Why is access to Documents and settings denied?
When I try to opne Documents and setting I get an error box that says access denied. I am the only user and I am registered as an administrator. There is a little lock icon file name. What is and how to remove?
It's just programs them to fool the bad that he search by name. Many bad programs were written to try to find this folder by name, and these programs break if they can't find it.
Not quite true - Windows folder structure has been redesigned in Vista/7 and these junction points are there mainly to allow programs that were written for XP to use the new Vista/7 folder structure. Not much to do with the bad programs, just legacy programs
(The fact that many programs written for XP does not WORK on Vista/7, is a different story!)

Need to access the 'Documents and Settings' folder in Windows 7
I am importing an ArcMAP GIS project to my new Windows 7 computer (the project was launched on Windows XP). Because the files in this project were initially located in the subdirectories of the "Documents and Settings" folder, map search these files in this folder. So, I need to access this folder if I put the files in the location that arcmap is expected to make them, or that I inform manually map the new location, one at a time, hundreds and hundreds of files. Is there a way I can access the "Documents and Settings" folder to add new subdirectories and files in it? After some research, I found the folder, but I said that I don't have authority (even as an administrator) to access and modify the content of the folder. Thank you

access to documents and settings in windows 7
I'm having a problem of password for download. Download provider, HDTracks, advises as last resort to remove it is a temporary file in Documents and Settings. My problem is with windows 7, I can't open this file with a message "access denied." This is the first windows system, I used in which takes place this denial. No matter if this access will eliminate my problem, I want to know how I regain control of my system. I am the administrator.
"Documents and Settings" is not a file in the usual sense of the term - it is a junction point.
Junction Points are just "pointers" - they are there only to allow software to use the new structure of file of Windows Vista/7.
There are others.
Here is a table of all the points of junction and the actual files they point out:
C:\Documents and Settings - C:\Users\{user name} \Documents
Application Data - C:\Users\{user name} \AppData\Roaming
Cookies - name C:\Users\{user} \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies
History - name C:\Users\{user} \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\History
Locale - name C:\Users\{user} \AppData\Local
NetHood - C:\Users\{user name} \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Network shortcuts
Print neighborhood - C:\Users\{user name} \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Printer shortcuts
{Recent - name C:\Users\{user} \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent
SendTo - name C:\Users\{user} \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo
Start Menu - C:\Users\{user name} \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
Models - C:\Users\{user name} \AppData\Roaming
Temporary Internet files - C:\Users\{user name} \AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet FilesThere is nothing that you can use in these files, even if you access them, so there is no point in even trying.

How can I access the Documents and settings folder in Windows 7?
Been searching the Internet for solutions, but found nothing.
Documents and Settings is not a real issue, and it contains all of the files. It's a point of junction : a hidden and protected operating system file that is present for compatibility with some older programs. He points to the real user C:\Users folder. Boulder computer Maven

Refuse access to documents and settings to Windows 7 Administrator
Full installation of Windows 7 from MS was purchased in 2010 (now beyond the time of MS support) on a brand new computer. User account unique (me) with full administrator rights and access (so I thought). Last week for the 1st time, I had access to the Documents & settings. Surprise! Folder is locked and denies me access, no matter what I do with all the settings. "You don't have access to this folder", and he denies me, the administrator, the rights to make the changes. Since I was a year + applications and files installed on this thing, I shudder to anticipate a reinstallation of the system address. Any ideas on how to unlock this file? There may be others that I don't have reason to still access, but it's one important right now. NOTE: I'm an experienced user, but NOT a geek, so a large part of the jargon 'inside baseball' is over my head, but I'm uncomfortable procedures, even in the registry (very clear instructions please). I'd appreciate any help that anyone is kind enough to offer.
In Windows 7, "Documents & settings" are not a real folder but a point of redirection for poorly designed applications.
Your files are in C:\Users\YourUserName\

Access denied on a "documents and settings" folder in windows 7 with administrator rights
I get access denied on the ' c: \documents and settings "in windows 7 with administrator rights. The icon shows a small lock on the (very cute) folder. Permissions indicate full control to the folder. I can only access the contents of the folder by adding it to the library folder. The computer is fairly recent and is very near of the original factory. Unlike my precious computers I left it mostly original except for the odd new program. I never really noticed when it pops up as I was getting used to format windows 7 and thought that it must be "the new way" to 7 " The disk has been partitioned by Asus, which significantly added to the confusion. Now I think that it why documents and settings would be in the same folder anyway? What is a level administrator uber folder? Any ideas greatly appreciated.
"Documents and Settings" are not a folder - it's a junction Point.
It is there to allow legacy applications using the latest Windows 7 folder structure.
There is nothing in what you can use.

I am the administrator of my new computers. I just upgraded from XP to Windows 7. Why don't I have access to all parts of my computer? i.e. folders in documents and settings, etc. How can I change this?
Hello
Since Windows XP, in the last several versions of Windows, there are many changes for the names and locations of some Windows system folders .
To ensure compatibility with older programs, these older cases have been replaced by The junction Points. A junction Point is designed to redirect programs more alumni who are hard coded to look for the former name of folder for the new file name and the location in Windows.
An example is the C:\Documents and Settings folder. The new name and the location of this folder is C:\Users. In Windows 8, you will see a folder C:\Documents and Settings , but it should be noted that this record contains a shortcut arrow on the folder icon. He identifies it as a junction.
Junction points all than its guarantee of value everyone = access denied.
Note: Do not attempt to modify the security settings on a junction. This can cause programs to stop work and possibly corrupt the file system.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

c:\Documents and settings is not accessible. Access is denied
Even if my user account appears under my being the administrator, it is still not allow me access to my documents and settings files. It is said to "c:\documents and settings is not accessible. Access is denied. "When I came to my computer, I know I opened at least two accounts, both with full administrator access, and yet the account opens is called"Judy"which is my name and at the same time, I'm sure to set up he asked me who has computer it was, so I wrote my name, but when I connect to my computer the account that opens is called"Judy"that even if I never named an account, it is still the only account he allows me to open. When I go to the command prompt to change user names, the screen goes black, and this same account "Judy" appears towards the top and asks for my password. Simply, it will not show two accounts that I actually put in place. I followed the instructions from the answer to someone else who has had a similar problem and he showed how you can determine if the account you are using is a standard or administrative account. I did what told him to do and he came that Judy was indeed an administrator account. I was also able to show the names of all accounts on this computer and stood in the two accounts I made, of which none were called Judy, so I know that these accounts are in there, somewhere and why they are not listed when I ask to change user accounts is a mystery to me. I've been going around in circles with this. Everybody out there familiar with this kind of madness? Any help is appreciated.
Documents and Settings is not a real file in Windows 7. It is a junction which is configured to allow existing programs to interface with the Windows 7 folder structure.
Instead, Windows 7 uses these files:
C:\Users\*your User Name * \My Documents
and
Username C:\Users\*Your * \Appdata
(appdata is a hidden folder)
Look in C:\Users to see which accounts exist.
Also you can access the control panel > user accounts to edit.

I am connected with administrator rights. How is access is denied?
Hello Qtermile14.
In Windows Vista, the Documents and Settings folder is not a real file. It's just a junction for compatibility, that is why its hidden. Your files are now living in the users folder.
