What HA refusing to try to start a virtual machine?

I'm trying just to clear on how this process works. If HA is enabled, there is a failure of the host, and he's trying to restart the virtual machines on one or several other hosts, when the host will refuse to restart (failover) a virtual machine? Assume that there is no reservation other than the default 37 MHz CPU and some booking fees calculated generals for RAM (these are the default values, right?). A host would continue to attempt to restart the virtual machines as long as there are at least 37 Mhz and a few hundred MB of RAM available for the moment he is trying to restart? And if so, there are algorithms maintains the host master to decide where to start these VMs? I just think that she should try to startups VM alternately between the available hosts and wait a little bit to make sure that there are still some available resources before you start the following, or something like that.

Also, if there is fragmentation of resources (for example, 8% of availability on each of the 15 hosts), but HA needs to start a virtual machine that requires 15% of host resources (I realize that there is a reserve in order to decide this question of the requirement, even), would automatically make migration of VMS to other hosts (if the DRS is also enabled) or he'd just sorry cannot start this virtual machine, even if the group as a whole has space for him.  [in this case, must not make large reserves because without a reservation, the virtual machine would start upward and like CPU or memory has increased its use would cause some DRS force other virtual machines out of the host, and perhaps that would work.]

vSphere 5.1 (vCenter and ESXi)

The master knows where virtual machines are running and try to balance where virtual machines are started. Reservations and overhead costs are the only things taken into account from a point of view of its use (not the actual resources consumed on a host) because HA does what VMs restarted (and if they have reserves prompting these resources, they need to have to start).

If the DRS is turned on and available, HA will work with DRS to move workloads so that the largest VMs can begin. If you have virtual machines more the thing to think about is what admission control policy you use. It may be wise to use the location function if all your virtual machines are large and close to the same size, or dedicated host of failover so you won't have to deal with shuffling DRS of workloads. Everything depends on your environment and your needs.

Does that answer your questions?

  • Unable to start the virtual machine after Migration - ESXi hosts

    Last night I wanted to move a virtual machine to a host of test to a production cluster.  All hosts (test and production) have shared access to the same LUN, so I usually am able to simply remove the virtual machines of the inventory in the test environment and add them to the production environment by accessing the .vmx on the data store file.  Two of the 3 hosts migrate perfectly and are running in the production environment.  However, the third server, while the migration starts.

    First he gave me errors that it was missing some files.  The only thing I did was different to rename the folder for the virtual machine on the data store.  It was called 'New Virtual Machine' for a reason, so I renamed it to "Antivirus."  However, something strange happened.  Instead of renaming the folder, it seems was created a new folder named "Antivirus" and the old folder 'New Virtual Machine' was still there.  In addition, the renamed folder 'Antivirus' had only SOME of the files needed.  So I just copied from the old folder in the folder "Antivirus" and he hung up the virtual disk of 20 GB file.  So I closed the VI client and checked the vdmk 20 GB folder and back this morning is in the folder with other files.  However, when I try to start the virtual machine, I get the "cannot access a file because it is locked" error message.

    I've done some detective and I noticed that in my second datastore where was the other folder vdmk, the file was now .40kB in size.  Looks like I've lost my other vdmk folder.  What happens here?

    It looks that the virtual machine was still running when you tried to change the name, so the old folder could not be renamed because of the lock. That's why a new folder has been created instead, and why your vm hung on the vmdk file until the lock has been released. Don't know what happened to the 2nd vmdk file, but the file vmware.log in virtual machine directory must have some info as to why does not start the virtual machine. If the 2nd vmdk is gone, this might be a reason.

  • Cannot start the virtual machine in a HA cluster

    I installed a HA cluster with 2 hosts configured in it.

    I disabled the admission on the cluster control.

    Each host is a Dell Dimension 9150 with 2.8 GHz CPU and 2 GB of memory.

    I created a virtual machine on a host with 1 vCPU and 512 MB memory.

    However when I try to start the virtual machine, I see the task of 'Power on a virtual machine' fail with the status "the host has sufficient memory resources to satisfy the reserve."

    Why this is happening and how do after that?

    You have the minimum RAM required by ESX ESX 4.0.

    Add more RAM to play also some virtual machines.

  • start a virtual machine at startup of windows 7 via issue of short boot cut

    Hi Experts

    I am running Win7 with 10 Workstation. I'm trying to start a VM at startup as its suppose to host my server cloud. Then I don't have to manually start the virtual machine each time.

