WINDOWS FILE TRANSFER

I am trying to transfer files from a disk hard using windows 7 32-bit to a new hard disk using windows 7 64 bit. So I will be getting rid of the 32-bit disk when I finished, I use the same computer for both drives. My external hard drive is 20 GB. My total for all necessary to transfer files is 24 GB. When you run windows transfer, there is an option to disable some of the user accounts. Is it possible to run windows transfer on behalf of a user to 17 GB, by unchecking the other accounts, transfer the account to the new hard drive by using the external drive, delete files on the hard disk and then running windows transfer to other user accounts that is 7 GB?

Thank you

Steve

Your plan might work...

Why not plug the two drives, boot to Windows 7 32-bit and export data (using Windows Easy Transfer, I guess?) in a folder on the disc of Windows 7 64-bit.  Start on Windows 7 64 bit player and import it and then delete the folder you exported / imported to free space.  Then you can manually transfer all files Windows Easy Transfer failed (probably more than you think.)

In addition, you should get a few disk large enough to back up your data in its entirety "outside the system" as soon as POSSIBLE.  After all, if you don't and something goes wrong...

    Hello

I have an old laptop that just died. It was running Windows 8 Ultimate 32 bit. I would like to transfer my files to my new laptop running Windows 8 64-bit. Can I connect my old external hdd to a usb port and transfer my data (of course I don't copy programs) or is it a procedure much more complex that involves several steps. I think that I would have saved everything on Skydrive, but I never finished to do.

Thank you very much for your help.

If the hard disk is functional and can be connected to the newer system (even through a USB adapter)-you should be able to connect to what and retrieve your files on it.  Might have to take possession/give yourself permissions - Total but as long you do not encrypt anything - it is very easy.

When you use the Windows easy transfer cable to transfer the data that the data is copied. So you copy the data on the old computer also.

  • Can I remove the file 'SaveData.mig' after I run Windows Easy Transfer?

Can I remove the file 'SaveData.mig' after I run Windows Easy Transfer?

I used easy transfer to move files from an old computer to my new about 12 months ago. The SaveData.mig file takes 22 GB of space on the new computer. I would like to remove it but I don't know if it will mess up all my files that have been transferred to my new computer. Anyone know if I can delete this file in order to free up space? Thank you

I agree with Mohdrafi - you can remove safely; However, you should have a more recent backup of your current files just to be on the right side (image FULL weekly backup and an incremental backup every day for an external HARD drive - I've seen too many people get burned when their drive hard breaks down or something worse and then they lose all their precious documents (, photos, audio and other files).  There ARE recovery procedures, but they don't always work, and they don't always get everything (especially if you expect to solve the problem or continue to use the PC in the meantime)- and depending on your version of Vista.  Delete this file will NOT affect the files and settings that you restored using the process.  Could have deleted it hours after that the process has been done (once you have a good backup) and it would have been very well then.  If you have a good backup, I can see no reason whatsoever to keep the file.

If the normal delete function in Vista doesn't work, try using one of the following free products to remove the file.  Unlocker to: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml or file Assassin http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php (with or without forcing the deletion: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/27/force-delete-cannot-delete-locked-or-in-used-files-or-folders-with-fileassassin/). These programs often work when normal functions remove Vista not work correctly.

Congratulations to the use of Easy Transfer - this is a pretty cool tool isn't it?  Not sure how many threads that we have here people with issues or recoving given him--I saw a lot.  It seems easy on the surface, but when it doesn't work it can become quite complex and aggravating (and I know people who have unfortunately never were able to retrieve their data and settings no matter what we tried).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Windows Easy Transfer can only transfer files

I created an easy transfer file in my previous installation of Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. After formatting and installing Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit even once, I got the following error:

"Windows Easy Transfer can only transfer files

Your easy transfer file was created on a computer that is running a different language than this computer. Windows Easy Transfer only transfers files between computers with different languages. Settings will not be transferred. »

The problem is that the two facilities were in English...

