Why Windows 8 now * force * update you 8.1?

I am outraged by this morning realize that on * two * of my machines, Windows took upon himself to download and install Windows 8.1. This is ridiculous, I have a course of very limited download (25 GB per month), and as such the Go ~ 10 download for two of my machines the rest of my use of the internet. Now, because my internet is slowed down to 256 Kbps, I am unable to finish the job that requires an internet connection.

I find that completely unacceptable, I had made a conscious decision not upgrading to 8.1 Windows until Microsoft decided to make it compulsory for users to download ~ 4GB for each computer that is running Windows 8.

I'm looking for answers to determine why Microsoft thinks it has the power to perform large downloads without my prior consent.

Thank you.

Not an answer, but a comment.  It happened to me two days ago.  I have only a 10 GB download monthly, so the 3.5 GB download is a big piece.  I didn't want it.  I clicked on install later.  I remembered the next day to install.  The next day (yesterday) he says that if I have not installed then I must do today!  I'm waiting for the message today with some trepidation.  Things always seem to go wrong.

  • Why windows 7 cannot install updates?

Whenever I stop, I get a message: installation of the updates. Do not turn off your computer. Eventually the computer "installs" 4 updates and stops, but the next time it is turned on it says prepare to set up windows. 0% complete. This "hangs" for a while, then I get the newspaper account individual users on the screen and everything seems to work OK. Please try to reset the Windows Update components to download and saving the Fixit on this page - How to reset the Windows Update components?

Once the download is complete, close all open programs and browsers.
Now run MicrosoftFixit50202.msi and choose it is the default mode.
When he has finished to see if running the system can search, detect, download, and install updates.

If no joy, then suggest that you Configure the system to boot .
After the reboot to clean boot state, run the Fixit once more and choose it's aggressive mode.
When it has finished running see if the system can be updated while still in the State of clean boot, including rebooting the system to see if the 'coup' persists.

    * Suggest that you leave an update to do later when the system is running in Windows normal mode. *

NOTE: In the clean boot state will be disabled all firewalls of part 3.
Make sure that the native firewall of Windows 7 is now on.

If the 'coup' does not occur when the system has been updated in the clean boot state after running the Fixit, then cancel the clean boot procedure, and then restart in normal Windows mode.
Now let's see if the rest update one installs correctly.

If the question of the hanging is still underway in the clean boot state, then please copy and paste the last lines of 50 or more WindowsUpdate.log in your response - How to read the Windowsupdate.log file

If the problem only occurs in Windows normal mode, then 3rd party software is the most likely cause.

  • Why windows 8.1 used updated work on the pro version of the 'store '?

I installed windows 8 two weeks ago and today I am updating in the store (my computer told me to update as it is available). I went to the store and he said that he could not download 8.1 since I am a company or a multi-license version. What should I do to make the update available?

No, the distributions of license in Volume of Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro and Enterprise using KMS and MAK licenses should be updated by downloading the installation files for Windows 8.1 since the volume or TechNet/MSDN license health center if you have a subscription or install based on the settings of your employers.

You cannot update these distributions by the store.

You cannot uninstall Defender - it is a part of the operating system.

To install MSE should properly to completely shut down Defender, because it contains an improved version of it. It is therefore likely that something has blocked the operation of MSE, or at least of its Setup program.

My best guess is that you need to uninstall MSE and then run the removal tools for ANY other antivirus you have EVER had installed on this computer, and then reinstall MSE again. Norton and McAfee are particularly bad for this kind of problem. I also suggest uninstalling MBAM while MSE is being installed - just in case there is a conflict.

  • FAQ (26): I installed a different version/version of Windows and now SDM will not show me updates.

I installed a different version/version of Windows and now the SDM does not work in "Update" mode

This can occur when some system that HP did not specifically tests with the model is installed and often happens with models and Windows Ultimate edition (or even 64-bit editions on some older models) before Windows 8 Ultimate.

Because SDM detects the new operating system, but it cannot match in the SDM catalog, he (SDM) will disable mode "Update."  However, please note that you can still use SDM mode 'All products' to download your SoftPaqs by doing as follows (the Probook 4730 s is used as an example):

    1. Press the "view all products" in the SDM toolbar
    2. If a dialog box warning that "no operating system have been selected, then skip to step.
    3. Press OK to close the dialog box.
    4. Check the «Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64 Edition»
    5. Click on the tab "language filter".
    6. 'English - International' is checked.
    7. Press the OK button.
    8. Now, expand the tree on the left side of the SDM application by selecting the following:
    9. HP Probook Notebook PC Series 4700
    10. HP Probook 4730 s Notebook PC
    11. Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Edition 64
    12. Check the box 'international - English.
    13. Press the button "find available SoftPaqs.
    14. After "things calm down", click on the button "See the last SoftPaqs" at the top right of the application of SDM.

The latest list of the Softpaqs for your model should now be displayed. We recommend that you download all listed SoftPaqs. This whole new way SoftPaqs are released for this model will appear on the top list titled "Available SoftPaqs" display.

To install a SoftPaq after downloading, do the SoftPaq to the ListView "Downloaded SoftPaqs" right click and select "install SoftPaq.

Important note: most SoftPaqs listed using the method above should apply to your model, but a small number of SoftPaqs might not be applicable to your model due to the offers of different material for your model. This means that not all listed SoftPaqs will install on your model and that is normal.

I got a new open word doc and is logged when Windows Vista did an update automatically and restart, now I seem to have lost! Any suggestions? A system restore wouldn't work?

If you have not saved the document before the reboot - and Windows always give a lot of warning before restarting automatically - while the file disappeared.  There is no way to recover; System Restore does apply to system files, not data.

Updated Windows and now I can not run other programs on my PC!  What can I do?

    Hello

    ·          Update you installed before the problem?

    ·          Do you have a code error message when you try to run any program?

If the issue took place recently, you can perform a system restore that will repair return the computer to the point while it was working fine.

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next.

    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

    4. click on finish.

Note: When you perform the system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.
