A shell extension is an extensibility mechanism built into Windows - it helps developers third party to offer a feature that goes beyond what comes "in the box" with Windows. Add-ons - also offer additional features/functions.  However, the additional software is often responsible for sometimes things you encounter, unfortunately; Maybe it's because third-party developers don't test their software as completely or in configurations as much as Microsoft does / is capable of.  Malicious software may also be responsible for the instability of the program.

Windows explore appcrash wmvdecod.dll - cannot do anything, the pop up screen says explore ceased.   If I try to X out or to seek a solution, it closes and comes right off.  An endless loop.    Impossible to get in Start button or all files - mouse will not work.   The only thing I can do is to navigate in the pop-up box.

    The error indicates the wmvdecod.dll.

However, another module can be involved.

It may be useful to try to capture an image of the crash explorer.exe user mode for more information on the crash.

You can configure Windows to create dumps of user mode. First, create a System Restore Point.

If you copy and paste the following text in Notepad and save it as a .reg file, then right click on the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, when the .dmp file explorer.exe plant should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder:

    Thanks a lot guys.

    Hi PaulMazor,

Well first of all, btwapi.dll is a process no system developed by Bluetooth. If you go on your computer, try to disable Bluetooth by going to network and Internet or however your wireless interface is configured on your computer. If you don't have Bluetooth on your computer, try to uninstall it. go to start > Control Panel > programs > uninstall programs > scroll down and uninstall. My last suggesting opens upward, the Windows Task Manager (press ctrl + alt + delete and release). Go to processes and disable the application there. Other that that, I can't help you any further.
    Good luck

  • Windows Explorer APPCRASH error

I have Windows Vista Home Premium and started having a weird problem a few nights ago that left me speechless.

All of a sudden last night I got weird Windows unexpectedly message, saying it would disconnect me in less than a minute, which is made, but also to restart my machine.

When I got back to Windows after reboot I got a different error message (I didn't write it, unfortunately) and then after a minute or two the same message being disconnected, and even once, it restarts my system.

When he returned to Windows once everything seemed fine, although the sidebar, where you can put widgets never loaded. Yet, I was able to use iTunes, Firefox, etc. As soon as I opened Windows Explorer and tried to navigate to a specific folder on any of my drives (internal as well as external), however, it would crash Windows Explorer and push me to close the program or find an etc online solution. My system worked very well and all of a sudden this is happening has begun. I left my PC overnight and just rebooted for the first time, and I'm having the same problem: programs seem to work (I'm writing this in Firefox), but as soon as I want to look at any particular folder on my system, Explorer crashes.

It's just the same thing when I tried to install a current Windows Update, when I tried to install a registry cleaner, and even when I tried to empty my trash!

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

EDIT: after further analysis that I discovered that Vista logon failure mode seems to get rid of this problem. Is it possible to refine the potential causes of this problem?

    Best,

    Luis

That the file was present, and that AV scanners 12/42 to the VT file detected file as malicious or suspicious, suggests your system has active malware on this subject.

The best thing to do is to get rid of the malware first and then go ahead and restore items disabled with Autoruns.  No need to uninstall Nero, and I would hang on to the renamed.drv in a way, since it is the one piece of evidence suggesting malware. Basically, you can leave it as it is, don't forget not that it is there and then go through some hair removal techniques.  The AV software should find the file renamed.drv and delete / quarantine it.

When this problem started to happen? Have you changed the settings?

You run some of these scan to check if you have damaged files or updates. Sometimes the file or update can be fix if she isn't bad corrupt. I suggest that you back UP all your data. Here are some things you can try CHECKDISK, SFC SCAN and ChEKSUR.

  • Problems related to Windows Explorer in Vista

Since I had to do a clean install, I had problems in Windows Explorer.  Whenever I try to click with the right button on the display window elements, especially if I'm trying to delete or move, Explorer stops and restarts, making me try to redo what I was doing.  She also does it sometimes when I select the menu bar.

