  • Should I delete the programs of 2004? How can you know what is safe to delete?

    Original title: remove programs

I think I have a virus.  I see on my computer a few applications with and installed as of 2004.  The computer was purchased in 2007.  When I run it in safe mode, it works fine and all applications have a date of 2007 or newer.  Should I delete the programs of 2004? How can you know what is safe to delete?

    Hello

This is not an indication of malware. Could be those are placed on the
computer by the manufacturer of the system and that was the date that firstly, they prepared their
for massive installation, or if they did not set a date and be used arbitrarily.

    =============================================================

If you need search malware here's my recommendations - they will allow you to
scrutiny and the withdrawal without ending up with a load of spyware programs running
resident who can cause as many questions as the malware and may be more difficult to detect as the
    cause.

No one program cannot be used to detect and remove any malware. Added that often easy
to detect malicious software often comes with a much harder to detect and remove the payload. Then
its best to be thorough than paying the high price later now too. Check with them to one
extreme overkill point and then run the cleaning only when you are sure that the system is clean.

It can be made repeatedly in Mode safe - F8 tap that you start, however, you must also run

When we look at the available disk space on any partition C you must take into account all the partitions and you did not provide the information necessary to conduct a review. Please provide a copy of your system information file. Type system information in the search box above the Start button and press ENTER. Select file, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Please download your disk from sky to share with everyone and post a link here. Please say if the report was obtained in safe mode.

    1. what prompted allows you to remove information from appdata folder?
    2. do you have any error message on appdata?

Manually delete the files in the AppData folder is never a good idea. It can damage the installed programs and programs might not work.

  • Could you give me a list of what is safe to delete Windows XP?

Could you give me a list of what is safe to delete Windows XP?

This isn't a list of "programs".  This is a list of files and folders which many (more?) are Windows system files that should not be deleted.

You can Google these names as easily as possible, although some names are completely ambiguous without the rest of the way - for example, _default and configuration could be anything. Panther looks like it is related to your Mac.

You must uninstall programs ONLY by using the control panel > add / remove software.  Do not delete random files and folders.

Download and run JDiskReport... and then you can see what's worth worrying in terms of size.

If your Windows system is running slowly, it is quite possible that you have been infected by malicious software.  What antivirus application on side Windows do you use?  His subscription is up to date? The subscription has already lapsed?

  • Files dump debugging and log files to install in the disk cleanup window

The two points above appear in my disk cleanup window, and I wonder if it is o: k to remove. The first occupies a space of 283 KB and the other 2537 KB. The description of these two files in the disk cleanup window is "files created by Windows.

I have a second question: I have about 5 GB left as free space on my hard drive of 'C '. If this is considered sufficient, or should I get more? I am a senior retired and only use the computer for basic items.

I have a computer Dell Dimension 4100 with Service Pack 3 for Windows XP - Home Edition Operating System - desktop, 111 Pentium with 930 MHZ, 20 GB hard drive and 512 MB RAM. The file system is FAT 32.

Thank you very much for your cooperation and your response.

"Debug dump files" are copies of the contents of your computer's memory.

When a program crashes, it will sometimes "dump" all or part of the
contents of the RAM to a file on your hard drive. The file is useful to
a technical support person who tries to understand why the program
crashed. (Most of the tech support people have no idea what to do with a dump
    file.)

Unless you have been asked to submit a dump for inspection file, feel free
    to get rid of them.

Setup logs files are "log" installation of a program. If you
Watch a (they are really just text files - open with Notepad) you will have
see that they give a blow by blow description of how the program has been
    installed, glorious detail.

If a program does not properly settled, the Setup log will tell you what that
was wrong. If you have not had a facility wrong, do not hesitate to ditch
    These files as well.

On the question of how much free space on the disk is enough... There is no
standards. 15% of your drive must be empty in order for Windows
The Defragmenter built into the work. In addition, it is to you.

