Windows-7 Pro for Windows - 7 Pro via Easy Transfer?

I would try to use Easy Transfer to clean my Windows 7 Pro install.

Can I run Easy Transfer on my Windows 7 Pro system, reformat the hard drive, reinstall Windows - 7 Pro and run Easy Transfer to recharge, less junk?

Thanks in advance.

You may notice that if you do as Andre suggested, your programs will not be kept, and each of them will need to be reinstalled.

Transfer files and settings with Windows Easy Transfer in Windows 8

Windows easy transfer supports several methods to transfer your files and settings.
You can use Windows easy transfer to transfer information to a computer running Windows 8 computers with one of the following operating systems:
    • Windows 8
    • Windows 7
    • Windows Vista
    • Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Service Pack 3 (SP3)
NOTE: Windows Easy Transfer cannot transfer files between a 64-bit version of Windows and a 32-bit version of Windows. Instead, the files must be transferred manually using external storage devices. To find the version of Windows on your computer, see the is the Version on my computer 32-bit or 64-bit Windows
    ? support document.
Step 1: Determine the best method of transfer

When you transfer files between Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 computers, choose a method that works on both computers. Windows easy transfer supports the following transfer methods:
    • External hard drive or USB flash drive: to use a USB flash drive, you need a USB port on each computer. If you use an external hard drive, it must be compatible with both computers.
    • Easy transfer cable: you need a special USB cable designed to work with Windows 8 and Windows Easy Transfer and a USB port on each computer. If you don't have an easy transfer cable, you can order one online or get one at an electronics store. The easy transfer cable is supported on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 computers.
NOTE standard USB cable: A cannot be used to transfer files and settings between computers.

    • Network: both computers must be connected to the same cable or wireless network and both computers must be able to share files and folders.

To decide which method to use, consider the amount of information you will sit. If you are transferring everything from all users on the computer, or all of your user account files, an easy transfer cable, external hard drive or a network works well. If you transfer only a few files or folders, a USB works well.
Step 2: Open Windows Easy Transfer on the new computer in Windows 8.1

All the following steps on the new computer from Windows 8 to open Windows Easy Transfer. You must be logged in using an administrator account.

I tried for two days to use Easy Transfer to migrate files on my old computer (Vista) to my new computer (Win7).  Using the WET Migration Wizard process, I copied Windows Easy Transfer several times on a flash drive and subsequently downloaded to the old computer.  Said Assistant click the shortcut to transfer files (on the old computer) to get the WET key.  Once again, I did this several times, but have never had no answer except a half a second box that is gone before I can read what is said.  I have only one monitor and am using an easy transfer cable to see what files are on both computers.  So far, using the easy transfer cable has got me nowhere as much as it has announced to its use (file transfer) is concerned.  Ideas for this end-user desperate dilemma?

    • Windows 7 Pro. Using Easy Transfer

      How to use easy transfer

      Good question:

I used Windows Easy Transfer at least a hundred times - literally.  It works very well.  I've never had it mess up a system.  It takes time to run and could be hours if you have a lot of data.   So please be patient.

Please understand at the outset that the DATA is what is transferred.  Applications or programs must be installed separately on the new system.  It is best if you first install the applications.

WET gathers all DATA from specific locations on the old system, as well as all custom settings that you use from the old computer and produces a great big file that is stored on an external drive.  Then when you connect this same external drive to the new computer and run WET and identify yourself as a new, it copies all data in the right places.

WET is a very good program.  However, hedge your bets and make a backup of the data from the old also.

The Acronis program that you are probably referring is something completely different.  He makes an exact copy of the drive installed in the old that you can then copy to the new computer drive.  IT WOULD BE A BIG MISTAKE!  Big mistake because all the drivers and related to the new computer software would be replaced by the bad stuff from the old.  That imaging process is better used on the new computer before loading your programs or data.  The image is an insurance policy that can be used to re - build your computer should it become irreparably damaged or you need to replace the hard drive.

I hope it's clear.  If this is not the case, just ask.

    • using recovery drive after upgrade to 8.1 pro via the pro pack

I ordered a HP envy 15 TS precoonfigured j - 100 quad system during Black Friday pre sales - this machine has everything I need except Pro 8.1. I intend to upgrade the operating system to 8.1 pro by buying and installing the Pack Pro Micorsoft Windows 8.1.

      My questions are:

      (1) only the installation/upgrade generates a new file recovery?

      (2) if my system breaks down and I need to reinstall windows 8.1 via the recovery disk, what is the sequence of steps to restore my system Pro 8.1.

Upgrade to Windows Pro 8.1 does not generate a new recovery file. I suggest that you create a recovery disk before moving on to the pro.

If the system breaks down in the future, you can use the recovery disk and restore the system as long as the plant and try the upgrade to pro again.

      (2) system to upgrade to Win 7 Enterprise.
