  • When windows update is running on my machine (and updates), my screen goes down to 1024 x 768.

When windows update is running on my machine (and updates), my screen goes down to 1024 x 768.  I have a HD card of ATI all-in - Wonder and an Acer X203H LCD with DVI connection.  If I use system restore to go back, I can get higher resolutions, but Windows does its thing and I'm back at low resolution.  I can't change the settings manually as 1024 watch as the highest res available to the general public when this happens.  There must be some weird conflicts.  I tried to update the drivers, that made no difference.  Is there a setting Aero or the conflict at stake here?  In the past, I've had trouble with a display of balnk and I had to go back to the 2008 version of the driver to get things to work.  From there, whenever I update, I can keep high resolution, but after the last windows update (security of IE8 and much smaller pack that was released on March 28-30), it dates back to 1024 x 768 again.  Control Panel and catalyst control the two show that as more high resolution available for refresh rate. Suggestions?

Understanding Windows Update and Extras in Windows Vista

Download updates but let me choose whether to install them - if you select this option, Vista will download the updates on your computer, but not install them automatically. If you want to install updates, then you must install them manually. You should only select this option if you have a reason to not install updates automatically. Only advanced users should use this option.

Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them - if you select this option, you'll be alerted when there are new updates available for download and install. You can then choose to download and install the updates that you want. This option should really be reserved for people who know exactly which updates they need, or those who have little access to the Internet.

  • Windows 7 Ultimate. Computer never stops when windows update is running.

I recently got windows 7 ultimate system and with the exception of two questions im love it.

The big one, is that, since at least two to three weeks every time the automatic windows update installs something windows closed, never stops.

I think the updates are installing, windows just hangs after the update is complete. (history of update of windows said that they where successful)

The screen will tell me its 1 installation of updates for a few minutes.

then it will say that its closure, that she will never be.

  • When Windows updates will be back to normal?

I tried for a few days now to install the most recent (and the multiplicity of) Windows updates - August.

I still can't get them - the display will show "check des.." for centuries, and nothing happens.

Some say that the delays were caused by the "Win10 upgrade" just after having been made available.

Updates are critical, so must be installed.

Does anyone at Microsoft dropped the ball by not knowing the release date of these updates is facing the right Win10 hand updated IE do not know what the left hand is doing?

You are not alone.  I look after more than 150 computers Win7.  Everyone knows that without Windows Update service.  My advice: turn off automatic updates, wait a week.  Maybe, just maybe they will figure it out a get back up and running.

I have no doubt that the problem is not your PC or any other PC.  The problem is at Microsoft in a desperately inadequate Windows Update System.

  • When windows update program tries to download updates to update my computer it hangs and won't or can't down load updates.

After, it tries to download updates and can't... I see that it lists the programs that should be downloaded and next to each program, it says download failed.

I think that there is something on my computer that prevents the download.  I first noticed when I tried to download the program called pc tools, and I couldn't.  The Technical Department has tried to help me pc tools, but they have given up... they couldn't help me.

Is there anyone here, they might be able to help?

    I'd appreciate anyone's help.

One of the most common causes of problems are Anti Virus and Anti Spyware software currently running on the computer.

You can try to disable them, and then try the updates again. Keep the firewall however.
