Windows media player looks like it works but no sound? not cut
can't play a wav file
Just for the bowl to the possible confusion, I guess you know WMP & the system volume controls are independent. Volume of inhibition is in cut WMP [and volume level setting is a combination [for example 50% in each 25% of the overall volume results].
You probably knew this, but I think it is worth the visit.

Windows Media Player 12 has stopped working.
Windows Media Player 12 has stopped working. When I select an audio track and click on the play button, a red X appears next to the title in the playlist. I uninstalled and reinstalled the player, but also update the drivers. Checking the properties through the device manager says that the device is working properly, but this clearly isn't. Any suggestions on how to solve this problem would be welcome. As a matter of interest, itunes has stopped working at the same time. And audio tracks play fine in RealPlayer.
Thanks in advanceHello
Step 1: Launch the Media Player Troubleshooter
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-Windows-Media-Player-settings-Troubleshooter
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-Windows-Media-Player-library-Troubleshooter
Step 2: Rebuild the Media player library
a. exit Windows Media Player.
b. Click Start, run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player and then click OK.
c. Select all files in the folder and then click on Delete on the file menu.
d. Note you don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.
e. restart Windows Media Player.
Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.
Step 3: If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:
a. exit Windows Media Player.
b. Click Start, click Run, type % LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft and then click OK.
c. Select the Media Player folder, and then click on Delete on the file menu.
d. restart Windows Media Player.

Windows media player gets stuck in video but audio continues
The video freezes randomly and sometimes the program stops responding for a few seconds. For some reason any audio works fine however. I've had these files on my computer for awhile now and they never have it so far.
Hi Shelby Reyes,
Welcome to the Microsoft community. I understand that windows media player gets stuck in video but audio continues very well. I'll help you with this problem.
1. What is the brand and model of the computer?
2. have you made changes on the computer recently?
3. what security software is installed on the computer?
4. how much free space is available on the hard disk?
Method 1.
Try to use the Troubleshoot utility to see if that solves the problem.
a. open the troubleshooting Windows Media Player settings Troubleshooter by clicking the Start button, then Control Panel.
(b) in the search box, type "Troubleshooting" and then click Troubleshooting.
c. click on show alland then click the Windows Media Player settings.
Method 2.
A clean boot to test if any element of service or third party application startup is causing this issue.
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Note: Once you have finished troubleshooting, follow step 3 in the article to start on normal startup.
Method 3.
You can update the video card driver and check.
Update drivers: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Update-drivers-recommended-links
Method 4.
I suggest that you can exercise SFC scan and check if that helps. The SFC/SCANNOW command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.
For more information how to make SFC / scan, please follow this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
I hope this helps.

Hi I downloaded audio files that you want to create a playlist on windows media player to download to my mp3 player so I can be more mobile to study. When I tried to play on windows media player I get error msg-file type is not supported or the codec is not compatible with the player. They are .zip files. inside are the mp3 files that I need to listen to. can someone help me.
Hello
You need to open ZIP files, which are compressed to make it smaller, then use the content
in the application appropriate - so if the audio or video content can use WMP.Compress and uncompress files (zip files)

with more features (and works with different types of compressed files).7ZIP - free

How can I fix the "drag and drop" feature in Windows 7? It used to work, but now does not work, for no apparent reason!
What happens when you try? Make sure you drag the icon image and not the text of the name.
If it still doesn't work there are some registry changes that can try to alleviate the problem. But because the changes to the registry are tedious and dangerous, I recommend to leave the system to repair it for you. Here's how:- Type of restore in the search box of the start menu to find and open to restore system files and settings from a restore point.
- Click Next, choose a date before the problem started, then click Next once more.
- This process only takes around 2 minutes and only restores your system files/settings: it will not affect any of your files, documents, photos, emails, or anything else.
If the system restore does not resolve the problem try this to replace missing or corrupted system files. Here's how:- Type cmd into the start menu search box, and then press Ctrl-Shift-Enter to launch as administrator.
- At the command prompt to start the File System Check, type sfc/scannow .
