(3) If you see updates failed try to run the Windows update Troubleshooter and check.

See this Microsoft article:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-8/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates

Method 2:

Also, try to run the network troubleshooter and check if it helps:

1. open the network troubleshooter utility by sliding into the right edge of the screen,

2. click on Search (or if you use a mouse, pointing to the top right of the screen, move the pointer of the mouse down and then click on Search).

3. tap network troubleshooting in the search box, click on settings,

4. and then click identification and repair of network problems.

Let us know if you get an error message. Also refer to this article:why I can't connect to the Internet?

  • 8.1 Windows Pro update the problem (from Windows 8 Pro) on Envy 23 TouchSmart all-in-One...

    Hello

I have a HP Envy 23 Touchsmart all-in-one that I bought a year ago (12/2012). It comes preinstalled with Windows 8.

    System information:

    (a) Intel (r) Core i7 - 3770 S CPU @ 3.10 GHz

    (b) 8192 MB of RAM

A few weeks after that I had bought the system, I've upgraded to Windows 8 Pro with Media Center that I bought through Microsoft upgrade program.

Last week (19/10/2013), I saw the option upgrade to Windows 8. 1 in the store and decided to upgrade.

After a few minutes, I got a prompt asking me to restart the computer, and I did.

However, I noticed that the screen has turned white, but it restarts not really - I have seen that the hard drive light was still flashing and I waited for about 15 minutes. I know it does not restart because if that were the case I would have seen the HP logo on the screen of the BIOS. A little later, the system entered into mode 'sleep' (at least the light blinked slowly as if it was the sleep). As it was late at night, I decided to leave the system alone and decided to check on it the next morning. The next morning, he was still in mode 'sleep' (as I feared) - when I tried to wake up from her sleep by moving the mouse/hit the return key, he did the exact sounds as if he were to wake up from its sleep (as it always does), but the screen is still blank. The light power button lit up constantly indicating he's awake now.

At this point, I decided to turn off the system by holding the button for a few seconds. To restart, I saw the HP logo on the BIOS boot screen and the screen went white and nothing came.

So I decided do a system recovery using my Windows 8 recovery CD and turn off the system with the CD in its niche. This time, the system came and began immediately to restore my OS to a previous version.

After connecting to the system recovered, I received the following message:

"Could not update for Windows 8.1.

Sorry, we could not complete the update Windows 8.1. We have restored the previous version of Windows on this computer.

    0xC1900101 - 0 x 40019.

I tried to reinstall Windows 8.1 a couple of times after that. Once to disable all non-Microsoft services and disabling all startup programs. Always the same result.

I have no antivirus software on my other system protection of Microsoft default system software.

    Any help, greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

I have disabled active secure boot existing starter and the update worked.  Now we get the error of watermark "secure boot not configured correctly.  But I have re-enabled secure boot and the error disappeared.

  • Deleted Windows Vista Update wireless network adapter

I had restore the computer to the old version after update.  Once the update has been made the computer could not see the wireless network card.  Any ideas?

Go to the website of the manufacturer of your computer/network/computer adapter laptop > drivers and downloads Section > key in your model number > look for the latest Vista drivers > download/install them.

The computer you are using now if you have an Internet connection with the other > download / save drivers > copy them into Flash Drive > transfer / install on another computer/laptop.

  • Problem installing KB980408 - set up the parameters for custom: Windows Desktop Update

After installing KB980408, the computer restarts, goes through the normal boot process, displays the Windows logo, and then goes to a black screen with a window:

Implementation of the custom settings for:

    The Windows Desktop Update

and stay on it indefinitely (4 + hours so far). Moving the mouse on the screen shows the circular cursor "wait", and I am able to move the window around; I am also able to start the Task Manager and restart, but that's all.

So I thought another reboot may solve the problem, but it doesn't... it keeps just hung to this window.

No matter who else affected by it, or have solutions to try?

I had this same problem on both machines. During his connection, this behavior began immediately after the KB980408 update has been installed. The solution I found is to ctrl + alt + delete, start taskmgr and kill the task of custom settings. Then you have to manually run explorer.exe (file--> Run--> Explorer.exe) and windows should load as usual. The next time that I rebooted and logged in Windows loaded as usual. I'm guessing that this problem is a "run once" task. However, updates are not supposed to make your computer more stable?

