where's my network?

I tried to install a printer wireless to my router wrt54g and somehow my network simply disappeared. The router still works, but just available network presents itself as 'linksys '. I am online with it now...

I don't mind having to create a new network, but I can't do that.

I have reset the button on the back of the router and went to the 192.168.1.1 address and reset to the factory settings, then I tried to reconfigure using the CD of Linksys, which accompanies it. I went through all the steps and he kept saying that he could not find and internet connection.    Obviously, the internet wireless internet is good because I am connected via "linksys" now as I type this.

I've tried this process about 5 times and now I'm out of ideas, any help would be appreciated!

FWIW:

I repowered the device after resetting the button, I'm plugged into the ethernet port 1, I repowered the modem, I repowered them both.

Thank you!

Hi donkeyschool,

If you try to change the settings of your router wireless by going to http://192.168.1.1, this means that you don't need to run the installation CD.

The installation CD is used only for the initial setup of the router.

But since you can already go online wirelessly to the router, but using its default, Linksys SSID, it means that the router already works very well.

No need to run the installation CD more.

If you only want to change the SSID of Linksys to any new name, back to http://192.168.1.1 .

> Click on wireless and then change the name of the wireless network or SSID Linksys to any new name you want.

> Click on save settings.

If you want to secure your wireless network, you can follow the steps on this LINK

I hope that these help!

Sometimes my computer will connect and detect the networks without wire, Hotels, airports etc. but do not work in the home and in some offices.

I run put WXP updated with SP2 have an Artheros5005gs adapter. Any ideas?

    Hello

It is a matter of compatibility between the WLan router and wireless network card.
If the wireless network adapter does not support the same Wlan standards then you will not be able to establish the WiFi connection.
Especially the hotspots (Wlan on airports, city, etc.) are not secure and that is why the laptop automatically connects to these wireless LANs.

The WiFi network at home or in the office is secure for most and you need a right encryption key to connect to these wireless LANs.

So I think you should check you settings router WLan configuration and usage of encryption right key, SSID, etc.

  • XNET alias 'lost' its database. How do you know where to search?

    Hello

I have several XNET sessions in my project, but one of them has "lost" the database associated with it. I'm guessing that the database may have been accidentally deleted from our network, but I don't know where on the network, the database has been (or even what it was called). Is it possible to find the location of the database that goes with the xnet/alias session?

    TIA,

    Andrew

    Hi André,.

Unfortunately once a database has been deleted, there is no way to retrieve a path to it. If you don't find the database yourself, maybe one of your colleagues will have access to it, or you may have to re-create the database. In the future I would recommend that you keep a backup of the entire database if this happens again.

    Dear all,

I have a problem with my HP Photosmart 7520 printer where all wireless network devices will lose connectivity after a printer has been sent to the printer.

Number of brand and model of the router?

These settings are to set up your printer wireless (or wired):

    • Stay connected to your router
    • Trouble printer status 'offline '.
    • Wake mode 'sleep'
    • All wireless devices stay better connected

While the DHCP is convenient, devices like printers (wired and wireless) should always be assigned a (fixed) IP address manually to avoid conflicts on your wireless network and must be outside the range of the router DHCP.  After the adjustment of the static IP address the computer must be updated to show a Standard TCP/IP port with the IP address of printers under printer properties/Ports.

    1. Set a static in the printer IP address (click here) outside the range of the DHCP of the router (check your manual). It is for Linksys routers, but can be used for all routers. Check your DHCP range and change this first if necessary. More Help Wireless Printing is here and here and still more here.  Video here explains the problem and how to solve the problem. <--> So watch this!
    2. Or check in the printer "Auto Off/sleep/Energy Saving Mode" is disabled the System Mode Time Out is set to zero (0) Use the built-in webserver (EWS) by visiting the printer address IP address in the address bar of your browser, click on settings tab/Auto Off. Or use the printer, printer Home Page (EWS) Wizard. Also check your printer properties.
    3. If the printer supports and has IPv6 enabled, disable the IPv6 option in the printer.
    4. Make sure that the printer is connected directly to a socket wall and not to a UPS, power strip or a lightning arrestor. This will cause the printer to drop offline connection and disconnection (checked yes!).

This occurs when a computer uses the network map to connect to another computer to share files.

To fix this problem, do one or more of the following methods.

    Method 1: Control equipment

    (a) ensure that the computer with file sharing turned on.

    (b) ensure that a hub network or router is powered.

    (c) ensure that the cables are well connected.

If this does not resolve the problem, go to method 2: ensure that network resources are properly shared.

  • Wired network problem

I have a problem abreast to get my Vista laptop to connect to a properly wired. A brief diagnosis is that ive been using for almost a year only on wireless but ive now moved into a place where the cable network is mandatory. If I plug the network cable before starting or the UN-sleep moding it works very well for about 2 minutes approximately and then stops. If I plug while it is initialized to towards the top and not in sleep / off then it will try to identify the network and then give me local access only.

I'm pretty sure it's a problem of windows software, I started from a Linux disk and internet worked well, I'm also certain that the internet itself works because im typing this on my other laptop that also runs vista (both 32-bit) and he seems to have no problem with the connection at all.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Hi people...

I regularly work as a volunteer for several non-pour win here in Topeka and I am experienced enough with computers, but have an I can't solve.    We have an Inspiron 570 which does not connect to the internet... There is no NIC in Device Manager, and then I downloaded and installed the drivers from the Dell website.   One of the facilities has failed... error message says "cannot continue because the device (NIC) is not available.        I guess I could buy a USB Ethernet adapter and go from there, but is not where this darn network card have or where he might be or how to fix it.    His otherwise a very good computer that needs this 501 c 3 bad since its one of their best computers.

