Weird noise of 8700 XPS

I noticed a weird noise with my new 8700 XPS. It is difficult to explain what it looks like so I did a short record of the noise. You can listen to it here http://picosong.com/YQgV/ and it happens at the level of the 2 second mark in audio recording.

The noise happens every 15 to 30 seconds and other times it will happen not for 3-5 minutes.

Here are the specs of the computer if that helps.

Dell XPS 8700, Intel Core i7-4770 3.4 ghz, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, Sandisk Extreme II 240 GB SSD for the OS and programs, 1 TB HDD, ram 24 GB (8 GB of Dell and 16 GB of Crucial)

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

It is the sound of the HDD heads parking. If you have a Seagate drive isn't what it is for sure, Seagate is infamous for having readers that anchor their heads noisily. My Seagate Momentus 7200.4 in my XPS L502X does this noise all the time.

    Hello

I use an iPhone 7 for 4 days now and yesterday, I, after I send a message (using iMessager, Wechat or Whatsup), I started noticing a sound weird/click tick immediately after application. That weird noise resembles a small distortion in the enclosure which happens after some noise is played.

Did anyone encounter the same problem?

    Thank you in advance.

The P2217 has the following ports = VGA/HDMI/DP video

Here is a picture of a 8700 XPS standard.

Do you see ports such as 11/12/13 on your 8700 XPS? If so, an added discreet video card has your XPS 8700. This is where the P2217 must be connected.

  • Installation of a BLU - RAY DRIVE internal in a 8700 XPS PC.

My purchase of a Dell XPS 8700 computer has arrived, and I want to install a drive internal blu - ray since mine did not come with one.

    Is this possible?

I'm a bit of a novice in computer science and I watched videos online of the people equip their computer with a blu - ray player, but none of them is featured a 8700 XPS.  Can anyone help me with instructions on how to:

    -Open the computer

-connect/install the blu - ray player?

I appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you!

    Hello

It should be possible.  The XPS 8700 should come with unused bays where the blu - ray player can be adapted.   But I must warn you that you're dealing with electronics when you do the upgrades and installs.  Please make sure that you watch videos that explain all the security requirements when it comes to the delicate pieces.

Here is the link to the manuals for the 8700 XPS.   It has both a guide and the specifications for you to review document.  Again, I strongly recommend reading the safety precautions section and "before you begin" to get a better understanding of what you need to do.

It should also be a section in the manual to know how to install a replacement disk, which will essentially be the step by step instructions.

Good luck and don't forget to follow the safety guides and installation instructions completely.

  • Upgrade of Ram card mother 8700 XPS

I bought the regular version of the 8700 XPS that came with 8 GB of ram not the 8700 XPS Special Edition.

I got contradictory information service to Dell customers on the amount of ram, the card mother the regular XPS 8700 supports. When I bought, but have read on the forum that it is only 16 GB, I said 32 GB of Dell.

Can someone confirm please the amount of ram, the card mother the regular XPS 8700 can handle? Please, I beg you.

    Hi chrisyackulic,

Dell XPS 8700 has 4 x 240 pin slots DDR3L/DDR3 SDRAM supporting the Dual Channel DDR3L SDRAM up to 1600 MHz. The XPS 8700 supports a maximum of 32 GB of system memory. If you install DDR3L, all other modules should be DDR3L (1.5 V) only.

  • Specifications of 8700 XPS is a blank PDF, the link for manuals and Documentation

A disappointment and inconvenience on the page for 8700 XPS and Documentation: http://dell.to/10AzZux , is that the 'Spécifications' link generates a blank PDF file.
I hope someone at Dell will correct this.

Thank you all for responding - tips for update browser and Adobe Flash could immediately.

However, an earlier statement, the office video Forum, including URL - 8700 escapes me as I write, was to use "Internet Explorer".    Sorry for not not to give direct credit to this employee of Dell.

Recalling their advice, I used IE on a laptop Win - XP, IT worked!