  • Password block Windows Easy Transfer - cannot open Windows XP easy transfer file

I did a uprade from my PC from windows XP to windows 7. However, before doing so, I used windows easy transfer to copy my files to a later transfer. The problem is, in the process, that I did not use a password. Now, I can't open .mig files transfer easily created on the USB external drive. I had seen several old posts on this same issue. Some have recommended trying to copy. The problem is that I have more access to the old XP files since the machine is now windows 7.
Is there anyway to pass the fast password in transfer windows easy when trying to backup files without a valid password (especially since I have not created a).

The Windows.old folder has two objectives:
    (1) can be used to uninstall Windows 7 and return your PC to the previous version of Windows.
    (2) contains a backup of all your files of data, documents, photos, Etc. from the previous version of Windows.

Note: Change the Windows Explorer option to see the Windows.old folder:
Click on start and enter in the box "Search": "hidden" (without the quotes)
Click on the "Show the hidden files and folders" option at the top of the list.
    In the "Folder Options" window
Click the 'view' if it is not already selected.
In the list "Advanced settings" locate "hidden files and folders".
Now click 'show files and folders '.
    Then, disable the following:
"Hide empty drives in the computer folder.
"Hide the extensions of the file types that you want to know."
    "Hide protected operating system files"

Click on the "Apply" button and the OK"" button.

  • Windows easy transfer. I can't use transfer to move files to the new computer

I used windows easy transfer to back up my files to an external hard drive before doing a clean install of windows 7, XP.

I am unable to find any "windows easy transfer" files on the hard drive for transfer to the new computer.

ALL the files from my old computer are there and I am able to access it from the external hard drive.

Please tell me there is an easy way to transfer files and I don't have to do it manually.

What is the error message when you try to restore files in Windows 7?

Also, did you really use the Windows Easy Transfer Wizard to back up your files or did you use the built in the files and Settings Transfer wizard in Windows XP? If you used the files and Settings Transfer Wizard, that won't work no.

You must install Windows Easy Transfer on Windows XP, save the files as one. MIG file on your external drive, restore it on the Windows 7 computer. See for instructions:

  • Changing to a new computer from vista to windows 7. My file transfer and deletion of personal information, including files from my old computer for security reasons

I'm about to change my old computer (windows vista) to a new all-in - one computer that has windows 7. Am I right in thinking that I can transfer my files incl. photos to an external hard drive and then plug that to my new download or is it more than that. Also, I have macafee protection on my old computer and don't know how to transfer to my new one cos I don't think that's it (we bought it second hand on ebay), and this should be done first.

Finally how to make sure that none of my personal information is nowhere on my old for security reasons?

I would appreciate any advice, thanks

    Several options;

    (1) simple, connect you external hard drive copy data

Or use the backup software which may be preinstalled on the outside

    (2) for easy transfer Windows http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-GB/Windows7/Products/features/Windows-Easy-Transfer

    Old PC;

The windows recovery discs to retrieve destructively to factory settings

    McAfee

Uninstall on the old PC to the new PC, uninstall any trial version pre-installed anti-virus, reboot, reinstall McAfee from original installation media using your key

    New PC

Make sure that it has been reset to the State of the plant, before you do something with it, because you don't know what the previous user used during or installed on it.

  • Network file transfer speed in windows 7

    I have a working network.

Files shared in a warehouse are used by other customers. (file size is 1 GB and more)

Some customers use windows XP and some customers use windows XP.

My operating system file server is windows server 2008 and I use file sharing.

The use of files shared in windows XP (software import and editting) has no problem, but in the same use in windows 7, it is very slow.

File transfer speed is slow and the access to the files in the software takes a long time.

Example: In windows XP, a 12 GB file is imported into edius pro in a second, but same file in windows 7 takes 65 seconds to import

What security options are why, or how I can solve it?

    Hello

Which version of Win 7, you use in client side, he logged in as a domain for win 2008 Server.
I hope that the system win 7 is not a task force. Home network with one or more computers running Windows 7 can experience slow file transfer speeds, specifically during the transfer of files with other computers running different operating systems,

Turn off and disable the Compression feature differential to remove Windows 7 can be a solution to slow copying files, file move or delete the file bug.

    • Click the Windows 7 start button, then go to control panel.
    • Click on the link programs.
    • In programs & features section, select features Windows activate or disable the link.
    • Uncheck the remote differential Compression checkbox.
    • Click OK.
    • Wait for the feature to be disabled.
    • Once completed, restart the computer.
