Windows Media Center is deleted in Windows 8?

Well, I don't know if the MS Staff is allowed to answer this yet... but I saw a lot of posts on Media Center not being is not in Windows 8? It seems like it would be to get rid of a major feature, so I come here to get an answer if possible. Maybe it will be available in the App Store if it is not preinstalled?

Thank you!

Hello

As Windows 8 operating system is still not released any view on its characteristics is therefore some speculation. I suggest you wait that the official product release for more information about the features that would be included.

Hello.   We had a problem with Windows media center after the SP2 update.   We tried a few workaround solutions, and now we get the following error: "C:/windows/system32/wmp.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.  Try to install the program by using the original installation media or contact system support".  I was unable to find a download for Windows media center in Vista.  Can you help me?

    Hi EricLarson_CL,

Method 1: Perform the analysis of System File Checker (SFC) that might help you resolve the issue.

To determine if the problem you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool analyzes the system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.

To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start and type cmd in the box start the search.
    2. right click on cmd in the list programs and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue
    3. at the command prompt, the following line, and then press ENTER:
    sfc/scannow

Follow the instructions in the link below for more information on scan SFC.

Method 2: You can turn off & on Windows Media Center in Windows Feature & check if the problem persists.
Turn on or off Windows features

Method 3: Try to rebuild the Media Center data store and check if it helps:
    (a) exit any running instance of Windows Media Center.
    (b) delete the mediaCenterDataStore.db file. By default, this file is located in the following location:
    %SystemDrive%\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\mediaCenterDataStore.DB
To remove the file, follow these steps:
    (a) click Start and then click on run
    (b) in the Open box, type run and then click OK
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.
    (c) in the Open box, type %systemdrive%\programdata\microsoft\ehome and then click OK.
    (d) in the details pane, right-click right mediacenterdatastore.db and then click on remove.
    (e) click Yes to confirm that you want to move the Mediacenterdatastore.db file to the trash.
    Start Windows Media Center

Note: You may not be able to download Windows Media Center for vista, but it is integrated with the operating system.
    Hope this information is useful.

  • How to delete many files duplicate music in Windows Media Center

How to remove several duplicate files Windows Media Center music

I am running Windows 7 64 bit with Windows Media Center and I have a 2 TB external drive, I keep all my multimedia (music/movies) and I just realized that my entire music library has been duplicated several times that I now have 4-5 copies of each music file in my library on my external hard drive. It is not duplicate my movies (thank God!) Why is this happening? How can I get rid of the duplicates? and how can I prevent this from happening in the future?

You can also see duplicates in Windows Media Player library?

Because Media Center uses the same library as WMP, I suggest that you try to reset the media library of WMP. Note firstly reset the library will make you lose all play counts and ratings too. Then, follow these steps:

    -Restart the PC.
-Click Start, type services.msc in the search field and press ENTER. In Services, locate the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service. If its status is started, double-click on the service and click on stop.
-Click Start, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft in the search field and press ENTER. This folder opens in Windows Explorer.
-In this folder, delete the folder Media Player. If you do not see the folder, then it is probably hidden. Set Explorer to view the hidden files and folders and show protected system files.
-Launch WMP, your library will have been reset and will be rebuilt. Check if the duplicates have been fixed.

WMC uses the same library of WMP. If you need to restore library WMP to solve the problem.

WMC stores the file in the Public TV folder saved on your hard drive by default, it is located at C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV.

Check how much space is there.

You could try to control Windows Media Center via Control Panel / programs and features / Turn Windows Features on or off / multimedia / Windows Media Center, make sure that it is checked.

System Restore will not uninstall or reinstall your entire operating system, take your machine over time until the selected restore point (you choose) and load Windows from this date and time.  Programs and updates that have been installed since that date and time are no longer available and need to be reinstalled.  System Restore will also leave you a "Undo" restore point which allows you to return to the present before the start of any restoration.  It also gives you an option to check what effect the return to a previous era will have on your program installed, etc..  It does not affect your personal data, applies only the settings, system files, programs, drivers, and updates.

  • Windows 7 Media Center: unable to delete or find a recorded TV listed under TV show

I have a TV show listed under my media center that I'm unable to delete, view, or do much of anything with. When I try to play the file, the blue circle appears and nothing happens. If I choose to delete, Media Center a Roadrunner (the typical who recognizes that I have selected a command), but nothing happens - the TV show is not deleted, and I get no error.

There was a previous answer where the presented solution was to remove all the folders in the library of TV. I am not able to do that. When I go into Settings-Tasks-Media Libraries-Recorded TV, I can choose to add files to the library, but I can't select to delete files from the library. There is only one location listed under TV saved in my music library, which is T:\recorded tv. I formatted the disc (a quick format and a full format), but the stray TV show is always listed. I searched my other readers for this show, but can't find anything.

    Help, please!

    ~ Bill

Change the registered default location to another drive. This will be your new recorded tv folder. Once done remove the other oldest. A few records and make sure that it works.
Reboot your system and now again trying to delete this show wandering.

    Hello

    Method 1:

I would suggest you click on the link provided below, proceed and check if it helps.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/972496

    Method 2:

You can also face this problem if your Windows Media Player database is damaged, you can delete the database of Windows Media Player. To do this, follow these steps:

    (a) output Windows Media Player.

    (b) click Start, run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.

(c), select all the files in the folder and then click on Delete on the file menu.

Note: you don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    (d) restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

If the above does not solve your problem then clear cache of database of Windows Media Player files. To do this, follow these steps:

    (a) output Windows Media Player.

  • What do you do when everty time you access something need you for windows media center

It started with microsoft. Whenever I tried to access my Microsoft pages it took me to windows media center. Now, everything is in the Center. The only way I can get online is through a back door. I tried to change the default values for the Center, but the only default parameters listed are the original ones.
Windows Media Center has taken control of my computer. Help!

From what you have stated above, I think that the file association for LNK files has been given misdirection to the Media Center. I've seen this happen when opening a program via a shortcut (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with. After selecting the Windows Media Center (or another program) via the Select a program from a list of programs installedand check always use the selected program to open this type of file (circled in red below), the document or program referenced by the shortcut of origin opens in Windows Media Center as it should.

The problem is that now all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) on the desktop or in the browser will want to be opened by Windows Media Center and Windows Media Center icon to view the shortcut no matter what shortcut was originally intentioned to open. This is known as a file association and the default icon. The same condition can occur if you have performed these actions 'Open with' on one. JPG or even a. EXE, but the. LNK explanation is much more likely for the items on the desktop.

The good news is that a small free utility was written to cancel the. LNK file association was created. There is also a registry hack to achieve, but I recommend the utility unAssoc for its ease of use. I used to send people on another site to download this utility, but this site has become confused with all the ads and fake download links. I put a copy on by SkyDrive own here.

Just download, then use the utility to unassociate the. LNK files for the user or globally delete the file type and let windows rebuild a new default.
