Windows cold call scam

Hi, my father received a call cold scam Windows today.  He didn't know it was a scam until the appellant began asking for passwords.  Fortunately, he then realized something was wrong and stopped the call.  However he did make a few changes to its settings notebook by the appellant of cold.  I'll watch his computer in a day or two to check it out to the wire.  It is Windows Vista.  I'll run the usual antivrus and malware checks.  Can someone advise other checks I can do?  I can't reload Windows because it's a Dell machine with pre-installed software.

Thanks in advance.

Hello

LogMeIn is a serious company that provides software to use for remote access.

Even computer makers and telecommunications companies use.

But scammers can use also.

It is NOT for lack of society.

«I thought that I have to uninstall it.»

Anti-Malware programs normally not remedy this situation that you are in.

It is not a malware infection that you deal with.

He comes to the notice if you gave them remote access.

If you gave them remote access and you do Internet banking, contact your bank, explain, and change passwords.

If you use your online credit card, cancel and get a new one issued to you.

And the only way that willl you know that you are free to them is to backup your data and do a clean install of your operating system.

You say you have a Dell.

Tips for the resettlement of Dell for the use of their recovery Partition to reinstall Vista back to factory settings.

Without registering any problem to Microsoft, there will be no calls from us.

Microsoft will never cold call users asking for personal information or gain access to your PC. As much as possible these calls should be reported to your local association of consumer protection agency.

I fear that this company cold-called my father and resumed his Pc remotely, the installed software could be dangerous.  He has paid for the product of his credit card.

    Hello

    It's a scam.

Anyone can become a Microsoft Partner, but it makes no difference if they are a partner or not, as Microsoft does not tolerate the cold - calling anyone.

Read the tips below regarding the cancellation of the credit cards and to reinstall the operating system.

Either these so-called "Microsoft" Tech companies want to sell you a worthless software, or remote access to your computer to try to steal your credit card and bank information and also achieve an identity theft on you.

You are the only person who knows if you gave them remote access.

    Unfortunately this has happened

If you gave them remote access and you do Internet banking, contact your bank, to explain, and change passwords.

If you use your online credit card, cancel and get a new one issued to you.

    Hello

Believe me, we receive dozens of these reports on a daily basis.

Go to the forum and search for following scam.

This has happened for many years. The main problem with trying to stop these scams, it's that the authors know how to stay hidden in the countries where the application of the law may be missing.

    Hello

I have a complicated program, but let me break it down to what matters.

My labVIEW (exe) application is called by the command prompt. Does some calculations based on arguments that I passed to him.

The thing that I do not quite understand, is how to export the results in the same command line that called. (Not a new window) I'm hoping to run my program in the background, and if I'm hoping to avoid something fancy and you want just the results in the same window that called it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Nyne

It is not really an easy way to do it. On Windows, you have several options:

    • Try to use the Windows API commands to the Console (never really had much luck with these).
    • Use the console .NET class (I doubt that it works).
    • Use a trick I had suggested to copy text from the console just paste text directly into the console window. Joined a VI that does this. Note that it is 8.2 so I am unable to connect the cluster of error due to a bug in 8.2.

    Hello again,

Another reason for not getting answers in due time, it's that you post in the wrong forum in "answers". This should really be posted in this forum...

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/Forum/Messenger

.. because Windows live call is part of messenger. By posting your question in the wrong forum you not reach the largest selection of possible contributors, perhaps even eliminate everyone with the appropriate knowledge.

You have already been informed of the connection of Windows live call with messenger by Srinivas KR in your original question.

In short, most of the lack of response, you have found is down to your own lack of knowledge about the best way to get results. If you want to use a new tool, it is always a good idea to do some research before you use it so that you can get the best out of it. "Answers" are your information tool and will make you much better work for you if you are reading this...

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/page/FAQ

.. .in conjunction with the link I gave in another of your questions.

    That said...

It doesn't seem like Messenger have the ability to disable this option. Editing the registry appears as a possible solution. Editing the registry when done incorrectly can have serious detrimental effects on your system. Do so at your own risk. I can say that I followed the instructions here...

    http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-remove-Windows-Live-call-entry-from-new-ShellNew-menu/

.. .and they worked on my PC.

Of course, if you do not use Messenger, you could just uninstall as advised previously by Srinivas KR.

    John Alderman

Press Ctrl-Shift-Escape and go to the Startup tab to view all the things that load at startup. One of those who is going to be the cause of this view occurs. Sometimes it's easy to sort by name, it sometimes takes a few tests to know who is who.

I keep getting windows technical support calls asking me to put my pc is a scam

Yes! They are * not * windows technical support. It's a scam and with all the names and phone numbers, one that has become very common these days. See http://www.troyhunt.com/2012/08/virus-scams-social-engineering-victims.html

In addition to their money get on your part to do anything of any value, if you let them into your computer, who knows what damage they did here or what confidential information they stole.

So if you have done so, I highly recommend that you do both of the following immediately:

1 do a clean reinstall of Windows.

    2. change all of your passwords, especially banks or other
    financial sites.

  • The Windows error log team cold call?

I was contacted by a "team of Windows error" trying to fix errors on my computer. Will it be authentic?

These scam calls are usually of a person representing Windows rather than Microsoft, but in any case, the call was nothing else than a phishing attempt! Do not give any information. Not to follow their instructions or advice and not to provide ANY information to them.

Because they use the internet lines and/or phone to complete their fraud, there may be federal agencies in your country who are interested in discovering their calls. Their report directly to the appropriate agency if you feel you can contribute to their arrest and the charges.

Microsoft do NOT pick up the phone and start dialing customers and never phones/e-mails asking for personal information or asking them to visit a web site! Please do not take into account these calls and hang up immediately.

Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently

On another note, if you have problems with your computer, please do not hesitate to post a description of the situation and the error messages you received in those forums. We would be happy to help you. (information staff unnecessary or requested !)

Microsoft has none of the unsolicited telephone calls to help you fix your computer

In this type of scam cybercriminals are calling you and claim to be of Support technique Microsoft. They offer help with your computer problems. Once scammers have earned your trust, they try to steal and damage your computer with malicious software, including viruses and spyware.

Although the law enforcement can trace phone numbers, often authors use pay telephones, disposable cell phones or stolen cellular phone numbers. Better avoid fooling themselves rather than try to repair the damage afterwards.
