Could not find my system tools in the Start - Menu accessories XP
When I go to start - programs - accessories, all it shows is Internet Explorer. I am running XP Media Center on an HP PC.
I had a few problems of virus or Trojan which appear to be mostly fixed, except that for the last two days, I can't do a Google search. When I click on 'Search' IE takes back me to my homepage to google. I wanted to do a scandisk and Defrag, but I can't find the programs, even through a search.

Post-it Note, Snipping Tool, Sound Recorder etc missing from the Start Menu
Some integrated programs have suddenly disappeared in the folder 'Accessories' in the Start Menu, including sticky notes, Snipping Tool, Sound Recorder, and record Tablet PC Tools was empty too and maybe even more than programs that I do not know. (I don't know why this happened, the only reason why I can think of is maybe I fell a development of my antivirus program).
I looked online for solutions, I tried:
-Option unchecking and rechecked the "Tablet PC Tools' of the 'Turn Windows has or not', which bought only the programs in the Tablet PC Tools in the Start Menu folder, but not the Post-it Notes and other
-Restore to an earlier point, but did not work
-Enter sfc/scannow in the command prompt but it has said is that Windows has no problems of integrity or something after scanning and solves nothing
The programs are always there, I found 3 of them in C:/Windows/System32 as exe files and they work from there, but they just will not be displayed in the Start Menu or when I do a search. I don't know what else is missing. Is it possible to bring them back in the start menu? Would be fixed it with a factory reset? - but I don't really want to do a factory reset, unless I am out of options.
Help would be much appreciated!
A factory reset would, but that's certainly an exaggeration just to restore shortcuts.

You can access Mode safe? Repeatedly press F8 as you start? If yes you can try Control Panel - device

Hello
I am running 64 Win7HP on a laptop HP dv3, processor Core 2 Duo 4 GB DDR2 Ram, 320 GB HD, just as it came out of the box when purchased directly from HP replaced EXCEPT Vista OS with 64bits Win7HP. Machine worked fine until the LAST update of Windows, where during the reboot, I got to the HP logo screen and in the lower left corner of the screen appeared the statement (for THE FIRST TIME) "Press ESC for the Start Menu." Pressing Esc translates into another command "press Esc...". Break. " When you press ESC, you get a black screen until the machine goes to sleep UNLESS you press Ctrl + Alt + Delete. If you press the 3 key combo, it will continue to start and brings you to the screen of your password for access and then operate nicely, until you turn off the system. So, how can I get rid of the superfluous instructions and get this thing here where he turns and goes directly to the screen of password without intermediate steps? Restore points are long since gone for immediate access to the front last Win Update. The answer may be simple, but until now it has escaped my low range. Any help is appreciated.Creyn1Hi Creyn1,

My pc has been infected recently with the fake windows recovery tool. I don't know how to recover the files/folders in the start menu and the desktop that were there before.
It seems to remove the shortcuts in the start program, so a show systemic does not help. Or it does solve the problem of the "NoDesktop" under political Explorer setting, which prevents the user access to the desktop (see ( http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc938265.aspx). I had to deal with a computer with these questions last week. I'm not sure it's the same virus (it was a fakesysdef one), but some things can not easily be corrected. My experience was that I had to set up the shortcuts to start again, as they were not hidden, but they seem to just disappeared.

My laptop with Windows 7 (64-bit) can not see the other desktop PC running Windows XP via a wireless connection, except if it is plugged into my laptop so only I can see them on the network.
I checked all the working groups to ensure that all are the same. However, when my laptop into Wi - Fi, I could see the other wired desktop PC by specifying the network path in "search programs and files" to the start menu in the Windows 7 laptop, I was able to add network folder by specifying the drive letter for the connection and file I want to connect via a right click on the network to connect a network drive...
Then, finally I can access any other desktop pc wired to shared folder via the Wi - Fi by this method.
But I still don't see them on eventhrough network I can access by this method. Please help me solve this problem.
Hi Hkway,
- You are able to see the Windows 7 machine Windows XP computer when connected through wireless and if it is accessible through network?
First of all, check if the NetBIOS protocol is installed on your Windows XP computer. To install the NetBIOS Protocol, follow these steps:
1. click on start, click on Control Panel and then double-click network connections.
2. right click on the card that you want to add NetBEUI to and then click Properties.
3. on the general tab, click on install.
4. click on Protocol and then click Add.
5. Click to select NetBIOS protocol in the list, and then click OK.
6. restart your computer.
Also make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled in the Windows XP computer. To do this, follow these steps.
Turn on NetBIOS over TCP/IP
1. click onStart, click on Control Paneland then click on network connections and Internet.
2. click onnetwork connections.
3. right click onLocal area connectionand then click Properties.
4. click onInternet Protocol (TCP/IP)and then click Properties.
5. click on the tabgeneral and then click Advanced.
6. click on theWINS tab.
7. underNetBIOS setting, click Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and then clickOK twice.
8. click onclose to close the local area network connection properties dialog box.
9. close the network connections window.
After following the above steps, check if you can access the computer Windows XP of Windows 7 computer using the wireless connection.

Customize the "Programs" list in the start menu which will be held in the way I want
On the Start Menu, under the "All programs" list, I want to be able to organize where shortcuts are stored and how they are organized. I found out how switch to Classic view and do the old-fashioned way. That took me so far. To illustrate, I don't want the set of displayed utilities kitchen sink. This is absurd. So I created folders that go something like this: Office-graphic tools, security tools, tools of money, Web tools, tools, etc. Then the first time I put for example, Adobe Reader 8 under Web tools. I put Norton under Tools-security, etc. This means that I don't have to sort through a Visual equivalent of a pile of linen on the floor to find what I need. It is logically. (When I was finished, I went back in the menu "Classic start", in the Vista Start menu). It was working fine.
But that is the problem. Classics view let me do it once, but now that I've updated programs, like I did just for Adobe Reader 9, he puts the shortcut at the top of the list, and he won't let me not drag in the folder I want, or customize any other way. (Why not? Users should be able to easily organize their own computer screen. For me, customization is not just by clicking on a list about whether or not he should display something. "It is to logically organize the way you want). When I return to the classic menu, it does not show the Adobe Reader 9, or some of the other utilties that have been added to the list of programs and to show up when I go to "All programs" but are not where when I return to the option of classic menu-customize-Advanced to customize folders.
Please advise me on how to customize the display, ideally in the version of Vista's Start Menu, instead of having to go back to the classic view, which now does not display the new shortcuts. Thank you.
Hi ibydesign,
I know what you mean. Everyone has their own way of organizing and you should be able to logically group things where you want. Whose computer is anyway? There IS a way to organize your own stuff in Vista. If you right click on the button to start, then click on explore all users, it will open Windows Explorer in the (hidden) program data folder. Under Microsoft\Windows\Start Démarrer\Programmes you should see all the files and programs that you want to work with.
