Windows backup from Dell datasafe local upward

I recently bought a computer from Dell desktop with windows 7.  One of the first things I did was set up all my settings backup / schedule in Windows.  I used the Windows recommended default settings regarding data is saved and set my backup on external drive WD attached location.  Everything seems to work very well.

That said, this machine has also installed backup software (Dell Datasafe local backup) which does its thing and data backup in a partition on the 'C' drive to the Dell factory.  My question is if I have install Windows to backup my data on an external drive, even do I the Dell Datasafe local backup program at all?  There are fears the program is using the space on my C drive and if the C drive should plant having the backup of information about this seems little useless for me anyway.

Thank you!

Hi len62,

the short answer is Yes you do not need datasafe, there is never two much back ups. as you never know when something will go wrong. and datasafe allows you repiar your system without losing the personal data or files. If your printer dell made a backup is corrupt then you have windows upward to fall back on and the opisite also apply. • [SOLVED] How to disable Dell Datasafe Local Backup

The "Dell Datasafe Local Backup" program that appears in the status bar system on new Dell computers is not started in one of the methods traditionally used in Windows.  For this reason, the right way to prevent it from running at startup is not known, and most of the advice I found on the Internet suggests to uninstall the program completely, either intentionally it paralyzes by moving, deleting, or renaming one or the other files or folders it uses.  Instead, the right way to turn it off is to turn the "SoftThinks Agent Service" using the services Control Panel - specifically, by changing the startup type for this service of "Automatic" (delayed start) on "manual".  I'm posting this info here in the hope that other people will benefit from this information, and to stop the proliferation of bad advice such as what I found by searching for my solution.

Your solution is much appreciated.  I do not use the Dell DataSafe local backup, and it seemed to bog down the boot process.  Thank you.

Please note: Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0 is not offered through my Dell downloads. and it's not offered on the normal drivers and updates web page. Thank you.

I just finished a "chat" with Dell technical support, and I got my answer:

As I suspected, Dell licenses this software (possibly from Symantec) and Dell license does not allow to offer the software separately from the download of the factory. Therefore, if DataSafe Local Backup not shipped with your computer, you may not get it.

The version of DataSafe Local Backup included with the download of the factory is fundamental; There are two additional versions: Pro and RAID1. Neither one is free, but you might be able to buy from Dell.

  • test the recovery of Dell DataSafe Local Backup

    Hello

I searched Dell support forum, but only found audio and video material.  Weird, maybe it's me.
So I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong forum.

I have a Dell desktop computer.  I used Dell DataSafe Local Backup to create recovery content on USB flash drive.  The system came with the operating system on a DVD.  So I rely on this backup software.

I had to test the USB recovery on a virtual machine.

So, I tested the USB recovery in a virtual machine.  And, in the virtual machine it Dell DataSafe Local Backup put my recovery on drive E and I can't start.  Screenshot below.

I don't know what to do to complete the Dell DataSafe Local Backup test to confirm if it works or not.

If you can help I will appreciate it.

    Thank you.

    Hi Nohellphiccup,

Dell has replaced this utility with Dell backup and restore (DBAR). My suggestion would be to use it to create your recovery media.

  • Limit on recovery with Dell DataSafe Local disks

Is there a limit on the number of sets of recovery disks that I can do with the software Dell DataSafe Local provided on the Inspiron 17R we come to buy.   I did a set when the machine was first started.   After you install Norton Antivirus, MS Office and other software, I decided that a 2nd copy of recovery disks would be desirable, because no support Windows 7 installation is provided by Dell.

    Hi SCMBob1,

So there is no limit on how many times you can create recovery media. For example, you can create multiple copies of recovery media. However, the recovery media is created on a recovery partition and it does not matter if you create media recovery before or after the installation of the software. If you use the recovery media to restore your computer, it will restore the computer as long as you plant, and you need to reinstall the software.

    I hope this helps.

  • Microsoft Windows error message: "Dell DataSafe 2.0 has stopped working".

