Windows 7 - disable titlebar gradient

I did get the results out of my attempt to customize Windows 7. I wish to have more variation in color between the active and inactive windows and I want the ride of the gradient because it makes the text hard to read.

Here is what I tried
1. right click on desktop, personalize, window color and appearance
2 disable the transparency and the intensity of the color set to max
3. click on advanced appearance settings. I have the dialog box Windows-XP window color and appearance of old.
4. remove the gradient from the title bars (make the colors both the same) and do the inactive and active title bars very distinct.
It seems that any changes in the steps #3 and 4 are not in what I see in fact completely. OK, well they work a little, sort of, text color, I chose for the Active window appears in fact as the color of the Inactive window. And that text appears in the window title bar inactive with a halo around it. I don't want that.
Comments and suggestions are appreciated.

I solved this by selecting the Windows Classic theme under Basic and high contrast themes. It is now very XP - ish. Not the optimal result. I wish I could change just one part of the theme.

  • Unknown problem caused media player to close and that to protect my Media Player Windows has disabled skins

    Original title: "skins".
I recently downloaded a lot of skins from the microsoft Web site, and it worked very well for about an hour. Then I saw a skin called 'come back' I don't not download but recalled seeing in my default skins that were already installed. I wanted to see what it was and when I did caused a problem which I can't specify because the notification window remained only until fairly long for me to see (in a nutshell) "unknown problem caused media player to close and to protect my Media Player Windows has disabled skins. Now, I spent over 3 hours to try each answer in the forums for this issue and not one worked for me. I am running Windows Vista Home Basic and I can't find a way to reactivate my skin so that I can use only skins working know is the company and changing the skin that caused the problem. I tried deleting and reinstalling all the skins again, but again does not help. I tried to do a right click on the skin to go to properties to activate as suggested in the forums, but when I right click on it nothing happens. So now I have like 20 downloaded skins but the only way that they work is if I download again and choose to view them, but if I try to change the playlist or switch to full mode then it goes to firm skin and I download it again to get the one I want. I am so frustrated with this problem which I think should be a very easy thing to fix, but nothing I try works. Please help me. Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

I use Norton anti-virus for nearly a decade.  For this reason, I have not installed Windows Security, as it is in conflict.  I do every week a routine Windows Update.  Two nights ago, it looks like Windows Update automatically installed Windows security without my permission.  This has created a huge conflict with Norton anti-virus, various alerts of infection appeared and my network of connections have been disabled.  I had no choice but to do a system restore and disable Windows Update altogether.  I want to update Windows for occasional useful bugfixes, but cannot take the risk of extreme hassle of security of Windows being installed without my permission.  Any ideas?

So far, the system restore and the sweet Norton seems to have fixed.  But he was mean.

Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows. Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!

HOW to do a clean install of Win7: see "using the custom installation option" and formatting the hard drive section of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-7

NOTE: If your computer came with a set of disks, there is a hidden partition restore (not to be confused with the restoration of the system) you would use to do the clean install (AKA a "destructive recovery").

After the new installation, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of EVERYTHING on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) AND BEFORE to plug in a flash, SD card, or any other external drive to the computer otherwise:

You MUST uninstall the trial for free AND download/run the Norton removal tool before installing updates, Windows Service Packs or updates to IE AND BEFORE installing your new anti-virus application (which will require WinXP SP3 must be installed).

    Reposted
Hi, after updated windows updated 10/19/09 my graphics card has been disabled (nVidia GeForce 9300GE). I tried to activate the device, prompting the update driver, and the update failed to install the device became "not recognized".  I restored the system before the update and everything was ok until the PC has been stopped and restarted.  I have been through the process of restoring about 6 times, each time, try another way of preventing recurrence for example turn off the automatic updates, uninstall KB915597, etc., but nothing works. Is there a permanent solution to this mess?
PS my system is Vista on a 64-bit AMD Phenom X 4 processor.

    Hello

read this information on the Defender:

    ·                         If you use microsoft security essentials avg avira mcafee norton etc they disable the vista version of windows defender by default

the basics of Microsoft security has its own version of windows defender

and other anti-virus programs use their own particular type of application to scan for spyware and malware

It of nothing to worry and is the default action, which is designed for them to do

If the above does not apply to your machine to read the information on the below link on how to disable the windows defender service in vista or make an autostart to enable

and here is the method to remove it from startup in vista

    http://www.groovypost.com/HOWTO/Microsoft/Vista/remove-Windows-Defender-from-Vista-system-startup/

and this is how you would normally activate or disable windows defender in vista from within defenders of own and options tools

and read this information to microsoft:

Error message when you run Windows Defender: «Error 0x800106ba»

and if you need to change startup programs read this information on the other methods of doing it without using defender
