook, but the internet will not work unless the WiFi is active. I would like to turn off the WiFi on the Macbook and always have an internet connection through the LAN cable that is connected between the AirPort Express device and Macbook.

    Thank you

My question is how to turn on a cable connection on my Macbook using the AirPort Express LAN cable, while at the same time, keep WiFi active.

Is the Terminal AirPort Express the only router in the current configuration of your network? No matter, what is the brand and model of the modem Internet you have the Express directly connected by Ethernet? ... or is the Express connected by Wi - Fi to the modem?

  • If 2 Airport extreme can stay connected to each other using their LAN ports?

    Hello friends,

I would like to know if 2 Airport extreme or 1 Airport Extreme and Airport Express can stay connected to each other using LAN ports at the ends? I thought this is the LAN port 1 connected to the WAN port on the 2nd.

    Thank you

To clarify the issue and the scenario, one of my friend described a typical scenario in which there are 2 AEs. AE1 has an ISP in its port WAN and AE2 has a different ISP in its WAN port. This 2 AE can mutually connected between them by using ports LAN AE1 and AE2 ethernet cable? He said this could be feasible if AE2 remained in bridged mode, without using the ISP attached to its WAN port. I just don't get how this is possible. Friends of the search help.

  • iPhone 5 use with w - lan only?

Hello, it is possible to use the iphone 5 without sim, with w - lan only? For the first installations, later with the sim card? IPhone 4 doesn't work without a sim card. Thank you

You will need to have a sim card in the phone to activate when first implemented, after that you can remove the sim card and use it with wifi only.

  • The LAN on an Express port still works as a LAN port when in mode "extend the Wi - Fi network"?

Assuming that the current versions of all units in the airport:

If you have an extreme as your primary access point, and you have an Express "extend a Wi - Fi network" mode, the LAN on the Express port still works as a LAN port?

Yes. You can connect any Ethernet device to that port.

  • WIRELESS and wired LAN do not know each other

My internet provider installed a new cable modem, without capacity WIFI because I have an airport extreme base WIFI (with cable Express extensions).  Speed and quality are OK, wireless and wired, but there seems to be a wall of China between WIFI and wired (LAN): devices that are connected via a cable to my LAN are not visible from the wireless network and vice versa.  Airport extreme is not 'Bridge' mode ("because not of wireless on the new modem capability".)

No idea of the reasons for this?  Thank you very much

Sounds like the configuration of the device. With the airport devices it can operate as a device on the network or another firewall as its own network. I think that it is way jumpered to activate, this will allow you to configure the wireless on the airport, but your current router will do the DNS/DHCP and will be a single network.

Now that you have configured as two routers on an independent network as there is no bridge.
