Windows Add Printer

After having a printer is installed for a long time, one day I could use my printer.  I have uninstalled & reinstalled but got the following message is displayed:

Windows can't open add printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please

Restart the spooler or restart the machine.

When I tried to do, I found that there are no spooler in my Services.  I tried to use the restore disc supplied with my notebook, but I am unable to get this process not work either.

What can I do to fix this? I am running Windows Vista Home.

Thank you in advance for your help!

trying to access a lexmark printer installed on xp based computer from a laptop running windows7 via a local network.  Although the network is configured correctly, when I run the Windows printer installation I get an error message ' Add printer.  Connect to the printer.  Windows cannot connect to the printer. • Windows can't open add printer. Impossible operation completed (error 0x000000c1)

When I try to "Add a printer" in the Panel in Windows 7, I have "Windows can't open add printer." Impossible operation completed (error 0x000000c1). »

I uninstalled all the other printer drivers (I'm pretty sure. How can I know?).

It's an all-in-one HP Officejet Pro 8600, and I can use the scanner very well. I can't add the printer.

    Thanks for responding!

I tried several solutions and searched many forums. This has actually been a problem for some time now, and I do not know what facilities of printer driver broke.

I did put a lot of thought into it and just posted stuff to the network and printed one of my other computers. It became a problem recently, when I was too lazy to get up and turn on one of the other computers. :-) I then decided that I just needed to fix it.

I read all the posts I could find for each version of Windows treats this problem and tried each of them. I removed all the old drivers (at least I think I did. I couldn't find anybody would say, 'Here are the drivers installed.'). I downloaded the new drivers from HP. I edited the registry. I went to the folder/Windows/System32/Spool/something and deleted all. I searched all references to Lexmark (my old printer) and deleted.

In any case, last night my boot sector failed, so I ended up reinstalling Windows. I just finished now, and the printer works fine, now.

    No,

PS I'm sorry that this thread will be of no use to any person responsible research. I found a lot of them, too.

  • Windows can't open add printer: access denied

I get Windows can't open add printer: access denied.  This happens in Windows 7 SP1 64 bit system.  Could use a little help.

    Hi DickDolan,

-Connect you with an administrator account?

If you get an access denied message, this indicates that you don't have enough permissions to complete this operation.

Method 1: There is a hotfix released to resolve this issue. The same download and install. Check if it helps you to fix the problem.
Method 2: Try the steps listed here and add the printer manually and check if it helps.

    a. open Printers by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, hardware and sound and then click Printers.
    b. click Add a printer.
    (c) in the Add Printer Wizard, click Add a local printer.
    d. click on create a new port. Make sure that Local Port is selected in the list, and then click Next.
    e. in the Port name dialog box, type the name of \\computer name\printer, and then click OK.

For example: If the computer you want to connect is named Bob and the printer called HP then the path would be \\Bob\HP

    f. complete the rest of the wizard and then click Finish.

    Hi RobynGP,

This may occur if the print spooler requires other services, and these services are not running. To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

    1. in Services, right-click on print spooler and then click Properties.

    2. click the Dependencies tab. The first box list all system services that must work for the print spooler start. These are dependencies.

3 make a note of each service, click OK, and restart each service on which the print spooler is dependent, if the service is not already started. If a service is not started, right-click, click Properties, and then make sure that the startup type is automatic.

Running a win7 HP Pavillion dv 6000.  Downloaded all the updates. the printer is on a wireless network.  I can print and scan and ping from cmd line and see the printer.  Yet he does not appear in devices and printers. And when I do try and add the printer, I get the window "can't open add printer." access denied. The printer and scanner both appear in Device Manager, even if I have to open 'show hidden devices' to see, but they tell me the drivers are not installed, but they are.

I am logged in as administrator. BTW I also just installed the same printer on a new computer win7 hp desktop and and it worked fine. I can also access it from another laptop running xp. all on the same network.

A big thank you to all those who might lend a hand.  And I don't know 'if it isn't broken don't fix.'

    Hi Worktel,

    • You have a third-party security software installed on the computer?