    (Version of IE 8.0.6001.18.702).

Firefox Chrome & on the same laptop Win - XP showed NOT 'Spécifications' properly, but as a blank PDF page.

Unlike other manuals, which are PDF files, on the page of 8700 XPS and Documentation: http://dell.to/10AzZux or www.dell.com/.../xps-8700, the 'specifications' are a web page with a collection of links to pages of spec of separate component, selected and displayed as separate web pages.

The operating system where I reported the problem had been Linux Ubuntu 10,04.4 with Firefox and Chrome browsers.

On the laptop Win - XP, Firefox and Chrome browsers display once again 8700 XPS as a white page PDF specifications.

The likely answer is, in my opinion, to use Internet Explorer to look at the specifications of 8700 XPS.

Thanks for your recommendations.  Next time, I'll be more precise about the Machine, OS, browser &.

For now, I want to order a 8700 XPS.

  • 8700 XPS with 460w, will this work?

    Hello

I have an 8700 XPS with 4790 I7, 8 GB ram and 1 GB of hard drive.

Recently I added a few additional things: 2.5 two hard drives, a Blu - ray burner and a MSI GeForce 960 4 GB.

My question is, will the power 460w HANDLE all these components or is it better to buy a new power supply? If it's too it would make a difference to just delete the DVDRW and keep the Blu - ray burner?

I am interested I will ruin the computer, but don't know if I know how to install a new power supply.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hum78

I have an 8700 XPS with 4790 I7, 8 GB ram and 1 GB of hard drive.

Recently I added a few additional things: 2.5 two hard drives, a Blu - ray burner and a MSI GeForce 960 4 GB.

    I think you'll be fine.

The PSU is the same model in the 8700, and who had a 660 optional GTX which has similar power to draw on the 960.

Memory, a Blu - Ray player burned a disc is about 30 watts vs a burning a DVD - RW disc is 25W, otherwise, 1 to 3 watts in mode standby, 5 - 10W reading.

3.5 "hard drives use more voltage 2.5" and most of that is when you start, but probably not more than 10W for a recent SATA vintage at the start and a few watts running.

Draw draw max graphics card will be when the games or stress test and most people are not of game and burning optical discs at the same time once again, I think you'll be fine.

  • Satellite L850 - weird noise problem (not events)

    Hello

I have a weird problem with my laptop. Since a few days, my laptop started to make a little noise from the base of the laptop.
I care because during the day I don't even notice, but now (it's 05:00)
Clearly, I hear a noise coming from the base.

It has not happened before and I don't know what could be, because the strangest thing is that, according to Toshiba Health Monitor, fan is 0% (because I'm on mode eco and do nothing to do) and the CPU is at 48th. As you can imagine, my laptop is far from heating.

Then, where this noise could come from?
Now, I know that this isn't the ventilation openings, but something inside the laptop (maybe HARD drive?)

And I'm confident in the vents because the vents start to operate when I load a movie or game, and when start knocking noise that I do not speak of persists.

It's not embarrassing, because I have to be in complete silence to hear it. As I said, I don't notice the noise when it is diurnal, and I could live with it, but not knowing this noise source makes me a bit paranoid. I bought a month ago, so I don't think that I have to clean.

    Thank you.

On this virtual path, it is not easy to tell where the noise is coming so if you want to solve this problem I think you should bring to the nearest post of Toshiba and the guy there it should check. Guarantee is valid if repairs must be free.

Can you tell us what part of your laptop is this noise?

  • Equium A200-1VO does not start and makes weird noises

My Toshiba Equium A200-1VO don't load on Windows entirely, which means I can't use it. When you turn everything goes well until the Welcome screen in Windows Vista. From there, it starts to get weird creaking and it beeps from time to time. It won't start here and these sounds do not stop.

