What is the best choice, factory recovery Vista, or upgrade to windows 7?
Hi everyone, my hp Pavilion a610t/Vista premium, 2.2 G cpu, 3 G ram is begginning to get slow and my registry has been damaged (my cd player does not work because the driver does not not despite all troubleshooting, will not read SD card, task manager blocks and other minor problems that I could continue... etc...) I have 2 years from the end of my studies and need a reliable free trouble PC bu cannot afford to buy a new PC now. What would be the best solution? total factory using recovery disc/Vista OS restore or upgrade OS set to windows 7? I heard windows7 is allot more reliable and trouble free but do not know if my system would work well considering its specifications. Factory restore would give me a new start but eventually vista will act up and is no longer supported... Any advice would be welcome, I'm strictly amateur, and it would make by a Tech unless, its worth trying to fix my problems, but don't know where to start.
Thank you, Alan

My laptop is a HP G60 Notebook PC.
Intel (r) Pentium (R) Dual cpu 3200 @ 2.00ghz (2 CPUs), ~2.0ghz3002 MB OF RAMMobile Intel 4 series express chipset family.I'm probally never the less irritable person, I can find my way around a computer without problem and understand most of the things, but I have no idea on the plug, what they mean, or even do it. So my question is to the specifications above, that what would be the best version of windows to run?Just to make sure on this wireless driver before you buy Windows 7:
As in the Forums of HP's Support.

More to buy 64-bit, but to use it effectively, you must at least 4GBs of RAM; you have only 3GBs

What is the best Windows 7 Optimization Guide out there?
I have the head EMC has a very good guide, but I was wondering if anyone has any advice/suggestions? In a nutshell, I have no problem whatsoever resources for my view environment, if something we have more structured, so I want to optimize the image of Win 7 for representation only and not because of limited resources. Thank you!
This is the same guide, Tim just posted, but for some reason, the link that it affected is an updated version of the guide that does not include the commands.txt attachedments, it don't:
http://communities.VMware.com/docs/doc-18021
BTW: Optimizing your desktop for VDI can be overstated, you should really do this without worrying if everything goes well, you simply burn cycles, IO because Microsoft has activated as controls Tablet without reason of things.

I have Windows XP Professional and see that Windows XP will support ending April 8, 2014. My question is quite simple: what is the best operating system to install instead of XP? Is - this Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows 8.1? I don't want a touchscreen application. I'm used to XP. I have a desktop computer with a lot of programs running at the same time, am constantly downloading big files and open the three browsers (MS IE, Google Chrome, Mozilla). I can't afford downtime if things stop grinding and safety is an important issue for me. I want to continue to receive updates. Any help from the community would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone had Windows XP Professional and already past to another OS? If Yes, what kind of problems you are having or, at the other end are things runnig smoothly?
Thank you!
I don't have personal experience with Win 8, so take the following with a grain of salt. It is my understanding that Win 8 is really designed for touch screens, although it works without one. There was a lot of vocal dissatisfaction with Win 8, but which can decrease as people get more used is a pretty important user interface change.
I had XP Pro Win 7 Pro change quite easily. In addition, if you plan to use your hardware even (rather than buying a new computer with Windows pre-installed), your old hardware is support Win 7 to 8 win more.
My suggestion: go with Windows 7 Professional
If you plan to install one of these operating systems on your current hardware, run these first:
Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor
Upgrade Wizard of Windows 8 (for 8.1, see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-from-windows-vista-xp-tutorial) -
Vista to 7 or 8... What is the best?
I have windows Vista Ultimate, 64-bit - RAM 8 GB - INTEL CORE 2 QUAD-CPU [email protected]
I want to upgrade to windows 7... then windows 8?
What is the best version to go?
Hello
It is a personal choice as to what operating system, you prefer after doing your research on their topic.
But first, make sure that your computer will work properly with them:
Before purchasing Windows 7, follow these steps:
Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.
If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.
Run the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

Check if your specifications are compatible for Windows 7:

Do the following before upgrade you to Windows 8/8.1.
Check if the manufacturer of your computer/laptop has Windows 8 drivers available for your model.
If this is not available, Windows 8/8.1 not install and work properly for you.
There is a lot of information in this first link from Microsoft:
Download and run the Windows Upgrade Assistant 8.1 of to see if your machine is compatible Windows 8.1 and read the update for Windows 8.1: FAQ here

What is the best strategy to migrate data from Windows to one Mac to another? I use Parallels Desktop to run Windows on my current Mac but want to use Bootcamp on my new.
If it is only the data (not apps) I use Dropbox. It turned out to be the best way to move things between the side Mac and the bootcamped Windows of my iMac side. I don't see why it would not work to move data from a virtual machine installation of Win to a BootCamp installation.
