  I was recently contacted by someone who claims to be from microsoft call center informing me that my computer had downloaded a malicious file and was asked to press the windows key and type remove in the Run dialog box and he would show me what file was infected and how to remove and or difficulty it was it a legitimate call?

  Its a scam.  A well known and long-lasting.  Microsoft will never ask you for personal information (they already have them) and you never call cold.  Nor do they send messages of anti virus - and they do not have to connect to your machine.  NEVER allow anyone to connect remotely to your machine.

  Where he was calling from. (He studdered and stammered a few places, but never completely answered.)

  After that, I hung up on him, and he won't stop bothering me. Now, in all my years of having a computer and my computer spoil on me not a widows nobody called me to inform me what it is. I always had to call them, which is reasonable. I want to know if it is legitimate, which I doubt, and if I can understand how he got my phone number if I can keep someone else to do.

  Unless you have a contract to support prepaid with Microsoft, Microsoft doesn't call you, email you, or snail mail you about problems with your PC.

  I would certainly follow the advice of John John, because we do not know what happened when your wife has visited the Web site. By the way, I suggest you also change your password, sign in to your office computer and passwords associated with banking online, networking sites etc..