I ran sfc/scannow from the command prompt, and he comes back and tells me that some files were corrupted and not repaired.  I tried to look in the newspaper for the problems, but I get a window "access denied."  I run as administrator when I do that.  I used my windows disk and tried the repair function on the files of it.  That did not fix it.

The only message I could see is this message from the link to report problems in the Panel:

Any ideas on how to fix?  It becomes very irritating and makes getting whatever it is in fact a problem.

I might suggest to capture an image of user mode of the accident which has the potential to identify the cause.

You can configure Windows to create dumps of user mode. First, create a System Restore Point.

If you copy and paste the following text in Notepad and save it as a .reg file (save with the .reg extension and give it a name like explorerdump.reg) then right click on the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, when the .dmp file explorer.exe plant should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows error Reporting\LocalDumps\explorer.exe]
    "DumpFolder" = hex (2): 43, 00, 3A, 00, 5 c 00, 43, 00, 72, 00, 61, 00, 73, 00, 68, 00, 44, 00, 75,.
    00, 6 D, 00, 70, 00, 73, 00, 00, 00

After Explorer (explorer.exe) crashes, you can, and then make the .dmp file available (provide the link) via a public folder on OneDrive or similar site.

Here are a few links on the use of OneDrive (SkyDrive):

I'd say it's time to restore your computer to factory settings.  If you don't know how to do this, you must consult the manufacturer guide or the user's computer.  Be sure to back up data that you have on the computer before you do.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

This indicates to me that it is a problem with Quicktime.  But with the problem without access to office programs and Windows Explorer I can't uninstall it.  I can access the control Alt Delete Task Manager and open a number of things with the file as Regedit menu but no third-party program.  No way at the moment so I uninstall Quicktime.  An another quark which comes from what I saw on the internet that the Appwiz.cpl file is supposed to open programs and features to uninstall, but I don't have that on my computer or on one of two external hard drives that I use for backups.  What is the correct file to use?  If so, I wonder why it is not in my Windows folder, and why programs and features worked before without this file?
Also, I tried 4 different restore points but that did not help either, and repair the boot and repair of windows.  And can not access to Cmd.exe.
So would be grateful if someone could, initially, index me on the file suitable for we hope to open programs and features.  Also maybe the files to open the Start Menu folder and file to open the control panel.  And maybe another idea about this problem.  I could delete files QuickTime in Regedit?
Programs running in the background if they are started by themselves, otherwise I have no control.  Can go on the internet with the hyperlink at the bottom of the error message.
    Thanks for any help.

My computer has been started with a full desktop but immediately got the error windows explore hanging everything up.  Starts in safe mode with the same results.

Finally solved my problem, however.  As mentioned in my original post, I could open through Control Alt Delete Task Manager and using the menu option file could open Regedit.  Also, I could open a browser with hyperlink at the bottom of the error message.  And perhaps could have downloaded programs to help, except once downloaded, I would have no way to open and run with unavailable office.  But in the end, I deleted all entries in Quicktime using the search function.  Took about 4 hours. but when I am the way, the way down on the list when I deleted an entry Windows came into Shut Down mode.  And, Viola, after reboot everything was normal again based on the last restore point, that I had used.
Then, I finished uninstalling Quicktime with Revo Uninstaller.
I understand that some people out there are uncomfortable to play with the registry, but I did for many years, since 98, so for me it was no problem, so everyone is very careful and has a good understanding and concept of what they are doing.  I think it is the only solution to a problem like this with the exception of reinstaling Windows.  For me, it's a far last option.  And then if someone mess up the registry, they would have to reinstall anyway.
For anyone else read this and maybe one of the technicians can expand on this, you could possibly use a Ubunto Live Linnux DVD to open the user? file to edit the registry in this way, too.  Don't know if it works or not.  But too bad it does not a type program MS-DOS out there who would do something like this easier.  There may be but I don't see one.  And as I mentioned in the first post, repair, restoration and other repair startup options did not work.  As a suggestion, perhaps a repair feature that can capture error information, analyze the registry and fix it with the minimum participation of the user.
I write all this with other users in mind that will go looking for clues and find help very few experts who give you generic, non-specific responses.

