Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit hangs during antivirus and backup system analysis

I have problems with my PC. Last night, before retiring for the night, I noticed that Microsoft Security Essentials icon is yellow and warning me that my computer was in danger and had not been scanned for viruses for awhile. Normally it is set to run automatically on a schedule, but it does not work if my computer is set to go to sleep after a period of inactivity (which is because I want to save energy). So I have to manually run the virus scan. I have it set to run a FULL scan and then went to bed. In the morning, I noticed that my computer has been completely closed. It would normally be asleep and she simply by moving my mouse wake up. I had to hit the power button on my PC to start upward. The warning message that Windows did not close properly displayed and gave me the boot options. I just booted normally. As the virus scan has been the last thing my computer did the night before, I decided to try to run a FULL scan again. It crashed my PC. I started again and tried a QUICK analysis, which worked well. I searched "Microsoft Security Essentials plant system" and found a recent instance with someone else, and after more detailed diagnosis, they determined that it was probably a failing hard drive or a bad memory. The recommendation was immediately back up their system of hard drive and replace it.

Before you run any Diagnostics to determine my culprit, I decided to start a backup system just to be safe. I ran Windows Backup and choose "Create a system image" and he has done on an external hard drive on a USB3 docking station. He got about 90% through the backup, then my system crashed. No error message, just a full stop.

Unfortunately, a not save the link to the original set of instructions to diagnose why the system crashed during the anti-virus scan.

Now I ask... What can I do to save my system if it crashes my computer?

Hi Greg,.

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand that the system hangs when a complete analysis of how MSE or backup system and I'll be happy to answer your query. This could be due to MSE not updated and that's why he showed the yellow icon. We will try the following methods and check.

Method 1: Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) update

For update to MSE, please see: How to manually download the latest Microsoft Security Essentials definition updates

Here are some methods that you can try in order to solve the problem.

Method 1: Perform the clean boot and check.

To help resolve the error message, you can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Please note: After troubleshooting, be sure to start your computer in normal mode by following step 3.

Method 2: Clean boot material and check.

a. go to Start and type Device Manager in the start search field.
b. type Device Managerand select Device Manager from the list programs.
c. right click on the sound card, video card and NIC, one by one, then click on disable.
c. restart the computer.

If it solves your problem, allow hardware devices that in time to find the exact device originally this problem. After you find the device that causes the problem you can solve by installing the latest driver or replacement of the device.

Method 3: Do restore the system from the Windows recovery environment and verify.

What is system restore?

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/what-is-system-restore

Important: System Restore will return all your files non-system as documents, email, music, etc., to a previous state. These files of types are completely affected by the restoration of the system. If it was your intention with this tool to recover a deleted file to non-system, try using a file instead of system restore recovery program.

If the problem persists, or you have questions about Windows, do not hesitate to let us know. It is our pleasure to be of service.

I changed the sata connection cable my HD to the MB. I did a Windows repair (scannow) and also done a repair install and it did not help. • Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit freezes on startup after the last update.

I think I have updated a major problem with the latest update from microsoft.

I've been running windows 7 ultimate 64-bit for over a month now, as I received it for a launch party I was the host.

That's all works fine but a few nights ago, he just stopped from upward, it just hangs at 'Starting Windows' screen, the windows logo does not yet appear.  He would not go into safe mode and startup repair couldn't do anything.

This happened right after that I had installed a windows update, but I thought that nothing of all this at once, but one of my friends mentioned that their windows vista pc did the same thing after the last update, still, I don't think not that it was bound.

I had no other way to get the things on my hard drive, so I tried to reinstall windows on top of the old, it does not work either.

I gave up, I formatted the hard drive last night and just reinstalled.
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit,
    NVidia graphics driver
    Microsoft Security Essentials,
    Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate,
    Apple's iTunes and Quicktime.

