Was it a scam?

I'm trying to find out if the Boss Tech is a scam? Yesterday my computer locked and a message appeared that I had a virus and call 855-602-6550.  So stupid me I did and my credit card was $200 to unlock my computer, repair and clean up the Junk! (And I have 9 months of unlimited support). It seemed legitimate. (I know I probably would have called Microsoft or someone else, but I didn't really know what to do at the time!) And I got my equipped computer, Geek Squad, last month, but I still have problems with it. Boss Tech told me that Geek Squad outsources repairs in other countries, such as the India and they don't do a good job to take all of the Junk! (Boss Tech said that I've always had messages from 2012!)  My computer seems to work better now! But I've been scammed? Or is the Boss Tech a legitimate and good company? So now what should I do? Thank you. Connie

Those are scams to steal your money.  This is a fake unlock the viruses they use to force you to pay.

Never fall for it and never give your money to someone like that.

You should contact your credit card number and immediately report the fraud.

  • scam call perhaps?

I got a call from someone who claims to tell me that my computer Microsoft did not meet an update of firewall for the past few days and that they needed me to go my computer for them to get access so that they could update my security. my instinct told me to lie to them because I think that if there was a problem my computer would tell me to contact technical support. I think it was just a scam based on the level of persistence, that they had to make me om my computer. Am I wrong? Also checked my firewall today computer and everything what is up-to-date.

    Hello

Calls unrequested telephone of this nature are almost always a common scam. Do not let them give any info, do not give access to your PC, not give them all the money and do not go to all the websites that they suggest. One moment.

  • How can I make sure I have need of aid is a legimate technician. just been scammed by someone representing as my virus protection company

pop up kept appearing on the lower right of the computer saying I had infections more 5 000.  He showed my company logo protection antivirus (AVG) and because the computer was slow and freezing I connected.  He registered a phone number to call for help.  I called, explained my problem and the man said: I'll connect you with a technician.  I specifically asked if he was in this country, and he said he was in Connecticut.  The reason I asked was because I am deaf it made it difficult to understand people with accents.  I really thought that I was speaking with moy.  After many hours remotely connected to my computer, my computer was worse than before that I called him shaped and $ 120.00.  I called AVG to complain and told me that I was probably being scammed and to check with my Bank and credit company to have all changed.  Of course, I took care of him.  The Bank assured me they would check on "GuruAid" and yesterday I received an email from them (GuruAid), say that there is no charge.

I am never in a situation like this, once again.  My question is: How can I make sure I have need of aid is a legitimate technician.  Seems many companies can fool you into believing that you talk with a legitimate business.

Easy - contact them and not the reverse; This way you can check before using.

  • If I fell for a scam?

I had some problems with my computer (Windows XP) and MS Office, when he said 'send report' when Windows displays the message screen when a program closes unexpectedly. The Microsoft Help window seems to give me options for a solution to one of them seemed to be download Speedy PC Pro, I did. After installing this program, he said that I should Phone 0800 014 8114 to activate the program, I did. and I was told that they had to go to my computer to activate the program. Very long story, but the gentleman, then crossed my computer show all "events" etc as part of the system. I find now that a company called www.safecart.com. is billing my credit account every six months automatically for the use of this program. I think the gentleman that I was talking to was actually a company called Advanced Technical Support and he was trying to talk myself into technical support full time at a huge cost. I did not buy the full maintenance of the computer and an annual cost to maintain my computer, but he said that he calls me in the new year and see if I would accept his offer?

I tried the Speedy PC Pro and it certaily doesn't seem to clean up my computer and he did run very fast - but it has not solved my problem of origin who was MS Office based. but then I had a black screen message that my computer had been extinguished to avoid serious damage - which has happened twice since. (I contacted the Tech forum).

I am parinoid about the use of the program that I've downloaded again and think I should uninstall it if it was a big scam major or a little more aggressive sales? I try to get the debit my credit card stopped. If it is a real program, I only I have a job or for a year, but not all the six months!

For questions about your credit/debit cards cards/accounts, consult your bank or other credit instrument transmitter. If you have suffered losses or damage, consult your law enforcement services.

In such circumstances, it is wise to check the system of different types of malware.

Download Windows Defender in offline mode. Use the files to create a CD, DVD or USB bootable flash-player. Available on the Web site + download instructions. Start the computer from the newly created media. Follow the prompts on the screen. He's going to do a quick scan when you first start. As a result, only doing a full scan.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/what-is-Windows-Defender-offline

Once the scan finished, exit and restart Windows.

Download Malwarebytes free version. Install it. Run a full scan.

    http://www.Malwarebytes.org/LP/malware_lp/?gclid=CK_i_sqglbQCFQSg4AodnjYAxg

(Scroll down a bit. On the left, blue "button".)

You might want to keep installed and updated. In use, you must run an analysis, since it does not run automatically.

Malwarebyte s both Windows Defender analysis will take some time.

    Tom Ferguson

    PS

Windows Defender in offline mode is not the same as the Microsoft Safety Scanner. The former works without Windows loading. Because of this, it is able to detect some types of malware that can not the Safety Scanner.

  • I received an email from my address, but not send it.

I received an email from my email address, and the text was a phishing scam. I have not clicked on anything in the message. I ran my security software and found no problem. I'd do anything else? Thank you for your help.

It is not uncommon for messages of spam and phishing to have a fake sender name and address because if you're spamming, you will not use your real information. The idea behind using your name and address as the sender, it's that you're not likely to block you.

Of course, it is always prudent to consider whether someone might have actually gained access to your e-mail account, consider changing your password, but usually it's just a case of falsification of documents.

Since then, the phone was not online more. It has been marked as lost or stolen and the police were informed.

The day before yesterday that I got 2 fake SMS messages. They looked on first sight like messages from Apple.

The text is so similar to Apple: iPhone has been located to... Please login to iCloud with your credentials.

There was also a web link in the two messages:

    www.apple.com.Ir1.at/?r=9b3b9 & S2

Because of this strange link and bad German grammar, I know that this may not be a site of Apple.

Checked with a PC via the VPN tunnel, but I typed the link just to the ".at".

The site looked exactly like an Apple site and all links open the true Apple of the Romania site.

I did not sign in and in the meantime, the site is unavailable. Maybe Apple is involved because I noticed them about the phishing attack.

    My question is:

Someone knows my cell phone number and the name of my wives ICloud ID. How is that possible?

The police are not interested to know whence came the messages of theses.

Today, I reset my own 6plus, just to check if it is possible to use it when it was stolen. Fortunately, it is not.

Is it possible to get it back? No person shall use t, so there is no need for them.

You are right does not connect to this site.

    These links may be useful:

    Apple product lost or stolen.

The text you received was a phishing scam:

    Avoid Phishing scams.

You can report it to Apple (if it was an iMessage), or your carrier (if it was an SMS):

Dealing with spam, iMessage, SMS or phone calls.

(Note that I am not affiliated with this site, and some pages contain ads).

As to how they knew that the Apple ID, they try to disable find my iPhone. When they go to the iCloud menu in the settings, the Apple ID is listed there. They sent you this message to try to get your password so it could disable find my iPhone lock Activation.

Wow... I can't believe that the police are not interested to help you find the source of the messages. If we tell them that the phone number, it should be very easy for them to track its origin.