    I put a shortcut to vmware workstation in the startup folder in the start menu. And followed the guide of the user of the WS10, excerpts below:

    Incorporate the workstation Startup Options in a Windows shortcut

    1 right click on the shortcut of the workstation and select Properties.

    2 in the target text box, add all the options to use after the vmware.exe and place the entire order

    quoted string.

    For example:

    «C:\Program VMware Workstation\vmware.exe x»

    C:\Documents and utilisateur\Mes Documents\My Me\Windows Machines\Windows Settings\nom virtual

    Me.vmx ".

    So I did the same thing, but when I put in the path to my vmx file I get an error how the target path is invalid. That's what I put:

    "C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\VMware Workstation\vmware.exe x - D:\My Documents\Virtual Machines\OwnCloud_2nd\OwnCloud_2nd.vmx.

    But when I run it as a command such as file below, it works:

    CD "C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\VMware Workstation\.

    VMware.exe - x "D:\My Documents\Virtual Machines\OwnCloud_2nd\OwnCloud_2nd.vmx"

    output

    can someone point out to me what am I doing wrong?

    Form the command as follows: "C:\Program Files (x 86) \VMware\VMware"-x "D:\My Documents\Virtual Machines\OwnCloud_2nd\OwnCloud_2nd.vmx.

    Or you can configure the virtual machine to run as a Virtual Machine shared.  Check out the VMware Workstation Documentation and or the help file.

    effect for 2 months now.

    So last night I wanted to power off of the host, while I lived my usual steps:

    (1) stop my os of burst (# shutdown - h now)

    (3) stop start vista (not "suspend" but the real stop turn off the power).

    a big deal.

    (5) this morning I tried to turn on the virtual machine and I got the 'not a virtual disk' error.

    My best guess at this point is the bluescreen stopped some write cache to be

    To do this, you would change the line vmx file

    TO

    scsi0:0. FileName = 'suse11.2_x64 - cl1 - 000035.vmdk.

    and then try to restart the virtual machine. If that works then remove all the

  • What is the best way to backup of virtual machines on a standalone ESX with the data store local

    Hello

    I want to save the virtual machines on a host ESX autonomous. and all of these virtual machines is the local data store.  What is the best way to save these virtual machines in this situation?

    And probably we don't provision VTL on the local data center, so it is possible to use VCB to backup? And VCB is a good choice compared to the traditional method that installs the backup client in each virtual machine?   Because I think that in this situation with the data store local, it cannot not reduced the load on ESX hosts and network overhead can be avoided.

    Thank you!

    LAN

    > 1. VCB usable remote tape library? I mean it's not local library and uses the tape library to another network data center.

    VCB is completely unrelated to the tape library, it is a framework, not a backup solution. If your standard backup software can work with the remote tape library you can try it to ungrateful with VCB.

    > 2. what the difference bwteen hot - added NBD and modes if there is that an ESX host with store data local and want to use a virtual machine like VCB proxy? I think that they are the same: the VCB proxy read data through the I/O of the ESX host stack in this situation.

    NBD works on network and the backup traffic goes through the service console connection. Hot add uses special machine for assistance to connect vmdk to and uses of e/s disk stack instead of e/s network.

    > 3. Veeam Backup is free software?

    No, it isn't.

  • IP not set to start the virtual machine

    Environment: ESX 4 server, hosting VMware Studio 2.0 (final version), will deploy device created in the same ESX host.

    -

    I was not yet able to determine if my wait will not, but I expected that my VM would be marketing it would have an assigned IP address already if I finish the network settings section in the build settings. But when I start my VM, it starts with IP = 0.0.0.0.

    I'm going to network Type = static and by filling in all the details for the IP, mask subnet, gateway, DNS 1 and 2. It seems that they are used when the virtual machine is in 'construction' on the host, but I'm not entirely sure about this.

    In the OVF IP assignment settings, I tried selecting OVF environment, but have not set of OVF properties (I don't think that this should be mandatory if I am already addressing in the build settings).

    After construction, into my vSphere Client (ESX4), I chose the file & gt; Deploy the template OVF... & gt; Deploy from URL and paste the URL of the virtual machine built recently. I start the virtual machine and watch the console screen boot and load the operating system. IP address is never assigned and the console device is displayed with IP = 0.0.0.0.

    I then have to connect with the image, manually assign the IP settings and then everything works. I expect this happen at boot time so that my firstbootscript can take advantage of the assigned IP address.