The computer worked so very well, so this morning I came back to it, it was working fine, there was a box saying that a windows update was waiting to be installed, I clicked it, it was of course a big one because it was the first for this new install to get.  When he asked me to restart, I did, he went through his usual routine and now, as I sit typing this, I am facing screen "starting windows" frozen again.

My processor is an Intel Pentium D
I have 4 GB of RAM.

There is obviously something wrong dangerously with the last update of windows, were there any other reports of this?

Too, I recently had problems with Win 7 freeze on me. After you have uninstalled all the updates I had installed on 24 December 2011, 1 update could not be uninstalled and it was the update to sp1 of windows 7. After you have uninstalled all updates (except SP1 cause could not be uninstalled) I tried to play again the media and my system hang or aka freeze for a few seconds, and this happened even when I was gaming.  I had a lot of problems after that update, including any media type of videos to play just thrown music windows media player. After restoring my computer to a previous state (before that the updates have been installed) now my computer works normal again. So, for those of you having problems with windows and your way of thinking too yourself Uggghhh, why he did this? Well this is the service pack 1, windows now, I don't know any alternative to restore your computer to an earlier date before the updates took place, and if you don't have a win 7 is pretty smart and im sure they have a restore to the factory settings. These are the only options that helped me get rid of my system hanging up. I hope this helps some people and I'm sorry I can't guide you threw it and the steps how to restore your comp because of parameters factory all the comps are different.

  • Disconnect external USB key using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit

Whatever the USB that I connect to my desktop PC Windows 7 continualy disconnects readers. I tested many drives, but when tested on my laptop using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit all these exact same drives work perfectly.

My office is using and Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz with 3 GB of memory.

I've read this complaint anywhere on the Internet and I tried several fixes with no positive results. All the drivers are up to date. I uninstalled and reinstalled until I'm blue in the face.

What I read during my research, it seems that this is a common problem that 64-bit users are complaining a lot, but that's obviously a problem with the 32-bit version of Windows 7 as well. Many tech Internet sites also claim that it is ONLY a problem on the desktop and not on laptops, which I guess I confirmed in my tests.

Everyone does experience, and if anyone has found a fix?

    Thank you.

  • Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit version won't complete installation

This one is makes me crazy, everything first, here are the specs of the system on which I'm trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit version:

    Core 2 Extreme QX9650

    Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6

Patriot Viper 4GB DDR3 1800 Dual Channel Kit

    Gigabyte GV - R4870X2 Radeon HD 4870 X 2 2 GB video card

    Zalman 850W PSU

    1 WD Raptor HD 320

    WD 640GB HD 1

Now the problem, I had been running Vista Ultimate on the above system and I built a new system I put Windows 7 64 bit on and I liked it well enough to spring for another copy of the 64 bit version of Windows 7. I backed up all my files on an external hard drive and put it on the side to ensure the guard. I then install the new OS of all wipe out to get a clean installation fee. Everything was moving along fine until it came to the point where it was finished installing where it seemed to hang for a while but it was finally restarted, but from there he should have me screens for the key code and my info to enter but I got was a black screen and yet my cursor was there and I could move around. I waited a bit and nothing past that was far from the ease with which it is installed on my new build. I restarted and it took me to the screen where you can choose to start windows in safe mode or normal mode, I tried both ways. Only, he went up and then stopped. I thought that maybe I had a damaged disc, so I got out my new computers Windows disk to see if it would install and I thought that if that was the case I had a damaged disc, but he did the same thing as the disc I tried first. Then I went back to my Vista disk and this 'thing' installed as there was nothing for her. Needless to say I'm stumped on this one.

Any ideas on what I should try next?

I should have gotten back sooner, but I finally got the problem fixed. I went to a new ATI video card a 5500 series and Windows 7 installed without a hitch. I downloaded the latest driver for cards in time, and it has been fine since. I hooked it up to my HDTV via a HDMI cable, so I can watch the DVD and Blu - ray movies. It works like a charm. Problem solved.