Your processor is another story. It's not easy to find effective security
software that will work on a P3. Even if you only use the computer
for the basic elements, an internet connection is pretty basic for a online
    criminal to find you.

  • My XP desktop seems to have thrown my 'system tools' function and I want to use the disk cleanup and defragmentation... How to get back the system tools?

My computer is as I said above a desk with the microsoft XP program and is a little less than five years.  It has been slow and it dawned on me that I hadn't used the disk cleanup or some defrag for a while, but I clicked on start, all programs, accessories, System Tools was is no longer.  I have not been able to access the disk cleanup or defragment option and hope that out there, can someone advise me how to get this feature.

You can run Disk Cleanup and Defragmenter disk since the start > run box by typing the following

    Cleanmgr
    Dfrg.msc

You can restore all of the 'Accessories' group (including system tools) by following the directions here--> http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Accessories.htm

Or you could just create shortcuts to

    C:\Windows\system32\dfrg.msc
    and
    %SystemRoot%\System32\cleanmgr.exe

Note that % SystemRoot % is the directory where Windows.  You can use this form or explicit as in the example for the shortcut from the Defrag.

  • I - delta.vmdk files, non - .vmsn files. It is safe to delete all the snapshots in snapshot Manager?

    Hello

Our VM froze because our ESXi data store is full. I deleted - .vmsn for the 1st file snapshot via CLI (using the "rm" command).

VM is on thick disk and have 2 snapshots. so I still - flat.vmdk, - delta.vmdk. (for the two snapshots) and - .vmsn (only for the 2nd snapshot).

wouldn't be all right if I delete all the snapshots in snapshot Manager? ATM, we don't have that 8 GB on the data store, and snapshot size is approximately 67GB

    Thank you

    Dan

The lack of . VMSN file shouldn't cause problems because it is necessary in case you want to or need to go back to a snapshot. In all cases, with only 8 GB of free space on the disk, you can consider deleting the snapshot with the virtual machine being turned off. This avoids the need for disk space temporary additional database snapshots while / delta are merged into the base/flat disc.

You can delete several at once. Press the button "Edit" in the mailbox, select e-mail then press on "trash".

they must be selected one by one, there is no "select all" I remember

If you have a lot to remove you may wish to do so outside the mail application. If your email provider has a web interface, use it. • Is this ok to remove temporary files with the disk cleanup?

as I checked, temporary files takes about 30GB of space on my drive. I am currently using windows 7 Home Basic. I'm trying to free up some space on my laptop coz, it's been slow lately. It will improve the performance of my laptop? Thank you! responses are much appreciated.

'about 30 GB of my disk space "

It's a bunch of temporary files. Even 3 GB would be enormously, but yes, you can leave

Disk cleanup deletes some Temp files it wishes. Cannot remove files that are used.

Disk Cleanup is actually rather conservative in what it removes. I often deleted a large number of

    Disk Cleanup files left behind.

Update of Windows and the service pack files may use a lot of space. Especially if disk cleanup

has not been executed on a regular basis.

Disk Cleanup can also remove these files, but if there are recent updates, it may be safer to wait

you know that they cause no problem.

If you haven't defraged the HARD drive for a while, doing so should also help speed things up.

My button of disk cleanup on the property Page of all the hard disks on the general tab is missing for centuries.  Short of a reinstallation of Vista Ultimate x 86, we might want to know how can I get it back?

Disk Cleanup works through other options available for the throw, but I miss my button, everyone has seen?

I still have my representable pattern pink and blue used and free space on the drive, just no button.

    Hi Linney

    Try this.

Right-click on the Recycle Bin on the desktop and select Properties.

If you do not have the Recycle Bin on the desktop, open Windows Explorer and look for him at the bottom of the Navigation pane.

Recycle bin properties, make sure that the drive letter of the System Volume is selected. (Usually c :))
If you have the 'c. do not move files to the Recycle Bin Option to remove files when they are immediately deleted"selected, and then select the other option. Click apply/OK.

Check the results on the properties of drive of the volume.
