Windows 7 - updated interfere with anti-virus and Internet connection
Windows updates frequently stop my internet connection. It's using windows7 with a wireless router and a cable modem broadband. Updates have also stopped my work (Norton) security protection. What can I do to stop what is happening or is it Microsoft?

1. when exactly it happens? After you install a particular update?
2. this happens whenever you install a windows update?
3. the updates you are trying to install? http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/see-which-Windows-updates-are-installed
Step 1: You can try to install the windows updates in the clean boot state and check what is happening.
Put your boot system helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.
Try the steps in step 1 in the article to put your computer in clean boot mode.

Windows security updates knows about Anti - virus software
When the updates are downloaded to Windows Defender, firewall and other things, it knock out my Antivirus Microtrend. Updates of Windows on my computer Vista firewall and Windows Defender interferes with my microtrend Antivirus software, so it no longer works?
After the last update automatic this month by windows, my Microtrend disappeared completely and he worked since August 2011. I had to contact Microtrend and download everything again. Now I have to approve all of your updates, why is it happening?
When my firewall is off, my computer automatically shuts down when I go on the internet why?
This forum is for Microsoft Security Essentials.
Since you use TrendMicro (Microtrend?), you really need to contact them for further assistance.
You should not have more than one active anti-malware running program. It will cause conflicts performace issues and will result in less protection.
Stand-alone on demand scanners is OK.
If you use Microtrend (TrendMicro?), you should not run Windows Defender.

Intermittent problem with IP addresses and internet connections dropped
Once a day or so my PC (Win7) will not be able to access the internet. Connection just drops. I use DHCP for IP addresses.
As far as I can see in the Event Viewer I get these types of errors "the address lease IP 192.168.1.64 for the network card with network 0x406186808C4C address was rejected by the 192.168.0.1 DHCP server (the DHCP server sent a DHCPNACK message)."
My local network is simply: PC-online router (Cisco E1200)-online internet (modem Siemens SpeedStream 4100 DSL)
"When this happens, we run ' ipconfig - release 'then' ipconfig - renew." This usually fixes the problem. Sometimes, this does not solve the problem, and we need also the modem power cycle. In a few minutes find us the internet connection. It's nice to have a manual correction, but we want to solve this problem to happen... as is the engine of our family crazy...
The address LAN IP of the modem is set to 192.168.0.1
The address LAN IP of the router is set to 192.168.2.1
When things are running OK, I usually see it in the ' ipconfig-all the ' results: = 192.168.2.147 IPv4 address (Preferred) [but the IP numbers change slightly] my understanding is that see "Present" in the result is a good thing (but I don't know why...).
Any thoughts on what is happening? and how to permanently solve this problem?
I'm also confused on IPv4 and IPv6. Should I be concerned with any information of IPv6 in the ipconfig-all the results?
Thanks for the help
Talked with the ISP (ATT). Zig - zag, you were on the problem. I had both modem and router set to DHCP mode... so I had some conflicts. The solution was to define the "bridge mode" dsl modem and configure the router to "PPPoE mode. Everything works now. Thanks for your help.

My computer is infected with a virus/bug I have checkd with Anti virus few records showed infected but could not withdraw, step by step programs stoped working, I tried all the things microsoft Web and other webs to run antispy etc, but nothing works programs start, but halfway to display error and stop now even explore stop working, now I had a white windoa screen opens more but I have a lot of data that is important, how to fix it? can anyone help please thanks
Raz2009,
If you have a known problem with the virus then I suggest to get an antivirus program that you can boot from and run it without starting Windows.Another option would be to format your drive and do a clean install of Windows (this would remove all the data of your drive). If you have a backup of your data, this is the best course of action. If you do not have a backup, you can then do a parallel install (This installs XP in a different folder if you don't lose any data). Here is an article on installation options: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941

Vista premium operating system? need to use AVG anti virus and pc tune up?
I have an older laptop OS Vista premium and AVG anti virus and p c tune up.
I realize are now 8.1 W not the product AVG; can I rely on Windows defender disc cleanup, Defragmenter (and others I don't know) to protect the laptop? and remove AVG as I did on my most recent portable W8.1 mind?
Thank you
FOR EXAMPLE
Hello TedGibney,
As in earlier versions of Windows, for example, the Bill said Windows Defender, Vista only acts as an Anti-Spyware. It was only in later additions of Windows that Microsoft has added anti virus ability.
As you have used AVG before I would suggest that you follow this anti virus application, when you are running Windows Vista.
About PC Tune Up it would be wise to not use that, like many Tune Up / registry cleaners these applications can cause more problems than they actually heal.

Downloaded the latest Windows 7 update yesterday, November 3, 2009 and lost all my "Favorites" in MSN. Also, when I do a reboot, the Verizon FIOS Media Manager starts. Only the downloaded last update - has nothing else. Please notify
Yes I have FIOS Media Manager installed, but I've done since the start of Windows 7. For the first week or so it does not start on my download restarts. It started with this Nov 3 update from Microsoft. I went to downloads and there were two of them; Update for Internet Explorer 8 for x 64 based and updated Windows Defender definition.
After you install these two updates on restart FIOS M.M. was live at startup and my favorite MSN have disappeared. I disabled FIOS M.M., but somehow, he has been activated with this download. I went on my drive external backup and recovered the Favorites but am always intrigued by this phenomenon and how it changed my registry.

Please help me identify anti virus and personal firewall on my computer software. I don't know where to find the information required for the notification of security
Since you have posted in Forum Vista, I will assume that you are using the Vista operating system.
You can get this information by navigating to the 'Start' menu and selecting 'Security Center' in the 'Control Panel', then you should be able to see what is running (antivirus/antimalware) under the tab "Malware Protection".
