What influences the size of the Lightroom catalog file?
Just a general question really...
I often read in various forums of LR users who have tens of thousands of images in their catalog, and yet the file catalog itself is relatively low (e.g. ' I 100 000 + images in my catalog, and it is 350 MB). Personally, I have about 11 700 images in my catalog at the moment, and the catalog file is approaching the size of 8 GB (currently at about 7.69 GB) approach. To be clear, I speak more precisely here lrcat file, found not all associated State. I have resonable several copies virtual (100 for example) and added a bit of metadata (hundreds, if not thousands of keywords, GPS, legends, star ratings, flags, and so on). I also make some local adjustments for many - although certainly not close all - my photos in the develop module and have some stories quite big edition accordingly. I also have a small number of editing running services and several collections, including a number of smart collections.
This isn't a problem for me, and I have plenty of space for the lrcat file to grow so I certainly not lose sleep. I'm just puzzled why my catalog file is (perhaps) larger than it should be.

Note: Mollysnoot has sent me his catalog, and I deep-6 a history table to develop to see what difference it has made to the size of the catalog file.
Mollysnoot wrote:
My number a suspect must be history I think.
You think of right. about 90% of the volume of the catalogue is the history list.

I'm new to Lr, can someone tell me if there is a limit of size PRACTICE to a Lightroom catalog file? Should I keep the file size within a certain range of size of GB and then create a new? Thank you I would be grateful of any advice.
He has no such limit, and in fact some users in this domain and other forums report catalogues over 1/2 million pictures works well.
The idea to create multiple catalogs because you don't want to get too big catalog file size is a bad idea that you should never think of it again.

BACKUP QUESTION: why is it that when I backup the Lightroom Catalog (Edit |) Settings of catalog...) only the *.lrcat file included in the ZIP file... While the *., lrdata file, the preview files, ARE NOT INCLUDED? When I restore the *.lrcat file from a backup, WHERE ARE THE PREVIEW FILES that should be included in the ZIP to the top. If *.lrdata (Preview file) are so important, why are not included in the zip? [email protected]

Questions 1)
Not because the LRDATA file is fair previews, what LR displays on your screen for a faster loading of the image and will be recreated. The previews only stored in the folder LRDATA is the basic overview created at time of importation for the display of thumbnails and previews of 1:1 for images that you have actually looked in the Loupe View or I guess that appears in the develop module.
He get all the data to create the image themselves file extracts.
If you have several files on your system that have pictures in them and you select one of them that you have not looked at in a while, you will notice LR creation of previews for these images, there will be 3 white dots in the upper right corner of the thumbnail. It's LR creation of previews for the thumbnail view. If you scroll quickly in the grid view, you'll notice a few thumbnails of images are gray, until you stop scrolling, then the upper left tile will come in clear view and the white dots will appear on the other images. It's LR creating previews for those of other images. Once LR created the preview of thumbnails that are on your screen, white spot will disappear. If you scroll down again, you will see more white dots
If you switch to another folder that LR begins again create preview images in this folder. The total number of previews created and stored based on caching of the preview you have in the catalog settings dialog in the management of the files tab.
If not, you need not the LR Previews.lrdata folder. Whenever LR is not very good this folder with a catalog he recreates it to store previews in.

error. Cannot open the Lightroom Catalog
Hello, I receive the error message: "the called Lightroom Catalog catalog Lightroom 5 cannot open another application already has its opening" at the opening of Lightroom. There is no other application don't use it. There is one file available, not back to the top I was download a catalog of 5.3 TB over the past 4 days and has not stopped. RAW files are sitting on a separate hard drive to the laptop where the Lightroom Catalog is. I can't access this catalog now. I had a crash before it happens... someone can help here?
You must go to the folder where your catalog and look for a file with .lock extension. This file must be deleted, and then you can again use your catalog. Sometimes, if Lightroom closes abnormally, the lock file is not removed. And that's what causes this error message.

Go in the same folder as your Lightroom catalog file.
In this folder is a file whose name ends in. LOCK (probably all lowercase). Delete this one. LOCK file. Do not remove anything else.

My Lightroom does not. It is showing the message - failed to open the Lightroom catalog called Catalog Lightroom because it is too new to be used by this version of Lightroom. You want to select a different catalog?
It is a catalog that you created on your computer, or coming from another computer?
If it is one that has been created on your computer, you can search your computer to see if you have two different versions of Lightroom installed. If so, then you want to open the new version of Lightroom by double-clicking its icon, and then you should be able to open the catalog.

How to copy the Lightroom catalog on different hard drives?
Can you tell me how to register my catalog of lightroom on 3 different hard drives? I have it only on a single HDD from now.
Hi danielleg,
Greetings!
Connect your drives on the computer on which your catalog is present
Simply copy the catalog and stick to 3 different disks.
The location of the Lightroom Catalog is typically C:\Users\UserName\Pictures\Lightroom (Windows) and User\Pictures. Lightroom (MAC)

How to restore backed up files (not the lightroom catalog) from one external drive to another.
I've recently saved my photo files to one external drive to another. The backup (carbon copy clone) pointed out some files corrupt on the original drive.
I deleted these files and find good copies of Time Machine backups.
I want to get rid of the original external drive; use the recent backup as my main outside and then save it to a new disc.
I'm not sure how everything is point lightroom for backups so he knows look on the new drive instead of the old drive and all points of exclamation and question marks go away.
There are close to 60 000 images in several files with a 'parent folder."
My best guess is Lightroom Help - create and manage folders - locate missing files
Can I point to the folder of one of their parents, and all of the subfolders will return?
This is the process for recovering files in lightroom and there will be a problem with so many photos?

Each file type is in a different format. The formats are different
essentially for two reasons:1. the files contain any other type of information. For
example, an mp3 file contains a music and a xls file contains a
worksheet. The music and spreadsheets are very different things and one

a doc file is a file created by Microsoft Word processor (or
some compatible programs) and a wpd file is a text file
created by WordPerfect. This is because Word and WordPerfect are two
very different programs, with very different characteristics. Designers

What is the MREMP50.sys file?
also what is the win32.tdss.reg key in my registry should I remove their how to remove them?
Thank you
MREMP50.sys is the PCAUSA NDIS 5.0 MPR of Printing Communications Assoc. protocol driver.
It is usually located in C:\Program Files\Common\Motive. This is part of the management software in Broadband Mobile Communications, which is now part of Alcatel-Lucent. This software is distributed by several ISPS to provide their users with Office diagnosis.
Win32.TDSS.reg isn't a registry key, but the name is similar to that of known malware.
You can launch TdssKiller from Kaspersky to check it out.