Do not know how... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I also tried

    netsh winsock reset

from an administrator command prompt but no change.

    Can anyone help?

    Hi Andrea,

    Please keep us updated.

This can be shown because of missing or corrupted system files. This is why I would recommend running the System File Checker tool, which is a Windows utility that allows users to find corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

To do this, click Start, type command or cmd prompt in the Search box, right click invite, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.

At the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER:

    sfc/scannow

Note: Do not close the command prompt window until the audit is completed 100%. The results of the analysis will be posted when this process is complete.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to answer in the case where you are facing in the future other problems with Windows.

  • # To access Internet changes with each network connection

Sometimes, I get a popup asking where is my network location.  Most often my access Internet says network 5 or 7 network, etc.  I cannot get Internet access via network 3.  This just started happening after I upgraded my Iolo System Mechanic Version 14.5.  I uninstalled from this program, but the network problem.  Is there a way I can apply 3 network to my Internet access, so it won't change.  To reach this network 3, I have to unplug my modem and then plug it back again.  I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.  Thanks for any help!

I searched the Internet & found a good program that totally solved my problem.  I found this program network card to the: http://www.freewarefiles.com/NetAdapter-Repair-All-In-One_program_101201.html

  • Windows Firewall: "Public network" - what is it?

The cropped image is from a screenshot of "Control Panel" > "Windows Firewall".

Watch 'Public networks' above. It says not 'connected '. Huh? I can browse the Internet, while 'public network' means for Microsoft?

1, I seek to understand the firewall rules.
2, I guess the 'unidentified network' is the VirtualBox Host-Only connection to my Linux VM.

3, 'this' on the side of my router is my LAN. I guess that's what Microsoft means by 'private network '.

4, the other side of my router is the Internet.

5, when I initiate a connection, my computer sends a packet to my router (via my ' private network'? How else, huh?). My router it then goes to the Internet (a ' public network'? If the Internet is not a public network, what is?)

If all this happens normally whereas my "public network" is "not connected", then what is my 'public network '?

  • Hundreds of "Microsoft ISATAP Adapter" s in interfaces, slow down some networking applications

    Hello

Recently, I noticed that some Java applications on my computer take a long time to start: at startup, the grip of the application within about 20 seconds, while the Task Manager indicates that the "javaw.exe" process takes 25% CPU usage (I'm on a quad-core processor, then that would mean that the process of one of them is fully) at the end of the duration of block applications finally starts and then normally works (and the CPU usage decreases). However, this long startup time is annoying when development/debugging Java applications.

Make debugging, I could see that what was slowing down applications is a method of the Java API called 'getNetworkInterfaces' that retrieves the list of available network interfaces. Running a test program showed me that this method has found more than 1,000 network interfaces (!) on my system, which most is labeled "Microsoft ISATAP Adapter". Apparently, this method is called at the beginning of these Java applications, for reasons that I have not always figured out.

Did some other research, I found that this method calls a Windows API 'GetIfTable"( MSDN documentation ) function: runs the C++ test program still shows the same number of interfaces (~ 1 000), with all the"Microsoft ISATAP adapter' s. as a result, the problem is probably not due to lack of Java; It's just more noticeable on Java applications, because Java must create a NetworkInterface object for each of these interfaces.

Still more research to show that it is a known problem in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008. The question now is: how to remove these "Microsoft ISATAP cards?" They do not appear in the devices, or using DevCon Manager as suggested on other forums. So far, I have not found a satisfactory answer.

Here are a few links relating to the issue, this could enlighten us:

This seems to be the issue as described in the base, Microsoft technical support, but he mentions "6to4 adapter" not "maps ISATAP.

This user in the forums TechNet has the same problem (multiple interfaces, network do not appear in Device Manager, can't get them off with DevCon) but the wire provided no real answers. It would also be interesting to know where getIfTable retrieves network information: apparently is not in the registry.

Finally, the most interesting link is one that also describes the issue (if it is on Windows Server) and mentions the effect on Java programs. He described a solution mentioning a tool "NDISCLEANUP" but I can't find it anywhere. Where can I get this tool?

  • VPN site to Site - NAT network internal

    Hi all

I have a site to site VPN setup (both sites have Cisco ASA) where my internal network is 192.168.1.0/24 and internal, the other site of the network happens to have the exact same internal network. Is it possible that I can NAT my internal address to 172.18.1.0/24 and I get the job? It should then allow both sites to communicate successfully. Thank you.

    Hello

You'll have to NAT to both ends of the VPN L2L connection. This is because even if you the other end to another network NAT it will mean that this site would have to connect to a destination address that is apparently in its own network and connections would fail.

The format of configuration depends on your level of ASAs software

    8.2 software (and below)

Comment by L2LVPN-POLICYNAT-access list policy NAT for VPN L2L

    permit access-list L2LVPN-POLICYNAT

    static (inside, outside) access-list L2LVPN-POLICYNAT

    Software 8.3 (and above)

the object of the LAN network

    subnet

network of the LAN - NAT object

    subnet

    network of the REMOTE object

    subnet

NAT static LAN LAN destination - NAT source (indoor, outdoor) static REMOTE

Note to use the correct networks in the statements above. The destination in the configuration network is naturally the NAT network uses the other site.

In the same say, you can you make sure your L2L Crypto ACL VPN connections using the local NAT network as the source and the remote NAT network as the destination.

    Hope this helps