When you open the video files that display thumbnails, the codec is used to create the thumbnail for the videos it decodes. A work around for this is to change the display of files of other tiles. You can try to reinstall your codecs or download other codecs, do a google search and download only from trusted sites. You might have added new video file formats, and you need the codec for this video format.

run sfc/scannow, already have a huge newspaper that one also.

    Hi Lacy,

    Image path: C:\Users\Lacy Riddle\AppData\Roaming\ AC34E.tmp
    Image name: C34E.tmp
    Timestamp: Wed Jul 10 17:41:54 2009

Every accident is caused by such .tmp files. This isn't normal behavior. I see that you have this file on your PC:

    Image path: C:\Windows\System32\compstui32.dll
    Image name: compstui32.dll
    Timestamp: Sun Mar 01 06:04:56 2009

what I found in the WWW, it is a virus/trojan.

So install an AntiVirus (such as Microsoft Security Essentials) tool and do a scan in depth.

Also run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php) to search for malware.

  • Vista - Windows Explorer repeated crashes / Invisible Notification icons

    Hi all

First of all, thank you in advance for reading my problem and for any help that anyone can provide.

My computer has been recently infected with Antimalware Doctor, a fake antivirus program type you want to send money to "fix" everything what he reported. I went to the record of his program and deleted directly. After that, Windows Explorer seems to crash everytime I'm wriggling on the State of Notification bar icons. It would be close all my files, I was working on that. I found a work around that puts each folder in a separate task, so it's a minor relief.

I did a full scan with Norton 360 and returned the next day. Things seem to be fine, until an hour later, the Explorer has crashed again. I noticed that it seems to hang exactly one hour after it starts. Accidents have occurred at 19:59, 59:08 and 09:59, a bit like clock work. Even with no opening of files. I ran the Malwarebyte Anti-Malware and CC Cleaner several times. Each has found and "corrected" several errors, some of the fake antivirus. Explorer will crash an hour later still.

Another symptom that may or may not be related, is that the Notification tray icons are invisible. I can hover over where they should be, get a ToolTip and use them normally, but they are simply not listed.

Here are the details of the problem of my last fall (just before I started this post.)

I just restart explorer.exe after pasting this info, and the status bar icons are still visible. I'll wait to see if the program crashes again.

    My system specs are:

    Windows Vista Edition Home Premium

    Service Pack 2

    ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

    ASUS CG5290

    Intel Core i7 CPU 920 @2. 67 GHz 2.67 GHz

    9,00 GB of Ram

    64-bit operating system

Once again, thank you for any help that can be provided.

Only let 1RAM installed module and check the RAM with memtest86 + to see who is broken. "A programmer is just a tool that converts the caffeine in code" Deputy CLIP - http://www.winvistaside.de/

  • Can't open my pictures folder - message "windows Explorer has stopped working"!

I have a Toshiba Satellite A305 (Harman/Kardon) with Vista Home Premium, 32-bit operating system.  For about a week now, I can not access my photos folder.  When I try to open I get a message telling me that Windows Explorer has stopped working, then another telling me to restart.
I ran a full scan with my Norton program but no virus found.  Following the suggestions made on this forum, I have disabled all non-Microsoft software but still getting the same message.  Run the File System Check and after that 'complete 100% verification' I received a message that: "Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to solve some of them."
What does that mean?  How can I find out what files are corrupt? How can I fix it?

He also said that the details are included in the CBS.log windir\logs\cbs\cbs.log journal
I tried to get more details of cbs.log (according to the directions on this site), but when I type the command I am told to type, nothing happens.
I don't know what else to try.  Help!
