You can also copy and paste the following text in Notepad and save to a .reg file (save with the .reg extension and give a name like fixcd.reg):

    Hi Colker,

There is no UpperFilters or LowerFilters values to the registry key in Windows 8 by default, so you can delete the LowerFilters value.

To remove the LowerFilters value click LowerFilters and select Remove, confirm the deletion.

Create a System Restore Point beforehand and restart the computer later.

    Hello again jaxtrukNMkt,

Thanks for providing the necessary information. I've seen this kind of problem before and it was solved by using Microsoft Support document resolution 3: Your CD or DVD drive is not recognized by Windows or other programs and uninstall and reinstall iTunes. I would give you the 3rd resolution of this document a try and then uninstall iTunes from your programs and features and then download and reinstall iTunes.

    Thank you.

    Hello HCarmenates,

Have you tried to uninstall the dvd via the Device Manager drive then restart PC to see if Windows reinstalls? You can do it. If the problem is still there, can give a try? It is a quick easy fix from Microsoft, here is the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060. You need to uninstall all third-party software (example: Roxio, Nero, or iTunes) from your computer before you make this correction. After you restart, you can reinstall your software and try again to see if that solves your problem. Otherwise, it could be a bad optical drive. Hope this helps you. Let us know anyway. Make it a great day!

  • HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA - T40N ATA Device works like a CD player. It is supposed to be a DVD player?

    Hello

First of all, I would like to thank you in advance for your help.

I had the problem of my HL - DT - ST DVDRAM GSA - T40N ATA Device not reading anything into the drive and removed the filters. It is still not working properly, and it's the rare occasions when he did (after hitting enough lol) and I needed it to work again. I disabled the device and rebooted before her reactivation. Although it works now it has unfortunately fizzled. It is now only installed as a CD player and it used to be a DVD player. Before it stopped working TI played DVD 100% fine as well so it should be good.

Here is some info on my laptop:
    Model: Acer Aspire 5920
    OS: Vista Edition Home Premium
    RAM: 3 GB

If you are in need of any more information do not hesitate to ask!
    Thank you