On my new laptop purchased recently, I get an error message from Microsoft Windows: "Dell DataSafe 2.0 has stopped working.  A problem caused the blocking of the program works correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. "I then select the" close program"button to close the message.  But, no info additional re: a solution is always provided and within a few seconds the error message recurs, repeatedly.  It's maddening, it goes without saying.  My DataSafe account is current and operational.  I can't find any info on the site of Dell re support: this error, probably because it's a message of Windows...?

    But it's a Dell software!

  • Re-install Windows 7 from Dell reinstallation DVD fails with "cannot configure Windows for your hardware.

I have to do a ground up to Windows 7, re - install media re-installing Win7 provided, due to the failure of the hard drive (so no available recovery partition).  The machine is a XPS 9000 (circa 2010).   The first phase (partitioning, file copy and extraction) works very well.  However, when I restart in Windows for the first time since the hard drive, I get a message that Windows install can not configure Windows to my hardware.  The only option is to recognize and to restart (which gives the same message).  Subsequent reboots just to say that the Windows installation cannot be completed and restart to install Windows.

Clues to this topic?  I have no new hardware in the machine which would be incompatible with this disc to re - install (admittedly old and probably non - SP1).  I wonder if the drive is missing in fact support that they put in the installation image factory.  My next step is to get a Dutch Win 7 installation disc (probably with SP1) to see if it works.  Other thoughts?

Belarc Advisor only gives you the product key of the registry which, for installation OEM Dell will be a SLP key. This will be different from the key on the COA and can be activated manually by entering it during installation.

The key on the certificate of authenticity can be introduced during the installation and this activation requires a call to Microsoft.

Key/OEM SLP activation can be applied to a retail facility without a product key by using the program and cert ABR files which I saved for installs with the Dell reinstallation DVD:

  • Reinstall Windows 8 on Dell Ispiron 2330 (have no recovery disc ((())

Hello. I have the same problem like these:

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/software-OS/f/4677/t/19476372.aspx and http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/4677/p/19502094/20346867.aspx

A few weeks ago, I bought a Dell Inspiron 2330 with earn 8. But I don't like win8 and so immediately delete and installed win 7. During the installation win7, I saw 5 partitions on the hard drive. If I understand correctly this is the recovery with native partitions Dell win 8. Win 7 has been installed on a primary partition after formatting. After a while, I needed to come back to win 8, but unfortunately I did not create any disk recovery, and it is not possible to select the other partition boot and recovery on F12 (as it was on my laptop) except the partition with the operating system. I don't know about this so far.

I would like to install Dell Win8 authentic yet once installed in the front, to accept the key from the bios. What can I do?

All partitions are intact. Clean install is only the primary partition... MBR is overwritten.

I tried Dell Datasafe Local, it is said that it can not be installed because my hard drive does not have the factory recovery image.

Please, help me to restore Windows 8 of Dell native return.

    Thank you.

    Best wishes.

I'm not familiar with installation on a Windows recovery partition. It's messy for me.

    There may be a solution.

1 create a floppy disk to your Windows7 PC recovery.

    2. start from the recovery disk & check if you can install the recovery image BONES [if it is].

    Otherwise, read more

You should keep the smaller partitions [around 200-300 Mb] which contain DELL Diagnostics software. It is useful for finding the faults of material. If you can't find these partitions, you should try Easeus partition Master to see if you can find any partition of Dell. You must "assign drive letter" to partitions hidden, as appropriate. If you can find the Dell [about 20 GB] partition operating system & check Dell datasafe works. If datasafe does not work for you, you must save all partitions Dell to an external drive & make a mess for later. It is useful if you find a way to recover them from the disk image. For this, you can use Acronis true image or DriveImageXML.

Another method, I suggest to you is to download the upgrade of Windows8 officially from Microsoft & use it with your key Windows8

    From here, you can download

    windows.microsoft.com/.../upgrade-product-key-only.

  • Dell DataSafe - 'Create System Recovery' does not recognize my USB flash drive

    Hello

I just set up my new laptop Inspiron and 'Dell DataSafe Local Backup Basic Edition' pops up advising me to "Create system recovery media" restore my system to its critical failure of hard disk factory settings.

