  Have you tried the software repair option in the Guide of the Xperia as well? If this is not the case, see if you are able to perform a repair of software.

  I would first remove Xperia companion of your PC, and then by restarting, once redownload the program, and then restart the handset.

  Try once did try a backup and let us know how you go.

  After trying to install what I thought was a software update on the Sony PC Companion 2.1 after a few failed attempts at the download my phone shut its self off and now when I turn it back on it displays a white picture and message saying "The software update failed. make sure that your phone is connected to a computer and try again" and I connot do anything else on the phone as I cannot get to the home screen. also The PC Companion no can no longer recognize my Phone this may be because in " Devices and printers" my phone is now under Unspecified but called s1 Service not as Xperia z1 under devices. I got this phone 24hours ago i'm aware that this is most probably my fault but I have no idea at what I did to cause this. any help would be very appreciated, thank you.

  Hi im using the Xperia Ray and recently Ive upgraded to ICS 4.1.B.0.431 via PC Companion.I want to root my phone n tried to use the DooMLoRD method to the root of the firmware, but I failed. Is there a way to root my phone directly without having to use new stock rom to root it because Im afraid of losing all my apps n settings in my phone currently. I want to use Titanium Backup to make a backup of them, but given that my phone is not rooted so I can't use it.

  So, if someone else has this problem, please try the method described above.

  Support staff of Sony is useless and I have to say that the level of support is terrible. If my trip can be reduced to this:

  Phone does not > software does not > Web site works not > when I finally support is useless.

  Figured it out myself but spend too many hours in the process.