    -

    Maybe I go about it the wrong way, but my usecase is as follows:

    Build a VM & gt; Distribute the VM on end user & gt;  end user deploys on ESX and chooses address IP & gt; end user boots VM for the first time & gt; firstbootscript runs automatically

    Am I missing something? Can I have different expectations about how IP assignment is supposed to work? I read about IP Pools, but this isn't an option in my vSphere Client.

    Property of the FVO is the best option to set an IP address.

    Long back for Linux OS, I have written a shell script to set the IP address and the hostname in firstboot Virginia you can try this for your going here is the link for the same thing.

    http://communities.VMware.com/docs/doc-10953

    In the OS from VMware Studio tab you can paste this script in the script firstboot.

    First of all, please run this script manually and then use it in VMware Studio firstboot.

  • How to start a virtual machine without vmx file

    Hello, I have a virtual machine that I want to start up using 10.0.0 on Ubuntu 14.04 32-bit workstation but I don't have multiple vmdk files and a file on me vmxf and apparently, that's all that is in the software. How do I run something like that?

    Hello
    You cannot start a virtual machine without a vmx file.
    If you do not have a vmx file - fly a.
    For example this one:
    -----------------------------------

    . Encoding = "windows-1252".

    config.version = '8 '.

    virtualHW.version = '8 '.

    scsi0. Present = 'TRUE '.

    scsi0.virtualDev = "free".

    memsize = "2048".

    scsi0:0. Present = 'false '.

    scsi0:0. FileName = "set-path-to-bootdisk-and-then-set-.present-to-true-to-activate".

    ethernet0. Present = 'TRUE '.

    ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000".

    displayName = "minimal-vm.

    guestOS = "windows7-64.

    virtualHW.productCompatibility = "hosted".

    ------------------------------------

    That cuts into a file and store it as a *.vmx.
    Then launch the new VM with
    VMware /path-to-vmx/name.vmx or
    vmplayer /path-to-vmx/name.vmx
    Other users may also recommend to simply launch the user interface and follow the file > New menu...
    and then order the new virtual machine to the card by selecting your existing virtual disks.

  • Start the virtual machine and wait for WF, does not connect to the computer virtual for Vds (Windows 2008 R2)

    Hello

    See a strange problem with only a Windows 2008 R2 model. When you use the built-in function "Start VM and wait" workflow to start a virtual machine (after conversion from a template either manually, or through workflow) NIC of the virtual machine (I tried VMXNET3 and e1000 times) does not connect to the problem. Vds can be replicated in a different VCenter, so spreading the vds. I also created several models of Windows 2008 r2 and all have this problem.

    If the model is converted and started outside VRO, it gets an IP from and is connected to the VDS immediately

    Tried add/remove the NIC of the model

    Tried to move the comments on different hosts

    Tried to create a new template from scratch

    NOTE: Windows 2012 R2 doesn't have this problem in the same circles, the only constant is the Windows 2008 R2 being started by VRO.

    Anyone seen this before?

  • ZPrint accident of process before starting the virtual machine

    I see the following messages in system.log everytime my Windows VM starts. These accidents zprint apparently never happened before today. There is no previous accident for zprint report. The messages below always repeat 3 times before other messages on VM, commissioning.

    Extract from the report of crash:

    Exception type: EXC_ARITHMETIC (SIGFPE)

    Exception codes: EXC_I386_DIV (division by zero)

    Why the merger issues the command zprint? If she has always done so before, why is zprint now blocking?

    (If I run the terminal zprint command without specifying the name of the area it blocks the same way.)

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Some things that I did today that might be important:

    My Mac Pro locked up while I was running Firefox (open Youtube and Yahoo pages).  I pushed the power button / stop. The virtual Windows machine was running at the time.

    After restarting the Mac Pro, when I tried to start the virtual machine, I got the message: "... vmdk has one or more internal errors that cannot be repaired. The only option is to restore from a backup copy of this disk... »

    So I renamed the corrupt VM bundle, then drag-and - drop copied all of the virtual machine to a backup volume.

    When I started the virtual machine restored, I noticed the crash zprint above messages.

    Thank you!

    OS X 10.5.8, Fusion 3.1.4

    Fusion uses zprint to internal information of the kernel which are very difficult to obtain by other means.

    Given how long it has been since OS X 10.5.8 or Fusion 3.1.4 were changed, either something has been corrupted or something has changed in the system environment for that to happen early.  I can't find any other references to zprint triggering a SIGFPE anywhere else on the Internet...

    If you do not already done, I highly recommend running disk utility and check (and possibly repair) the disks of your host before doing anything else.

    See you soon,.