It gives me the option to save this on a disk or a USB Flash drive.  I have a drive hard laptop "Western Digital My Passport Essential' that I would use for this, that's why I chose the option of USB Flash drive.  However, I get a message "no USB key not found.

Can someone tell me what I need to do to store the backup recovery system on my laptop hard drive?  (I know a recordable DVD will be probably easier, but I did not and do not want to buy a bunch of them just for that!)

    Any notice received with gratitude.

    Thank you

  • Old computer died, I try to restore my photos from a Windows backup

My old computer overheated to the point that the D: drive, where I kept my data, practically melted.  Fortunately, I'm religious about backups, so I had a store of the local computer to install a new D: drive and restored most of my data from a backup on an external hard drive.  Unfortunately, hard drives are also faulty - the store of the local computer has been able to get data out of it, but none of my photos.  I had a fairly recent backup containing all my photo files (created with Windows Backup and Restore).

I was able to find the catalog folder and restored to the default location (C:/Program Data/Adobe/Elements Organizer/catalogues).  The Organizer is this catalogue.  It contains 2 folders (BreezeData, which contains 422 files in the breeze - 1.xml format and a file named BreezeSession.dat) and (syncdb, which contains a file named .pref only).  It also contains the following files: backupCt.dat, catalog.pse9db, collstatus.dat, face.thumb.9.cache, itemData.mk4, tagstatus.dat and thumb.5.cache.  However, none of my tags appear in the Organizer.  I tried to repair the catalog, has received the message that he did nothing to fix and clicked "fix anyway", which did not improve the situation.

Is there another file I want to find and restore to make it work correctly?

I've restored some of my files real image at the same location and file structure, they were on the old computer.  However, PES 9 cannot find them.  I tried "reconnect" files and get the message that there are no files to reconnect.  If I can "import" the Organizer, I lose all my games version (and I have a lot of them).  I realize I can stack both original and edited to the same photo, but the editor does not recognize them as versions.  In addition, I lose all of my tags.

Is it possible to find photos Organizer without losing the tags and version sets?  The Organizer is the legends I posted.

I already bought 12 PES, but I thought I would more successful if I got 9 PES successfully restored, then do the upgrade.

    Any help would be appreciated.

This isn't really an answer, just an update.

I could finally solve the problem!  I uninstalled PES 9 (should I use Revo Uninstaller, but I forgot to do it, I just use the Control Panel, programs & features, uninstall a program).  Then I went in the ProgramData folder and deleted everything that seemed to relate to Adobe PSE, including the catalog folder (there was a lot of it).  I restarted the computer and re-installed PES 9 (I had already recovered all the image files by using the backup and restore).  This time, when I reconnect, all the missing files, the program itself almost found everything!  I always had some cleaning to do (mostly duplicate) and I re - transfer all the photos I have taken with my two cameras since the backup just before this disaster, but at least I have (I think) recovered the majority of photographs of 7 years.  I noticed while I was doing the cleanup that aren't all filename (I let just the IMG_ # assigned by the camera) was there, but I guess the missing numbers of file name are the photos that I have deleted or moved to a folder, which I call "Trash" for photos that will take much more time to fix that I immediately - if they can be fixed at all.

The recovered photos retain the decors of the version and the tags that have been initially assigned!

Having experienced this, I encourage everyone to back up their files regularly and remember the directory where the catalog file is stored!  If the catalog file is lost, you are toast!

If anyone has a similar problem, do not hesitate to let me know and I'll try to help with a more detailed explanation.

For what it's worth, Adobe has been of no assistance (Fortunately we were disconnected before that I gave them my credit card number for the they wanted to even talk about the problem of $39.99).  Similarly, I used successfully justanswer.com for any complicated problem where (the destroyed computer) HP or Dell (my new computer) couldn't help, but they were unable to help him with this problem.

I think I have a little more work to do, including the loading of my recent photos, but I intend to start converting the files recovered in PSE 12 soon.