    Help please

    Hello

Is it possible to know where the noise comes from?
As suggested by above user, it could be a HARD disk, but in this case, it would mean that HARD drive failures and he could die in the next time

You said it s begin properly until appears the window Vista would be
So maybe it s only a problem of software but I m still don t know what part of the software would create such sound however, I think that if would not be bad to reinstall the operating system in order to check the notebook with factory settings.

If this strange question would persist or if you would not be able to reinstall the operating system using the recovery disc then a hardware problem could cause this strange things and I think it means that you will need to contact the ASP in your country for a material test

  • Helmet on 8700 XPS does not

When I plug the headphones to one of the sockets on the windows XPS 8700 acknowledges that a device has been plugged on (or disconnected) the audio jack, but no device appears on the control panel "Sound".  (he has 2 NVIDIA unused inputs and speakers.) and no sound in headphones.

The speakers work fine, but no helmet.  Thanks if you can help.

Try plugging the headphones on top of the headphone plug turn instead of the back which is difficult to see and correctly identify. The top of the Tower has 2 usb ports, a microphone port and an output port helmet.

  • Installation of a new SSD for my new 8700 XPS

    Hello

    Last month, I bought a dell XPS 8700 (4790 i7, 8 GB) model of Dell.com & there a 1 TB hard drive 7200 RPM.

    Now I need to install Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB 2.5-inch SATA III internal SSD for my machine & I need your advice that follows;

    1. do I need to buy 2.5 "to 3.5" internal hard drive mounting Kit for this?

    2. do I need to buy a second cable SATA III?

    3. do I need to buy additional cables or not?

    4. What is the correct method to install Windows 8.1 this SSD?

Since I'm not a guy elected, your opinions of education / advise are much appreciated.

If the Dell backup and restore media recovery is used it will be identical to the factory with all the drivers preinstalled system installation.

There may be updates to the driver, but everything should work on the box.

    Hi Yan12345,

Yes, the ZOTAC GeForce GTX 650 Ti AMP! Edition has a configuration of power supply of 450W and based on the specifications, it should work with your system. You can see his review here for detailed information.

  • S2415H with 8700 XPS at 1920 x 1080 monitor has black border

    Hello

I hope someone can shed some light on what I am running out of ideas and more than a little frustrated.

I bought an XPS 8700 system, which came with a S2415H monitor.  I formatted the machine and re-installed with Win 8.1.  I have connected the monitor using the supplied HDMI interface but when I set the resolution 1920 x 1080 there is a black border around the screen; It seems that the screen size is too small for the monitor.  However, when I change the resolution 1600 x 900 as test the office fills the screen but the resolution is not pleasant to the eye.

I tried to install the drivers from the CD, the drivers directly from the Dell website and the latest AMD catalyst.  I don't see what I'm doing wrong and so how to fix it.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

The scaling AMD Ati Catalyst is moved to about 7.5, which causes a thick black border around all four sides of the screen.

    * Right-click on the windows desktop
    * Left click AMD Ati Catalyst Control Center or the AMD Vision Engine Control Center
    * Along the left side, you will see my digital flat panels
    * Click on it and a submenu pulls down
    * Select Options (digital flat) scale in the submenu
    * You will see a scroll to underscan and overscan bar. Check the overscan box and drag it to 0% until your screen is filled
    * Click on apply and
    -or-
    * Right-click on the windows desktop
Open the AMD Ati Catalyst Control Center
    * Switch to advanced mode
    * Click on the drop down at the top right graph
    * Select the desktop computers and screens
    * Right-click on currently active display. There is a little image of a tiny, tiny screen arrow below far left of the menu. It's this little arrow that you left-click on, and then click Configure. Then the following 6 keys will be at your disposal:
    Attributes
    Avivo color
    Scaling options
    HDTV support
    Screen LCD Overdrive
    Pixel format
    * Under attributes, check the GPU activate box scaling and image of the scale to the size of the whole screen
    * Click on apply
    * Select Configure
    * Click the scaling Options tab
    * Move the scale to the right until you get a picture full-screen 0%
