What is my macbook pro is fully qualified hostname - necessary for downloading Calibre on an iPad

I'm putting in place the gauge on my Macbook Pro, so I can download books to Marvin on an iPad, using DPO. The instructions must "use a URL of the form http://myhostname:8080. Here myhostname must be the full qualified host name or IP address, such as the computer is running. »

I prefer not to use the IP address, because it would require the reconfiguration of a virtual private network. So, what is my host name "complete"?

Any help would be much appreciated.
