Windows Live Essentials installation ends at 3% and stops on Windows 8

I get as far as "complete installation 3%" and then it stops. What I'm doing wrong or not done?

Original title: installation of Windows Live Essentials

Hi John,.

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern about the installation of Windows Live Essentials on your device. We will help you with this problem.

Let us know the following to help you better with this issue:

  1. What is the full error message / error code of this issue?
  2. Have you installed any software of third-party anti-virus on your device?
  3. This problem is limited only with Windows Live essentials?

Try the TROUBLESHOOTING steps below and check if it helps.

Step 1: Check if the Windows Installer service is started and set to manual.

Follow the steps for the same:

  1. Press Windows + R keyboard keys to open run command.
  2. Type services.msc in the search box and press enter.
  3. Locate the Windows Installer service
  4. Make sure that the Startup type is Manual.

Steps to set the Automatic services

  1. Right-click on the service
  2. If the service is stopped and then start the service
  3. Select Properties
  4. And from the Start, type select Manual.

Step 2: Disable the third-party antivirus software.

NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

If the problem persists, I suggest you to uninstall the third-party antivirus software.
