Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer, any attached device

an unexpected i/o error has occurred

Hi slevmd,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers community.
a. Since when are you facing this problem?
b. did you change to your computer recently?

Remove all external devices one by one and restart once unplug each device connected to your computer, in order to check which device is causing the problem.

Try to start in safe mode, check if the problem persists and takes us back to the response status.

Method 1;

To use the safe mode option, follow these steps:

1. reboot your computer and start pressing F8 on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured to start to multiple operating systems, you can press the F8 key when the Boot Menu appears.
2. use the arrows to choose appears in the Advanced Options in Windows Safe Mode menu and press ENTER.

Method 2: You can also clean boot Hardware

Follow the steps below to perform the clean boot material

1. right click on my computer-> properties
2 Hardware tab Device Manager->
3. right click on the sound card, video card, NIC, one by one, and then click on turn off
4 restart the computer.  If the problem is resolved, you can then enable the devices one by one to find the exact mechanism causing the problem

After you find the device that causes the problem you can solve by installing the latest driver or replacement of the unit.

Hope this information is useful.
Let me know if it worked.

Thank you, and in what concerns:

    Hello

    The error - an unexpected i/o error has occurred, status: (0Xc00000e9) is a material error in the BIOS of your computer.

    Basically, it's to tell you that the computer is not able to communicate effectively with the hard drive.

    Try the Startup Repair.  Startup Repair is designed to prevent a reinstall tedious to diagnose and repair problems that prevent Windows startup.

    To run the Startup Repair tool, see the links below for more details:

    I also suggest you to update the BIOS. Update the BIOS, contact the manufacturer of the system!

  • Pavilion g6: Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer

    So my computer does not start in Windows, citing the above error. Windows said that there was an unexpected i/o error. I can't start in safe mode either.

    I downloaded essentials easy recovery and it crashes when trying to rebuild the MBR.

    Ive been reading a lot on part of rewriting the MBR virus online or change the BIOS SATA drive to something else (something in this sense, sorry I'm not a technical expert). Virus theory is logical that my anti virus showed that he blocked an attack on the eve of what has past.

    I tried many things to get to the bottom of the present and the simplest solution that seems to work for many people seems to evolve the SATA autour setting, but it looks like this is not possible on this model?

    I am open to any advice received.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

    Until I round to try it, I tried another solution that worked perfectly.

    As suspects, something had gone wrong with the Windows bootloader, so I completely removed and rebuilt thanks to the command prompt.  Everything works as before.

    I put this message here in case someone should account for similar symptoms and it might give them an idea how fix their.

  • Satellite L305D-S5892 - Windows has encountered a problem

    Hello

    I have an I have a Toshiba-L305D-S5892
    With Vista Home Prem 32

    I have a few problems and am currently blocked.

    Each problem below, is a problem that I met after taking a few steps.

    * The 1st problem *.

    A few hours ago my screen was frozen just after I tried to install this codec from microsoft, so the only option I had was to do a hard reset.
    When my computer back on, I received this message:

    Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.

    This error may be cause of disconnect a device removable storage such as an usb external drive while the appliance is in use or by defective as a hard disk hardware or the CD-ROM drive which is a failure. Make sure that all removable storage is properly connected, and then restart your computer.

    If you continue to receive this error message, contact the manufacturer of the equipment.

    File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe

    Status: 0xc00000e9

    Info: An unexpected I / 0 error has occurred.

    I didn't have any usb device or removable in media.
    I can only access my utility series at the beginning, which is this menu: hand-Advanced-display-security-Boot - out

    * 2nd problem *.

    I opened my laptop and released the CD / DVD + RW, he started upward and now I get this message:

    For Realtek RTL8101E/8102E PCI - E Ethernet Controller v1.07

    PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable.

    PXE - M0F: Exit PXE ROM.

    No boot device - insert boot disk and press any key

    * 3rd problem *.

    I downloaded the NEOSMART repair Cd.

    Once I'm in the System Recovery Options, it tells me to select an operating system. However it has not traded. If I press drivers to load, then a message tells me to insert the media, and then select drivers. I almost 'ok', and then am taken to explore, when there are a few system files and files (all empty)?

    I'm confused... any help?

    Hello

    For me, it looks like a problem with the system eventually installed the HDD failures.
    Why?

    Due to the issue described in point 2.
    PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable error is displayed because the phone didn t find the installed operating system and try to boot from LAN.
    This happens especially if the HARD drive was not recognized by the BIOS.

    My recommendation;
    Access the BIOS and check if the HARD drive is listed there.
    If this isn't the case, then you will need to replace the HARD drive and reinstall the operating system.

    If the HARD drive is listed in the BIOS, then take a recovery disk and try to reinstall the OS again.
    If you have no recovery disc, then you can order it here.

  • Windows has encountered a problem, try to copy a file... why?

    Windows has encountered a problem, try to copy a file... why?  MikeW

    There are many possible reasons.  What you have tried to do over time?  Is there additional information printed with this message?  A few possible reasons come to mind:

    • The file was opened exclusively by the operating system or another program
    • The full path to the file from the C:\... contain more than 256 characters
    • Permissions problem: you have read permissions for the file or permission in writing to the destination
    • The file entry or damaged directory disk sector. (Run the command chkdsk with the /R option to this address)
    • The file is larger than 4 GB and you try to copy it to a disk formatted with a FAT file system.

    I'm sure that there are more reasons, but need more information.

    There are two approaches you can take.

    One solution: you can copy files into smaller "chunks" until you identify the file that causes the error, and then try to find out what is the problem with this file.

    Another solution is to download the program "Robust copy" (Robocopy) to Microsoft and it allows to copy your files.  You download and install in the Windows 2003 Resource Kit (works fine on XP).

    Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit:
    <>http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=17657 >

    Once installed, you can open a command prompt window (start-> Run-> "cmd") and enter the command:
    Robocopy "C:\photos" 'E:\photos' /R:5 / s
    Where "C:\photos" will be replaced by the source directory, and the 'E:\photos' is the destination directory.  the "/ S" option will copy the subdirectories and the R:5 option retries 5 times on error before moving on to the next file.  Errors should be displayed on the screen and I found errors of command line to be more descriptive than GUI errors.  There are a lot more options, but this should help you get started.

    JW
