  I've been a user of Mozilla for something like 18 years. This latest version is the FIRST TIME that I felt like your service is less above board. Fix it, or I'll find something else.   I would try the following:

  • Sometimes, this can result in a corrupted Firefox profile. Try the procedure described in How to set preferences that will not save and let me know if it works.
  • If this fails, try an update of Firefox, Firefox Refresh - reset the parameters and modules
  • Finally, this can be caused by malware. Try looking for malware with scanners to troubleshoot Firefox problems caused by malicious software

  Every now and then, Firefox will have created zillions of directories and the files cached in the directory for a Firefox profile. The directories are called 0 (zero) and F (using the hexagonal as numbers names, i.e.g), and within each of them will be more directories (with two names of hexadecimal digit). The last time this happened (2 weeks ago), these directories ate ALL my free space on the hard drive (about 46 GB of a value).

  Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most of the modules.

  (If you use it, switch to the default theme).

  • Under Windows, you can open Firefox 4.0 + in Safe Mode holding the key SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
  • On Mac, you can open Firefox 4.0 + in Safe Mode holding the key option key when starting Firefox.
  • Under Linux, you can open Firefox 4.0 + with leaving Firefox then go to your Terminal and running Safe Mode: firefox-safe-mode (you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)