Step 1, I suggest to access the link below and follow the steps in the article to run a Printing Troubleshooter.  http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/why-cant-I-print

    Step 2

If the printer troubleshooter help you to solve the problem and you are unable to open add a printer, you can also try to temporarily disable the security software from the computer and try to verify if can install the printer and print. If gets detected and if you can print, you can contact the manufacturer of security software and check if you need to change the settings. Later, re-enable the security software.

    Step 3

If the steps above do not help, you can try to create a new administrator account on your computer and check to see if you can install it.

To create a new user account, follow these steps:

    a. open user accounts by clicking on the button start the picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, click user accounts and family safety (or by clicking on user accounts, if you are connected to a network domain), and then clicking user accounts.

    b. click on manage another account. Administrator permission. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    c. click on create a new account.

    d. type the name you want to assign to the user account, click a type of account administrator and then click on create an account.

If it works fine in the new user account, you can access the link and follow the steps for the corrupt profile Fix:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/fix-a-corrupted-user-profile

Hope this helps and let us know the result.

  • HP 5530: Windows 10 / printer HP 5530 visible, ping-measure but "installing network without success" - workaround

Windows 10 / printer HP 5530 visible, ping-measure but "installing network without success" - workaround

    (FYI)

Problem: Windows 10 laptop (previously Windows 7) would not install HP 5530 wireless printer using the HP installation software.

(Other portable, always running Windows 7, install the same software of the printer without a problem.) All computers had until then used a HP 5510 without problem).

The printer can be "seen" by phone, via a router, in the dialogues of installation software, but 'installation network without success' has been reported: in other words, after identification and selection of the printer on the network, install "spun" for several minutes until the outage has been reported. (Installation by USB connection was successful, but still later without success in wireless network installation).

Printer able ping go laptop all the time, and test page was printed wireless through the web page HTTP printer (e.g. 192.168.1.x) parameters.

Firewall has been abandoned and latest drivers from the web site HP downloaded - however, Setup still not at the same point each time.

Solution: In Windows 10, start menu: -.

Printer Settings\Devices\Add or Scanner\Printer I want to is not listed\Add by the TCP/IP address [use the IP address identified from the display or printing settings printer] - check the box for pilot chosen automatically by Windows.

(In other words, add the printer as a printer without using HP installation software at all.)

Result: the printer is available (after restart) wireless on the laptop - seemingly normal and as a shared printer - wireless printing was possible.

    (Solved) (Apparently)

    According to the http://dfarq.homeip.net/2015/01/how-to-add-a-tcpip-printer-in-the-windows-10-technical-preview/

Good luck to anyone with a similar problem!

    I'm still working 24 hours.

Come in 64 bit location extracted folder and allow the driver to install manually. When installation is completed I went the printer properties/sharing tab and select additional drivers and checked the x 86 button. Then, said the browser in the 32-bit extracted folder.

    Hi @jhrhilltop,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support! I read your post and see that you cannot print after you install the printer on Windows 10. I will definitely do my best to help you. If this helps you to find a solution, please click on the button "Accept as Solution" down below in this message. If you want to say thanks for my effort to help, click on the 'Thumbs Up' to give me a Kudos.

It does not resemble drivers for the printer installed correctly.

Run all the updates of Windows on the computer.

I would say to uninstall the printer software. Unlock the hidden administrator account, then install the printer on this account:

Note: Do not connect the USB cable until you are prompted during the installation.
Go to your Start menu and in the box "search programs and files", type CMD.
CMD will fill as an option to search above, just right-click on it and "run as Administrator".
Once opens in CMD (command prompt), type net user administrator / Active: Yes and press ENTER.
Then, close CMD and then restart your computer.
When your computer is on the newspaper in the new account which should show. It will be called Administrator and will not have a password on it.
If your computer automatically connects to your account after reboot than to go to your Start menu, click the arrow next to 'shutdown' and choose 'change user '. Now log on to the administrator account, that we have just released.
Under the administrator account, install the printer software.
    Test the printer.
To disable the Admin account start at step 1 and type net user administrator / active: No..

    Test the printer.

Please let me know the result and if there is anything else I can help you. Thank you.