  • Windows XP svchost.exe problems. Cannot find the latest updates for windows xp.

Hello, this is my first time on the Microsoft Community page.

I have a very strange problem with automatic updates svchost.exe and windows. I know that automatic update of windows, has been known to cause problems on XP and there is thus CPU utilization of memory leaks. Last night, I tried to install the latest windows XP updates, with automatic tool. The tool hanged during the process. Not sure why exactly. I never had a problem with it. I've been running Xp SP 3 for more than five years. In any case, I rebooted my system and checked to see if the updates actually treatment. They do not have. Then I went to the windowsupdate.microsoft site. I was trying to these updates. The scan never completed, he just constantly checked, for about 45 minutes. I decided to do some research. I found the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder "fix" online. He kicked, I renamed the file. And then disabled auto updates and restarted my computer. After windows starts, I re-activated automatic updates and waited. Nothing happened, so I did some research more. I noticed that svchost.exe uses about 25% the use of the processor. Normally my treated systemidle is 99%. I used Process explore and isolated the wuauclt.exe under the svchost.exe file. When I disable automatic updates executable, it is up to a full 99%.

I'm not sure why it uses 25%, when I look at the actual use of the memory for the wuauclt.exe, it is only using about 17 k of memory. Which is quite low. I have not turned on microsoft update, starting in the configurations of parameters at windowsupdate. I know that in the past, that has been a problem and swallowed up system resources.

Any advice would be helpful. Thank you in advance.

There are a lot of threads on this forum - and many others - this problem - just try to do a Google search for UPDATES of XP SVCHOST - hits now more than 8 million.

But to save you the trouble of tracking down the fix OK here is the short version

    1. disable automatic updates using Control Panel icon

    2. restart the computer - SVCHOST is now not going crazy

    3. check which version of Internet Explorer you have installed IE8, IE7 or IE6

    4. download and install - the links below - the good update for Internet Explorer.

Assuming you have Windows XP 32 bits here are the direct download links:

    IE8: IE8-WindowsXP-KB2898785 - x 86 - ENU.exe
    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=41404

    IE7: IE7-WindowsXP-KB2898785 - x 86 - ENU.exe
    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=41442

    IE6: WindowsXP-KB2898785 - x 86 - ENU.exe
    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=41458

    5. Once installed, you can reactivate the automatic updates and using Windows Update.

Note: The bug also affects access via Windows/Microsoft Update Web site.

KB2898785 is the "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer" (December 10, 2013)

There is a bug in the function of automatic update under XP running the SVCHOST process at full CPU load (100% or 50% or 25% depending on the number of CPU cores you have). If you have a Quad core CPU the bug works the CPU at 25% (a carrot out of four) and eventually battles through a conclusion - but if your computer is a single old Celeron or Pentium bug works the CPU chip at 100% load for many, many h/solid.

Faster your processor and RAM than you seem to make a radical difference to the actual times are waiting for you maybe search for updates complete. Most of the old core systems were never designed to deal with this kind of situation and can easily overheat. This is especially true of laptops and desktop systems older where the radiator can be partially blocked with fluff and hairs of animals - which could cause blockages or stops!

Microsoft said last month that the updates of Internet Explorer are treated differently from all the other updates - which is originally the XP update engine run so slowly as to appear frozen. If the update service finds that you don't have the latest version of IE that is currently available, it starts to search the entire tree of updates of IE to see what it takes - rather than offering just the cumulative current update for your system.

But if you manually install the update yourself update Internet Explorer service is fully updated and is not search for updates of IE. But until Ms. fix it will still occur whenever a new update is published.

MS said that intend to prune the IE updates database so that only the main cumulative updates have been offered when a search has been launched - it did not in time for the update as it should of November and obviously has not arrived or worked either in time for the December Update!

MS say they hope to have a fix before the January updates are released (Patch Tuesday) - that the problem will be activated once the next update Cumulative of IE is released.

If your computer is hijacked, then you should address that more that you need to fix this minor update. However, under the resolution of your problem to update, you can try this:

    Assume Windows XP

Check the C:\Windows\System32\ directory for the presence of the file tzchange.exe

If the file is not present or if the version of the file is not 5.1.2600.6171 or newer...

Of course, replace [path to the downloaded file] with the path to the downloaded file.

Citations may or may not be required depending on the path. Place the x - out the citations if you use them.
